The dragon's harem

Chapter 1709: From Fire Into The Sun

Mathilde looked at Mira for a moment and yawned. She stood, scratched her butt, and stretched her back. She grinned and scratched her knee with her toes, standing on one leg as she extended a hand forward.

”No, you aren’t Mira. You’re the greed inside her.” Mathilde’s lips twisted into a wicked grin. ”You woke me up from my sleep, and you have to pay your debt. Isn’t that right?”

No one moved. No one dared to. The Greed Portfolio could feel the insane power burning in Mathilde’s chest, and everyone else didn’t want to get in the way of whatever plan she came from.

Eris and the other wives were empathetic; they cared about Mira and the kid she carries. They didn’t want to harm them, and that was a crucial advantage that Greed needed to survive.

But Greed felt nothing in Mathilde’s cold and dead eyes.

Now, the fight had fundamentally changed. Now, the portfolio had to escape the wrath of a full-fledged Archon. It was no longer about Greed killing Arad’s wives; it was about not being killed instead.

The angel’s hierarchy was quite strange, with many ranks like the celestial, angels, archons, and archangels as the base, and there were many more ranks to list. The last of those ranks, the archangel, is an unofficial one and just a title given to those Archons who could surpass true gods in power.

At this moment, there are only two angels who have been given the title of Archangel due to their raw power alone. Many archons were called archangels, but that was just an honorary title.

Those two angels were Lucifer, the first angel AO created, and Aria, the Archon of the current Overgod.

In the divine world, Mathilde was nowhere near those two monsters; compared to their titanic radiance, she was but a tiny candle struggling in the heart of a blizzard, trying its best to preserve its light and warmth against the endless tide of abominations.

But that tiny light was far too massive for Greed to fathom. The entire mortal world rested beneath her foot, and if she so chose, her wings would light, and her titanic legs would come crashing down from above the clouds, stomping the entire world all at once.

Even if Greed had its full power as a full-fledged god, it wouldn’t be starting a fight with someone like Mathilda. Not because it’ll lose, but because Mathilda is powerful enough to never be worth the effort and damage.

Mira didn’t speak and just stared at Mathilde for a few long moments. Greed knew it had made the mistake of staying still for too long, and now it was already in the firing line. There was no doubt that Mathilde could catch it, and that she wouldn’t let go.

From just one look at Mathilde’s divine magic, Greed could understand where and how she was born. The elves are just as obsessed with hands and feet as humans are obsessed with butts and breasts, so she was an incarnation of that.

When Diana called her the foot fetish angel, she wasn’t joking. She just called as she saw it, and she was right.

So to fully understand Mathilde’s power and escape her, Greed had to dive deeper into its memories and figure out why elves are so obsessed with feet, and the answer was more roundabout than it could be useful.

To the elves, feet signified many things, two of which were good health and grace. An elf with healthy legs is a healthy elf, and an elf with powerful legs is a graceful and fast one. So this gave greed two key clues. Mathilde’s legs are her true form, and so they are her weakness. Then, on top of that, she is as fast as they come, and probably kicks like a full-fledged divine being.

Greed looked for Mathilde’s halo, and it didn’t find it, meaning that either her legs are somehow her halo, or that her halo is too big to fit in the castle.

That only made the theory that Mathilde’s legs and feet are her true power and weakness more concrete. Ripping her heart out or cutting her head wouldn’t damage her at all; he needs to cut her ankles away.

But that wasn’t the end of it. Elves saw their hands and feet as explicit and indecent, and they always covered them up well, except for a rare few. Even in human history, there were no shortages of kings and queens flashing their beauty in public to garner support, so elves did the same as well.

That second part was Greed’s main problem; Mathilde was naked, and it probably owed her something for the sight. That didn’t mean that Greed would have to pay, but it meant Mathilda could use that fact to subtract from any cost he might ask for. For example, he can ask her to offer her life, and she’ll change it to just an apology or something.

Greed would’ve wanted to think about it some more, but sadly, Mathilde wasn’t going to wait any longer. When Greed came to it, her foot was just an inch away from it.

But, Greed was in luck. Mathilde herself didn’t seem to care whether Mira or the child would live or die, but since her demigoddess Cerilla cared, she had to be careful.

Greed jumped back, flying through the window with one swift move to escape. There was no way to defeat or escape Mathilde in a direct confrontation, so getting creative was a must.

With its current power, dealing with an archon, especially one as battle-hardened as Mathilda, is impossible. Especially now that Mira is slowly working herself out inside their soul. If Greed wanted to win, he had to focus on killing Mira first.

But, the only reason they aren’t violating the living hell out of it, is that Mira is still alive. Greed was certain that if Mira was already dead, Eris would’ve turned his ass inside out and cremated the deformed corpse.

”Oh, there you are.” At that moment, another voice came in, and Greed knew it was screwed. The one behind him wasn’t standing at all; she was floating on a white cloud a few meters in the air, just so she’d be above Greed by a few feet.

That didn’t bode well.

”Amaterasu... You asked for the cost earlier. Don’t ever show your face anywhere near me, for any reason or possibility. I want you to bring me no harm, no matter what.” Greed stared at her and smiled. ”And don’t tell me that’s too much. It basically means you can go free without paying a penny.”

She smiled. ”How about no?” She looked at Greed, amused to see it wearing Mira’s face and glaring right back at her. ”I shall not pay you anything, and you’ll do whatever I ask.”

Greed laughed. ”That’s what you say. But, don’t you remember, even your power can’t restrain me with ease. I am Greed, and I shall get what I’m owed.”

Amaterasu laughed as well, joining in on the fun. But then, she slashed Mira’s head off with a single flick of her toes, sending it rolling on the ground.

Everyone froze and paled; even Mathilde stopped at the window and didn’t dare fly out when Amaterasu cut Mira down.

”Aren’t you speaking against me a bit too much?” Amaterasu’s voice was even, and Mira’s severed head frowned and flew right back to reattach to the body.

”You crazy freak! This body is pregnant!” Greed stared at Amaterasu with a terrified face, forgetting that its power didn’t work on her.

”Without the sun, life would’ve never started. My son is a god of rebirth and renewal, and I can get life sucking my toes whenever I want. So, nothing is going to happen to the baby.” She pointed at Greed. ”Where did you think I went? To contact those two, of course.”

Mathilde landed behind Greed, and so did Diana, Gamond, Linda, Betty, Sena, and many more. Greed was surrounded, but their power combined paled in comparison to the disaster called Amaterasu in front of it.

Greed knew deep down that its enemy is the sun itself.
