Chapter 46: Crimson Maiden [8] - Interrogation

When the Torturer regained her consciousness, she found herself alone in a dark, empty room.

Apart from her, only a pair of thick, metal chains existed, wrapped tightly around her four limbs.

The Torturer subconsciously moved her body in an attempt to break free, but no matter how hard she tried, there was no result.

”What happened? Did I get abducted? Why would someone powerful enough to knock me out instantly kidnap me?”, she couldn’t help but think while she continued to struggle.

Her movements seemed to have been noticed by her captors, as not long after, the only door in the room slowly opened.

Then, three figures stepped inside one after another.

Although the gap in the door was fairly small—barely enough for a single person to walk through—the light passing by the opening gave the Torturer full view of these three figures.

Two of them were female, one with scarlet hair and one with obsidian-black, while the gender of the other one was completely unknown.

But among the three, this was the person with the most imposing appearance and aura.

Their rough fur and strong body exuded an aura of oppression, while their whiskers twisted eerily.

The rat-like Devil walked forward with an unfathomable momentum and a penetrating gaze that seemed to read straight into one’s heart, causing the Torturer’s pupils to shrink.

Just then, though, the terrifying atmosphere that had just arisen was suddenly shattered.

The originally imposing Devil lowered their gaze and spoke respectfully, addressing one of the two women:

”Lord, the prisoner has woken up.”, he announced, despite that much being already obvious.

This funny scene made the Torturer feel strange, but at the same time, it helped alleviate the pressure.

The tension she had previously felt seemed to disappear, and an unreasonable confidence rose within her.

Without knowing where she found the courage, the Torturer lifted her head and looked at the scarlet-haired woman—who seemed to be in the lead—and spoke in an almost commanding manner.

”Untouchables! How dare you kidnap me? Do you know who I am? I swear, once I leave this place, I’ll have your bodies and souls undergo torture for thousands of years!”

The Torturer straightened her spine, making the chains binding her clang, while she looked at the three Devils before her with disdain and contempt as if they were the ones who were chained.

Her sudden outburst caught Liora off guard, who turned to look at Scurry with an inquiring expression.

In return, Scurry waved his furry paws, conveying that he had nothing to do with it.

Receiving this answer, Liora’s eyes narrowed.

She couldn’t understand the source of the Torturer’s confidence, unless she possessed a trump card that could help her get out of this situation.

Having personally experienced Lord Embers’ conspiracy before, she didn’t dare to underestimate any ranked Devil now.

While Liora was deep in thought, her silence only served to make the Torturer even more sure of herself.

”Have you finally understood your mistakes? Now, as long as you kneel down and beg for mercy, I might grace you with my forgiveness.”, her proud voice spread throughout the dark room.

In shock, Liora took a step back and activated Dusk Armament, forming a shield made of shadows before her.

Then, her demonic energy boiled like magma, coursing through her body as she checked her own condition.

”Did I turn into a protagonist and obtain an Intelligence Reducing Aura?”, she couldn’t help but whisper.

Yet, no matter how much she searched for any changes, she found nothing strange about her.

”Cough, cough... Lord.”, Scurry’s voice suddenly interrupted.

”I think that this person is simply stupid. Perhaps it’s a side effect of her bloodline, or perhaps an accident occurred during her birth.”, he said.

Hearing his words, Liora instantly breathed a sigh of relief before turning to look at the Torturer with pity in her eyes.

But then, she felt a little sad.

Could she really obtain any valuable information from such a person?

Glancing at Scurry, she asked with faint hope:

”Do you know any interrogation techniques?”

Sadly, her question received a negative response.

Unfortunately, neither did she.

It was fine to ask her to kill someone, but to interrogate? This was completely out of her area of expertise.

Just when Liora was wondering whether she should simply get rid of this woman and search for another—more cooperative Devil—a faint voice came from the side:

”Lord, I think I can give it a try.”

Surprisingly, the owner of this voice was not Scurry, but someone Liora had somewhat ignored before—Alpha.

Sizing her trusted subordinate up and feeling as though she was meeting her for the first time, Liora didn’t refuse her offer.

It didn’t hurt to try. At worst, it would simply waste some time.

”Do you need anything?”, she asked, and Alpha immediately shook her head before replying:

”No, I only ask that the two of you leave the room.”

”That’s fine.”

Although doubtful, Liora didn’t ask any further.

Making a gesture with her eyes toward Scurry, she turned around and stepped out of the room.

As she did, a loud voice echoed in her ears:

”Hahaha! Don’t think that you can intimidate me like this! You’re all untouchables! Just wait for me to get out of here!”

The Torturer’s curses rang behind her, only coming to a stop when the metal door closed shut.

Time slowly passed while Liora and Scurry waited silently outside the room.

The room was constructed using precious materials and had been reinforced with Devil Runes, ensuring that no sound escaped from within.

As such, neither of them knew what was happening inside.

Just when Liora was starting to become impatient, hesitating whether to enter the room, the door finally swung open.

From within, Alpha walked out and signaled the two to follow her.

There was absolutely no change in her external appearance or the look in her eyes compared to before, as she remained completely indifferent—as always.

Following her invitation, Liora stepped into the room, only to be surprised.

”No! No! Don’t! Don’t!”, miserable screams immediately reached her ears, as the originally confident Torturer was now wailing loudly.

Her face had turned pale, and her eyes were bloodshot as if she had undergone countless hours of intense torture.

Yet, when Liora observed her, she found no signs of physical harm. In fact, she could be certain that Alpha had not even touched her, much less harmed her.

”Lord, feel free to ask the questions you seek answers to.”, Alpha on the side whispered.

Casting a faint glance at Alpha, Liora forced herself to suppress any doubts she had for the time being and approached the nearly-insane Torturer.

Leaning down, she extended her hand and lightly tapped on her forehead, before asking a pertinent question:

”Are you ready to speak now?”

Her voice and light tap seemed to have jolted the Torturer awake, and she instantly raised her head and stared at Liora, with a hint of hope flashing in her blank eyes.

Then, as if afraid that any pause would lead to her landing in Alpha’s hands again, she hurriedly spoke:

”I’ll say! I’ll say! Ask me anything you want! Just keep her away from me!”, she nodded her head frantically in between her tears, her gaze always avoiding that of Alpha.
