The Snake God with SSS Rank Evolution System

Ignis lunged forward and drove her fist straight into the golem’s chest.

The impact split the ice. A web of cracks branched outward from the point of contact, and a chunk of crystal armor broke loose, shattering against the floor. But her hand came back bleeding. The ice had cut through her knuckles, and thin lines of red dripped onto the frost.

She didn’t have time to shake it off.

The golem’s other arm swung in from the side, a massive claw of jagged ice aimed straight at her head.

Ignis leaped. The claw carved through the space where she’d been standing and slammed into the wall behind her, shattering a section of the stone. She twisted in the air, ready to land—

Then the golem’s mouth opened.

A torrent of frost roared out, wide and blinding, a beam of killing cold that filled the chamber in an instant.

Ignis threw both arms up, crossing them in front of her face.

The ice hit her like a physical blow. Her arms held for a breathless moment, then the sheer force of it hurled her backward off her feet. She crashed into the far wall, the impact punching the air from her lungs.

”KGHAA!”

She slid down the frozen stone and hit the floor hard, leaving a smear of red against the wall behind her. Her arms were shaking. Her breath came out in ragged, frozen gasps.

The golem straightened slowly, frost curling from its mouth. Its pale blue eyes fixed on her crumpled form.

Ignis pushed herself up on one elbow, blood dripping from her split lip. She forced her legs under her, but they wouldn’t hold. She collapsed again, cheek pressing against the ice.

”...Dammit...”

The cold was seeping into her bones now. Her fire flickered somewhere deep in her core, still burning but buried under layers of frost she couldn’t break through.

The golem took a heavy step toward her.

Ignis clenched her teeth and forced her fingers to move.

”Not yet... I’m not done yet...”

Ignis forced herself upright, one hand braced against the frozen wall. Her wounds were already closing, the torn skin knitting itself back together with slow, stubborn heat. But the cold fought back harder. It crawled through her veins, sank into her bones, pressed against the fire in her core until every breath felt like swallowing needles.

She didn’t stop.

”I am a dragon,” she said through clenched teeth. ”This cold means nothing to me.”

The golem raised its arm. Frost gathered at its palm, spinning into a dense, jagged spear of ice covered in barbs. The air around it screamed as the temperature dropped further.

Then it launched the spear.

It tore across the chamber faster than anything that size had any right to move. The barbed tip spiraled through the air, aimed straight at her heart.

Ignis didn’t flinch.

She didn’t close her eyes. She didn’t dodge. She stood there, blood still dripping from her lip, and watched death come for her with the calm of a creature that had never once bowed its head.

’I will not yield.’

The spear closed the distance.

And then her body ignited.

Golden fire erupted from her core, hotter than before, hotter than the frost could touch. The cold that had wrapped around her bones burned away in an instant. The ice on the walls hissed and wept. The floor beneath her feet cracked and glowed.

The spear never reached her.

It melted mid-flight, dissolving into steam that scattered across the chamber like mist.

Ignis straightened to her full height, wreathed in golden flame. Her eyes burned like twin suns.

”You picked the wrong dragon to freeze.”

The golem took a step back.

Ignis raised her hand, and the fire answered.

Ignis felt the fire settle into her bones, steady and warm, answering her call without resistance for the first time since she’d entered this frozen hell. She held it there, let it breathe, let it burn.

But something inside her wasn’t satisfied.

”This still isn’t enough.”

She pushed harder. The golden flames around her body flared brighter, hotter, until the air itself began to warp and hiss. The frost on the walls didn’t just melt, it evaporated. The ice on the floor turned to steam. The chamber filled with a thick, rolling haze that shimmered with heat.

The golem in front of her didn’t just melt. It collapsed into a puddle of water that boiled away before it could spread.

Ignis stood in the center of it all, wreathed in gold, and yet her jaw was still tight.

”Still not enough.”

She clenched her fists. The fire roared higher, but it wasn’t the same.

”This fire still can’t match the fire from that night.”

The words tasted bitter in her mouth.

Then the ground shook.

From the shadows of the chamber, more golems rose. They climbed out of the frozen floor and the cracked walls, their pale blue eyes flickering to life one by one.

And with them came the cold.

It pressed in from every direction, thick and suffocating, smothering the heat she’d fought so hard to build. Her flames guttered. Her breath fogged. The steam around her condensed back into frost that clung to her skin.

Ignis looked at them. The army of ice that had come to put out her fire.

She rolled her shoulders once, slow and deliberate. The golden fire along her arms flickered, then steadied.

”You think numbers will change anything?”

Ignis raised both hands, palms open, and let the fire build.

A small sphere of golden light formed in the air between her hands. It was barely the size of a marble, but the heat radiating from it made the nearest golems slow their advance.

Ignis stared at it. Then at the army in front of her.

”I’ll burn through all of you,” she said quietly. ”And then I’ll burn hotter.”

She crushed the sphere.

The chamber turned gold.

Golden fire swept outward from Ignis in every direction, a tidal wave of heat that swallowed the frost, the ice, the golems, everything. The walls cracked and glowed. The air itself seemed to burn.

One of the golems tried to move. Its leg cracked, and it dragged itself forward through the molten stone, one arm raised as if it could still fight.

Ignis didn’t even look at it.

She stepped forward and brought her foot down on its head. The skull shattered under her heel like brittle glass, fragments scattering across the glowing floor.

She stood there, breathing hard, surrounded by the ruins of her enemies.

”This is the fire I was looking for. The fire that burns everything.”

The golden flames around her body pulsed, steady and absolute.

Then the air split open.

Reality cracked in front of her, a jagged tear that shimmered like broken glass. Beyond it, in the space between spaces, dozens of eyes opened. Massive, unblinking, staring at her from every direction. They floated in the void beyond the tears, watching her with murderous intent.

Ignis didn’t flinch.

She tilted her head, golden fire still coiling around her arms, and met their gaze without blinking.

”Come on then.”

Her lips curled into a sharp, wild grin.

”Impress me. If you can.”

And the eyes trembled the world around them, warping everything, as if to prove they would bring the fire to its knees.

On the other side of the Dream Grave dungeon, Adam sat on a weathered wooden bench just outside the entrance. Beside him was the old man who had once broken the seal on this place, a thin figure wrapped in a faded cloak, holding a chipped teapot in both hands. Steam curled from the spout, rising into the cool morning air.

The old man poured a second cup and slid it across the bench toward Adam.

”Sorry I only have this,” he said. ”I wasn’t expecting another guest so soon.”

Adam took the cup and shook his head. ”It’s fine. I’m just worried about Ignis.”

The old man nodded slowly, watching the steam rise from his own cup.

”Ohh, so her name is Ignis. I was a bit surprised when she showed up this morning without the rest of you. She asked to enter the dungeon.”

Adam blew on his tea and took a sip. His eyebrows lifted slightly.

”Good.”

”Glad you like it.” The old man smiled faintly.

Adam took another sip and leaned back against the bench.

”Yeah... she’s probably got a lot on her mind. So she went in alone to beat up some monsters and clear her head.”

The old man swirled his tea, watching the leaves settle at the bottom of the cup.

”Releasing frustration through violence is easy,” he said quietly. ”But it’s also dangerous, young man.”

Adam nodded. ”That’s true. But for Ignis, that’s how she expresses herself.”

The old man didn’t answer right away. He took a slow sip of his tea, then set the cup down on the bench between them.

”That’s not what I meant.”

Adam glanced at him.

”What I mean is that she went into the Dream Grave alone.”

Adam frowned. ”Why? What’s wrong with that?”

The old man stared at the dark entrance of the dungeon, where the shadows pooled thick and cold. His voice dropped, soft and measured.

”This dungeon is called the Dream Grave for a reason. It turns the dreams of every challenger who enters into a graveyard.”

Adam’s cup stopped halfway to his lips.

”...What?”

The old man turned his head and met Adam’s eyes.

”Whatever dream they carry inside them, whatever hope they cling to... this place buries it. That is the nature of the Dream Grave.”
