The Huo Family's Troublesome Maid

Chapter 50: Chapter 50: King C and Huo Jingchen

The moment the system notification sounded in Xi Yunxui’s mind, her attention was completely captured.

[Bonus Reward: Lucky Draw.]

Xi Yunxui’s eyes brightened.

A lucky draw!

She had been waiting for this.

The system’s lucky draw had always been unpredictable. There was no telling what she might receive from it.

Perhaps another useful modern skill.

Perhaps a cultivation-related treasure.

Perhaps some kind of elixir.

Or, if she was extremely lucky, something that could help her become stronger.

She was just about to ask the system to activate it when another notification appeared.

[Recommendation: Host should perform the Lucky Draw when alone.]

Xi Yunxui blinked.

Alone?

[Yes.]

[The Lucky Draw may produce an unexpected reward manifestation. Performing it in the presence of outsiders is not recommended.]

Xi Yunxui slowly glanced around.

Madam Huo and her three friends were still nearby.

They were standing beneath the shade of the trees, chatting leisurely after their meal.

Xi Yunxui immediately understood.

There was no way she could start some mysterious lucky draw in front of them.

What if something appeared out of nowhere?

What would she say?

Madam, please don’t worry. A system just dropped this thing into my hands.

Absolutely not.

Xi Yunxui nodded inwardly.

Fine. I’ll wait until I’m alone.

She had just decided to excuse herself and go look for King C when Madam Huo suddenly turned her head.

”Jingchen.”

Xi Yunxui instinctively looked up.

Her gaze followed Madam Huo’s.

The sight that greeted her left her momentarily speechless.

Huo Jingchen was walking toward them.

He had apparently just arrived.

He walked elegantly towards them, but unlike his usual formal appearance, he had already removed his suit jacket. His white shirt was neatly tucked into his trousers, the top button loosened slightly, while the sleeves had been rolled to his forearms.

His normally stern expression appeared considerably more relaxed.

But that wasn’t what caught Xi Yunxui’s attention.

It was what he was carrying.

Xi Yunxui stared.

Her eyes slowly widened.

King C.

The little white creature was sitting comfortably in Huo Jingchen’s arms.

And he wasn’t merely sitting there.

He looked as though he had completely settled in.

His tiny body was nestled comfortably against Huo Jingchen’s chest, his little hooves resting on the man’s arm.

His fluffy white fur looked particularly clean and soft beneath the afternoon sunlight.

His two tiny horns peeked proudly from his head.

His golden eyes were half-lidded.

He looked ridiculously satisfied.

Xi Yunxui stared at him in disbelief.

How did this happen?

She had been searching everywhere for him earlier.

She had been worried that he had wandered somewhere and caused another disaster.

And now—

He was sitting in Huo Jingchen’s arms like a pampered young master.

Their eyes met.

King C froze.

For a moment, he stared at Xi Yunxui.

Xi Yunxui narrowed her eyes slightly.

King C immediately turned his head away.

His little ears drooped.

Xi Yunxui almost laughed.

He’s still angry with me.

She could already imagine what he was thinking.

You tried to roast me alive.

I didn’t actually roast you.

You intended to.

Xi Yunxui sighed inwardly.

Before she could say anything, the system’s voice suddenly sounded in her mind.

[The creature appears to have found a new throne.]

Xi Yunxui almost choked.

What?

[Correction: A considerably more luxurious throne.]

Xi Yunxui pressed her lips together.

Her shoulders trembled slightly.

She desperately tried not to laugh.

System, stop.

[The system merely made an objective observation.]

You are absolutely enjoying this.

[The system has no such emotion.]

Xi Yunxui nearly rolled her eyes.

She turned her attention back to Huo Jingchen.

By then, he had reached them.

---

Madam Shen was the first to speak.

She looked at the little creature in Huo Jingchen’s arms and let out a quiet laugh.

”Jingchen, where did you find this little goat?”

Huo Jingchen paused.

He glanced down.

Only then did he seem to properly register just how comfortable King C had become.

The little creature was almost sprawled against him.

Huo Jingchen’s brows rose slightly.

He already knew that King C belonged to Xi Yunxui, having met him on the plane.

What surprised him was how quickly the creature had apparently become comfortable with him.

Still, Huo Jingchen didn’t make much of it.

He raised his head and politely greeted the women.

”Good afternoon, Mother.”

Then he turned slightly toward the others.

”Good afternoon, Auntie Shen.”

”Good afternoon, Auntie Guo.”

”Good afternoon, Auntie Han.”

The three women smiled.

”Good afternoon, Jingchen.”

”It’s been a while.”

”You look busy as usual.”

Huo Jingchen gave them a polite nod.

”Work has been quite busy recently.”

Madam Guo smiled.

”And yet you still managed to come home.”

Huo Jingchen’s gaze unconsciously shifted toward Xi Yunxui.

It was only for a moment.

But Xi Yunxui noticed.

Their eyes met.

Something warm passed through Huo Jingchen’s eyes before he looked away again.

He then explained,

”I found King C wandering around.”

He gently glanced at the creature in his arms.

”He seemed to be alone, so I picked him up and brought him here.”

Xi Yunxui immediately nodded.

”Yes, Young Master.”

She stepped forward.

”Thank you for bringing him back.”

Then she stretched out her arms.

”King C, come here.”

King C didn’t move.

Xi Yunxui blinked.

”King C.”

The little creature remained perfectly still.

He even had the audacity to turn his head slightly farther away from her.

Xi Yunxui’s lips twitched.

She stepped closer.

”Come on.”

She reached toward him.

The moment her fingers came within reach, King C shifted.

He pressed himself more firmly against Huo Jingchen.

Xi Yunxui froze.

Huo Jingchen also paused.

For several seconds, nobody said anything.

Xi Yunxui slowly lowered her hands.

”King C.”

The creature refused to look at her.

She narrowed her eyes.

”You’re coming back with me.”

King C finally turned his head.

His golden eyes looked directly into hers.

Then he deliberately closed his eyes.

Xi Yunxui’s expression became complicated.

He’s ignoring me.

She couldn’t believe it.

This little creature was actually giving her the silent treatment.

The system’s voice immediately sounded.

[The creature is demonstrating remarkable emotional resilience.]

He’s demonstrating stubbornness.

[The system believes both descriptions are accurate.]

Xi Yunxui silently sighed.

---

Madam Huo watched the exchange with amusement.

She looked from Xi Yunxui to King C and then to her son.

”I never realized your pet was a goat.”

Xi Yunxui scratched her cheek sheepishly.

”Yes, Madam.”

She glanced at King C.

”He’s... a little unusual.”

”A little?”

Madam Shen laughed.

”He looks very well-behaved.”

Xi Yunxui’s expression immediately became awkward.

If only you knew.

Well-behaved?

This creature had stolen vegetables, infiltrated a private airplane, wandered around a foreign country, raided a storehouse, and nearly gotten her fired.

And now he had apparently decided to occupy Huo Jingchen’s arms.

Xi Yunxui forced a polite smile.

”Yes. He’s usually... quite obedient.”

King C’s ears twitched.

Xi Yunxui gave him a warning look.

Don’t you dare expose yourself.

King C looked away.

Madam Huo chuckled.

”He certainly seems to like Jingchen.”

Xi Yunxui glanced at Huo Jingchen.

He was looking down at King C.

There was a faint trace of amusement in his eyes.

”I suppose so.”

Xi Yunxui reached out once more.

”King C, stop troubling Young Master. Come here.”

This time, King C reacted immediately.

He tightened his little legs around Huo Jingchen’s arm.

Xi Yunxui stared.

Really?

Huo Jingchen looked at her.

Then down at King C.

Then back at her.

A faint smile appeared on his lips.

”He doesn’t seem willing to leave.”

Xi Yunxui laughed awkwardly.

”He’s probably just being stubborn.”

King C’s ears twitched.

Xi Yunxui narrowed her eyes.

You heard that.

King C deliberately turned his head away.

---

Madam Huo looked at the time.

”Alright. We should head inside.”

She turned toward her friends.

”Let’s have some tea before you leave.”

Madam Shen nodded.

”That sounds good.”

The other two women agreed.

As they began walking toward the villa, Madam Huo turned toward Xi Yunxui.

”Yunxui, you can take your time. I’ll have someone prepare tea.”

”Yes, Madam.”

Xi Yunxui respectfully bowed her head.

”Thank you.”

Madam Huo smiled before following her friends into the villa.

Madam Shen looked back one last time at King C.

”Jingchen, don’t let the little goat escape.”

Huo Jingchen gave a small nod.

”I won’t.”

The women disappeared into the villa.

The garden gradually became quieter.

Xi Yunxui stood there.

Huo Jingchen stood several steps away.

And King C was still comfortably nestled in Huo Jingchen’s arms.

Xi Yunxui looked at him.

King C looked back.

Neither spoke.

Finally, Xi Yunxui sighed.

”King C.”

The little creature ignored her.

”You’ve had enough fun.”

Nothing.

”You’re supposed to stay close to me.”

King C finally opened one golden eye and spoke to Xi Yunxui through telepathy.

[I’m comfortable here.]

Xi Yunxui almost laughed in disbelief.

You can’t stay there forever.

[Why not?]

Because that’s my employer.

King C glanced up at Huo Jingchen.

Then at Xi Yunxui.

[He doesn’t seem to mind.]

Xi Yunxui was speechless.

She decided she would deal with him later.

Her gaze shifted to Huo Jingchen.

”Young Master, I’m sorry for troubling you.”

”You’re not troubling me.”

His answer came almost immediately.

Xi Yunxui blinked.

Huo Jingchen looked at her calmly.

”He’s quite light.”

Xi Yunxui nodded.

”Still, I should take him.”

She stepped forward again.

This time, King C immediately buried his head against Huo Jingchen’s chest.

Xi Yunxui stopped.

Huo Jingchen’s lips twitched.

For some reason, the sight amused him.

”Perhaps you should give him some time.”

Xi Yunxui sighed.

”Yes, Young Master.”

There was a brief silence.

Huo Jingchen looked at her.

Xi Yunxui looked at him.

The afternoon breeze gently moved through the garden.

Neither of them spoke.

But unlike the awkward silences they had shared before, this one felt strangely peaceful.

Huo Jingchen’s eyes softened as he watched her.

Xi Yunxui, unaware of what was going through his mind, simply stared at King C.

She couldn’t help wondering how a creature that had been stealing vegetables earlier had somehow managed to win Huo Jingchen’s favor.

Then she remembered something.

Her lucky draw.

I need to find somewhere quiet.

She glanced toward the villa.

She would have to wait until everyone was gone.

Only then could she finally find out what her bonus reward was.

Unfortunately, Xi Yunxui had no idea that before she could perform that lucky draw, King C’s new friendship with Huo Jingchen was about to create another problem for her.
