Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 329: Ancient Battlefield

The information about the suspected Demon God and the tenth Divine Clan might prove useful to Liora, but that would be for the future.

At the moment, her main focus was to obtain more Indestructible Matter and World Origin, helping herself advance to the Greater Devil stage and improve her combat power further.

As for what secrets this world held? That was a matter for the future, if at all.

Thus, pushing the matter aside for the time being, she continued her journey through the Ruin.

The duo, one Devil and one monster with a human head, went through several rooms.

Some contained Demon Weapons, others were full of corpses, while there were even some that contained resources useful to Divine Race members.

Clearly, just like the frail man had previously suggested, the Divine Army had not been ready to fight back and was caught by surprise.

They had no time to hide their resources or take them away, and most likely, the war had ended in mutual destruction, leaving those things here.

Liora would not waste them.

She let the umbrella devour the Demon Weapons and the corpses littering the barracks, while putting the resources into her space ring.

Though she had not obtained the umbrella for long, Liora could sense that its quality had reached the peak of the current realm.

As long as it had an opportunity, this Demon Weapon would break through the Demon Saint realm, becoming equivalent to a True Devil.

However, as it was always the case with things, such a rapid improvement had not come without a price.

--

Seeing the black umbrella trembling beside her soul and hearing the voices in her mind trying to tempt her, Liora could not help but turn furious.

Snorting coldly, she urged the Blood Blade Technique.

Instantly, her Manifestation moved.

A thunderous clanging noise rang in her mind as the aura of the crimson saber surged and suppressed the black umbrella with all its strength.

The Demon Weapon attempted to fight back.

However, the Blood Blade Technique had been improved many times, and the Manifestation had absorbed Indestructible Matter countless times.

By now, the saber had turned more real than illusory, making its power ever more overwhelming.

Therefore, although the Demon Weapon tried to resist, it was ultimately unable to.

After several more attempts to break free, the umbrella finally stopped struggling.

Sensing its submission, the crimson saber circled it a few more times as if taunting it, before finally returning to Liora’s soul.

Though now free, the Demon Weapon did not dare to provoke her again.

It could only settle far away from Liora’s soul, as if afraid that approaching any further would offend her and result in its death.

”A Demon Weapon is a Demon Weapon after all. Although the black umbrella was originally obedient, it became far more arrogant after it was strengthened.”

”If I were an ordinary Weapon Master, the previous situation would have been extremely dangerous.”

”At best, their personality would have been affected, while at worst, they would have become the Demon Weapon’s incarnation. A mere puppet.”

This was a danger that every Divine Race member faced, and was also the reason why, although ”practicing” was easy for them, there were actually very few powerful members among their ranks.

”A normal Divine Race member has to balance the progress of their Demon Weapon’s improvement and match it with the tempering of their own will. Otherwise, they will eventually lose themselves.”

”Still, the hidden dangers are there.”

Liora strongly doubted that this was the biggest reason why Divine Race members were so arrogant and considered themselves to be another race, deeming everyone else inferior.

Though Liora wished to confirm this, she understood that now was not the time to conduct further experiments.

By now, she and the frail man had travelled through the entire Ruin. In the end, only a single room remained unexplored.

Standing in front of a closed gate and feeling the faint sense of threat coming from the inside, Liora paused for a few seconds, and her eyes narrowed.

On the side, the frail man thought that she was judging the situation. Thus, without her needing to ask, he took the initiative to explain on his own.

”Although Ruins are real, their existence is actually based on a certain item.”

”Just like Evil Spirits, it’s said that the resentment of the armies back then manifested and gave birth to the Ruins.”

”It’s exactly the items that the Ruins are based on that are the most valuable. However, they are also the most difficult to obtain.”

”If you wish to break the ruin and collect them, you have to go through a challenge. It might be a battle against an Evil Spirit, a test of will, or even a test of talent.”

”My lord, if you want to, I can go in and give it a try—”

Halfway through his words, Liora opened the closed gate. Then, without waiting for the frail man to finish his words, she slapped him in the back and sent him flying into the room.

After waiting for a couple of seconds and sensing that he was still alive, Liora finally stepped in.

Instantly, her vision went dark.

--

”Commander! The Divine Clans have attacked! An army led by a Demon Saint has attacked the barracks!”

The sound of a door being opened and a person rushing in echoed in Liora’s ears, followed by a terrified report.

When she opened her eyes again, she found herself in an orderly room, standing in front of a laid-out map. The map contained several complicated markings, with nine red dots branded clearly with the word ”enemy”.

At any other time, Liora would have taken a deeper look at the map and the room.

But the man’s terrified words and the several auras she sensed in the distance were far more important at the moment.

She didn’t respond to the messenger. With a flicker, her figure vanished and appeared on top of a high wall.

With a sweep of her consciousness, everything around her came into her view.

Behind her, an army wearing golden armor and shouting things like ”For the Divine Army!” and ”For the Demon God!” could be seen, while outside the military base, another army was marching with murderous intent, roaring to kill the blasphemous mortals.

Without the need to guess, Liora understood their identities.

They were the Divine Army and the army of the nine Divine Clans, respectively.

”An illusion based on the fight that took place back then? Is this one of the so-called challenges that the stupid guy mentioned?”
