The Return Of The Exiled Villain

Slowly, time moved forward.

The final hours of the Grand Dominion Siege ticked away without further major confrontation.

With Clementine already holding an overwhelming lead in tokens and the main stronghold still under Gray’s control, neither Gloria Academy nor Dragon Slaying Academy attempted another large-scale assault.

The remaining students focused on survival and minor token collection, fully aware that challenging the black-robed figure sitting calmly under a tree would be suicide.

When the limit finally expired, a deep, resonant chime echoed across the entire floating island.

RIINGGGGGGGGGGGGG!

The trial was officially over.

In the next instant, every remaining participant was enveloped in soft white light and teleported out of the battlefield.

The massive projection screens in the grand viewing hall shifted, displaying the returning students as they reappeared on the central arena platform.

The referee floated high above the stage, staff raised, his amplified voice booming with pure excitement.

”The third trial of the Inter-Academy Exchange, the Grand Dominion Siege, has been officially concluded!”

The crowd, which had been buzzing with residual tension, fell into an expectant hush.

The referee’s voice rose even higher.

”Now, the final rankings!”

A large ranking board materialized in the air above the arena, glowing with golden light as the names of the academies appeared one by one.

”In first place, with an overwhelming token count and continuous control of the main stronghold, Clementine’s Sword & Magic Academy!”

The hall erupted.

Cheers, applause, and shouts of disbelief mixed together in a deafening wave.

Students from Clementine who had been eliminated earlier jumped to their feet in the spectator stands, screaming with joy.

The few surviving members standing on the platform, Seraph and the two remaining girls, looked almost dazed as the reality of the result settled over them.

The referee continued without pause.

”In second place, Gloria Academy!”

More applause followed, though it was noticeably more restrained. Gloria’s students stood with complicated expressions.

They had fought hard, coordinated well, and even temporarily seized secondary strongholds, yet they had still fallen short.

”And the academy eliminated from this year’s Inter-Academy Exchange... Dragon Slaying Academy!”

A collective murmur swept through the crowd.

Dragon Slaying’s remaining students looked pale.

Their early momentum and aggressive token hunting had not been enough to overcome the catastrophic losses suffered when their highest-token groups were dismantled one after another.

The referee raised both hands, calling for attention as the applause continued.

”Before we proceed to the final stage of the tournament, it is tradition to announce the Most Valuable Participant of the third trial!”

The projection screens shifted again.

”This trial’s MVP is... Gray Vireux of Clementine’s Sword & Magic Academy!”

The roar that followed was even louder than the ranking announcement.

The screens immediately began replaying the key moments of Gray’s performance in crisp, high-definition detail.

First came the long sequence of him holding the main stronghold alone.

The footage showed the combined forces of Gloria and Dragon Slaying Academy gathering outside the gates, the arrival of multiple 4th-year elites, the layered assaults, the activation of the black crown, and Gray standing calmly at the top of the stairs while student after student failed to push him back.

The crowd watched in renewed awe as the massive combined attack was nullified, leaving him completely unharmed while still holding Mariinne in a bridal carry.

The next sequence was even more devastating.

The projection showed Gray leaving the stronghold and systematically hunting the three largest token-holding groups.

Lyria’s relaxed camp.

Darius’s oppressive command.

Vaelor’s disciplined formation.

Each confrontation played out in condensed but clear highlights: the calm approach, the one-sided dismantling, the clean elimination of the leaders, and the collection of enormous token piles

The final clip focused on the [Severing Pursuit] that cut through Vaelor’s entire multi-layered defensive net in a single perfect line, ending with the scar carved into the ground and the remaining students surrendering in silence.

When the replay finished, the hall was still thundering with applause.

In the VIP section, the reactions were more layered.

Nobles who had previously doubted Clementine’s chances now clapped with genuine respect, some still wearing stunned expressions.

Others, particularly those with children in competing academies, applauded more stiffly, their faces tight with the uncomfortable realization of how wide the gap had been.

Gloria sat rigidly, golden eyes fixed on the screen where Gray’s figure still lingered in the final freeze-frame.

Her earlier confidence had been thoroughly shaken.

Aurora, by contrast, looked openly satisfied. She clapped at a leisurely pace, the faint smile on her lips carrying clear pride.

The Emperor nodded slowly, acknowledging the result with the gravity of someone who understood the political weight of such a dominant performance.

The Northern Duchess watched with open amusement, clearly entertained by the entire spectacle.

And the Saintess Elara observed the lingering image of Gray with quiet, thoughtful eyes, as if still evaluating the purity of the battle qi she had praised earlier.

On the arena platform, Gray stood among the returning students with the same indifferent expression he had worn for most of the trial.

He did not react to the applause, the MVP title, or the repeated projections of his own actions.

The referee’s voice rose once more above the noise.

”With the third trial concluded, the Inter-Academy Exchange now moves toward its final stage! The two remaining academies, Clementine’s Sword & Magic Academy and Gloria Academy, will face each other in the ultimate confrontation!”

The crowd’s excitement surged again.

Not long after the announcements finished, Aurora gathered the remaining Clementine students in a quieter section near the waiting platforms.

Seraph and the two other girls stood in front of her, still carrying the residual excitement from the ranking reveal.

Gray stood slightly apart, his expression remaining as indifferent as ever.

Aurora looked over them with a relaxed, satisfied smile.

”You’ve all done more than enough,” she said warmly.

”First place in the third trial, continuous control of the main stronghold, and an MVP performance that the entire kingdom is still talking about. I’m already satisfied with the result. There’s no need for any of you to push yourselves to the point of collapse in the final stage. Fight well, but don’t throw your lives away for pride. We’ve already proven our point.”

The girls exchanged glances, clearly relieved by her words.

One of them spoke up hesitantly.

”Headmistress... are you sure? Gloria Academy still has a lot of strong 4th-years left. If we hold back too much...”

Aurora waved a hand lightly.

”I’m sure. The gap we created in the third trial is already massive. Even if the final confrontation is difficult, the overall evaluation of the Exchange will heavily favor us. You’ve earned the right to fight with clear heads instead of desperation.”

Seraph nodded slowly.

”Understood. We’ll be careful.”

The other two girls voiced their agreement as well. After a few more practical instructions about rest and recovery before the final stage, Aurora dismissed them.

”Go. Get some food and rest while you can. The final stage won’t begin immediately.”

The girls gave small bows and left, still occasionally glancing back toward Gray with a mixture of admiration and leftover awkwardness from his earlier cold look.

Once they were gone, the atmosphere shifted.

Aurora turned to Gray.

The relaxed satisfaction on her face remained, but a faint, more serious smile settled over it as she looked at him directly.

”Make sure you win.”

Gray raised an eyebrow.

”You don’t trust me?”

”No, of course I do,” Aurora replied without hesitation.

”But you seem bored. Throughout the entire third trial you looked like you were completing a chore rather than competing. So I figured you might need some kind of reward to get a little motivation.”

At this, his eyebrow rose further, genuine interest flickering across his otherwise flat expression.

”And what kind of reward could it be?”

Aurora stepped closer.

The height difference made it easy for her to lean in.

She brought her lips near his ear and whispered something softly, her warm breath ghosting against his skin.

The words themselves were quiet enough that no one else could have caught them, but the effect on Gray was immediate.

When she pulled back, her face was noticeably red. She cleared her throat once, trying to reclaim her usual composure, though the flush on her cheeks lingered.

Gray stared at her for a second.

Then he spoke calmly, though his face had changed quite a bit.

”I’ll win.”

The flat boredom that had clung to him since the end of the trial was gone. In its place was a sharp, almost eager seriousness.

Aurora took one look at his expression and broke into laughter.

”Pfft... I-I... pwahhahaha!”

It started as a light chuckle, then grew until she had to cover her mouth with one hand. Even her shoulders started shaking...

After a moment, she even wiped a small tear from the corner of her eye, still laughing at the sudden change in him.

”You’re so easy to read when it comes to certain things,” she said between soft laughs, her face still faintly red.

”Good. Hold on to that motivation.”
