A '70s Flash Marriage: Raising Cubs, Making Millions

Chapter 152: Chapter 152: The Enthusiasm of a Stranger Auntie

Fu Xiaoxiao happily finished eating two cakes and smiled as she packed up the remaining six.

”I’ll give you two, and we’ll keep four.” Fu Xiaoxiao took out two and handed them to Lu Feng.

Lu Lin and Lu Chen looked at the two cakes in Lu Feng’s arms, their eyes full of reluctance.

”Daddy, it’s just you alone; there are five of us!” Lu Chen tugged on Lu Feng’s pants, pointing at Fu Xiaoxiao to remind him.

Fu Xiaoxiao chuckled as she stepped forward to pinch Lu Chen’s cheek. ”Can you even finish one cake? We can split the four cakes into two meals.”

”Alright.” Lu Chen had just eaten a slice and was already full. He rubbed his little belly regretfully, wondering why he couldn’t eat anymore!

Lu Feng mimicked Fu Xiaoxiao and pinched Lu Chen’s cheek. ”Listen to your mom carefully while we’re outside, and don’t ever leave her sight, understood? Especially you, Comrade Lu Chen.”

”Understood! I definitely won’t run around again.” Lu Chen immediately replied loudly.

The shadow of being taken away last time still lingered, and he didn’t dare leave Fu Xiaoxiao’s side anymore.

”The same goes for you, Lu Lin. You’re the big brother, keep an eye on them, and don’t let them run off.” Lu Feng patted Lu Lin’s shoulder seriously.

”Mm,” Lu Lin nodded heavily; he would protect mom and his younger brothers.

Finally, Lu Feng looked at Fu Xiaoxiao. ”Be careful, everything’s ready, the tickets are bought, and I’ll have Wang Lu take you to the train station in a while.”

”You be careful too.” Fu Xiaoxiao looked at Lu Feng, lightly hooking her fingers around his.

Lu Feng cast a deep gaze at her, holding her hand tightly and gently squeezing it. Fearing his reluctance to part, Lu Feng pulled his hat down.

”I’m leaving.”

”Goodbye, Daddy.” Lu Lin and Lu Chen followed beside Fu Xiaoxiao, watching Lu Feng depart.

When Wang Lu arrived, Fu Xiaoxiao carried Li Sen’s and Li Lei’s luggage, while Lu Lin and Lu Chen carried their own bags, each holding one of Li Lei’s and Li Sen’s hands by her side.

”Xiao Lu, thank you for your hard work.” Fu Xiaoxiao said embarrassingly to Wang Lu.

”What are you saying, Sis? I’m the one who volunteered.” Wang Lu said proudly, since ever since Fu Xiaoxiao had brought him food, his comrades had been eyeing this little task, just waiting for the day he’s unavailable so they could take his place!

All for a bite to eat, how ambitious.

Hmph.

Wang Lu stepped forward, placing all the things in Fu Xiaoxiao’s hands into the car. Fu Xiaoxiao got in the car with four children; along the way, Li Sen and Li Lei had tense expressions, looking nervous.

”Stone, Wood, what’s wrong?” Fu Xiaoxiao noticed their behavior and asked puzzledly. ”Are you not feeling well?”

”Mom, they’re just scared.” Lu Chen looked at Fu Xiaoxiao and explained.

”Scared of what?” Fu Xiaoxiao blinked.

”They’re afraid their mom won’t want them.” Lu Lin glanced at Stone, speaking slowly.

Fu Xiaoxiao was taken aback, looking at Li Lei and Li Sen, who were stiff all over, and gently rubbed their heads.

”As for others, I don’t know, but Sister Chen Xiu, she wouldn’t abandon you two.” When Fu Xiaoxiao sent Chen Xiu off that day, she saw the reluctance in her eyes, wishing she could change her mind and keep them.

Regarding her own children, how could Chen Xiu easily part with them?

”Mm.” Hearing Fu Xiaoxiao say this, a trace of smile finally appeared on Li Lei’s face.

Wang Lu drove through the town and stopped in front of the train station.

”Sis, we’re here.” Wang Lu looked toward the backseat.

Fu Xiaoxiao nodded, gently waking the four sleepy children. Wang Lu got out of the car and escorted them into the station, finding a vacant spot as the train hadn’t arrived yet.

”Xiao Lu, thanks for the trouble.” Fu Xiaoxiao waved at Wang Lu.

Wang Lu waved back at Fu Xiaoxiao and turned to leave the station.

Fu Xiaoxiao, leading four children, and being so young and pretty, hardly looked like she was a mother of four. People in the station waiting for the train curiously turned to look.

Having a soldier escort her to the station didn’t look like they were ordinary folks either.

”Miss, are these all your children?” A granny next door eating corn, looked at Fu Xiaoxiao curiously.

”Yes,” Fu Xiaoxiao lightly nodded and didn’t say anything more.

”Miss, I have some corn here, take it and let the kids try.” The granny kindly offered two corns, intending for them to share.

Fu Xiaoxiao smiled and shook her head. ”No, thank you. They’ve already eaten.”

”Oh, come on, try it. We grew this corn at home, it’s really good.” The granny smiled at Fu Xiaoxiao.

”No need, keep it for yourself, we have food.” Fu Xiaoxiao smiled and refused again.

Hearing Fu Xiaoxiao refuse repeatedly, the granny awkwardly returned to her seat with a smile.

Others seemed slightly dissatisfied with Fu Xiaoxiao, wondering why she repeatedly rejected such a well-meaning gesture.

Feeling others’ gaze, Fu Xiaoxiao sat calmly, ignoring them.

Lu Lin and Lu Chen couldn’t tolerate such looks.

”Brother, mom already said no, why does this old granny keep insisting?” Lu Chen asked naively, eyes full of innocence.

”Because she doesn’t hear others’ refusals.” Lu Lin answered lightly. ”Maybe because she’s older, and her ears aren’t good.”

”Oh.” Lu Chen nodded. ”It’s strange, mom already said no, yet she insists. Mom’s cakes are way better than corn!”

”Exactly,” Lu Lin responded calmly.

Fu Xiaoxiao glanced at the two little guys, amused inside.

Two little men protecting her!

It made her quite happy.

She rubbed their heads and smiled lightly. ”Remember, don’t randomly accept things from strangers! We have enough, remember that.”

”Got it.” The four children looked at Fu Xiaoxiao and responded obediently.

Seeing this, the dissatisfied onlookers changed their views about Fu Xiaoxiao. She was teaching the kids not to take things from strangers, which wasn’t wrong.

Indeed, the granny insisting on giving corn and not understanding refusal seemed more problematic.

The granny sensed the crowd’s gaze and mumbled loudly enough for everyone to hear. ”Really, trying to be kind by giving her some corn with four kids to feed, but she didn’t appreciate it. Ah... no kindness returns.”

Fu Xiaoxiao glanced at her. ”By your logic, if I offered you something you absolutely don’t need and you didn’t accept it, should I go around complaining that kindness goes unreturned? There are reasons why I didn’t accept your offer; I already said we don’t need it since we left home full. If you think complaining is valid only if we accept your corn, then you’d better rethink what true kindness is. Not following your script doesn’t mean kindness goes unreturned.”

The granny was surprised by Fu Xiaoxiao’s direct response, offering no face.

The crowd agreed with Fu Xiaoxiao’s words; indeed, what was the granny complaining about when no help was asked for?
