Demon Cultivator in Abyssal Era

Chapter 477: Chapter 239: Abyssal Rift_2

Even without an order from the commanding officer, all the killing machines started operating immediately. Over forty vehicle-mounted anti-aircraft cannons on the ground roared in unison, their dense chains of bullets pouring into the sky like tongues of fire!

”Bang! Bang! Bang!”

The intense firepower instantly covered the entire rift, shattering the bodies of the abyss creatures flying out of the crack before their appearances could even be discerned! Severed limbs and splattered flesh fell from the sky like raindrops!

The anti-aircraft guns installed on the rooftops and the armed helicopters also opened fire, with white phosphorus incendiary shells exploding near the rift, instantly igniting hundreds of abyss creatures! The unquenchable white phosphorus burned their skin, and they howled as they fell from the sky, crashing into the ground as massive piles of flesh.

”Is this the Abyss invasion...”

Chu Xiu observed the battlefield from a distance, showing a look of shock.

Although he had experienced many things growing up, in the past, he could only hide in the shelter shivering. This was the first time he could watch the process of an Abyss invasion with his own eyes.

The suddenly torn giant rift, the dark power that gushed out and formed a black cloud, and in less than ten seconds, tens of thousands of abyss creatures charged out from the rift! Including Warrior Tier and Fierce Tier!

It was an extremely shocking scene.

Even more astonishing was that so many emerging abyss creatures were blocked and slaughtered under modern heavy fire!

After ending the Dark Era, in response to the Abyss invasion, every city had stationed troops, and all key buildings were equipped with modern firepower defense systems. For instance, Chu Xiu’s school had no fewer than twelve anti-aircraft guns!

Under such dense firepower, even Fierce Tier creatures would be quickly shattered!

However...

After the torrential downpour of firepower, the metal storm of bullets began to slow down as the army adopted an alternating fire pattern to mitigate the effects of overheated gun barrels.

As the intensity of firepower lessened, some high-tier abyss creatures broke through the fire blockade!

Although powerful Awakened immediately intercepted them and swiftly eliminated these stragglers, Chu Xiu still furrowed his brow slightly.

This Abyss invasion seemed a bit different.

”In past Abyss invasions, the initial intensity was always the greatest, with abyss creatures swarming out and densely filling the entire rift.”

This was why the military commanders always ordered full barrages at the outset.

But this time, although the number of vanguard troops was sufficient, it seemed somewhat reserved compared to the vast rift.

As if to confirm Chu Xiu’s speculation, even after half a minute, the number of abyss creatures pouring out not only didn’t decrease but was gradually increasing!

On the other side, more than half of the anti-aircraft firepower had been consumed, with depleted ammunition and overheated barrels needing a longer time to replenish!

More and more abyss creatures were breaking through the fire blockade, spreading across the entire sky like a locust plague from the center of the rift!

”Are we about to have a melee battle?”

Chu Xiu frowned, recalling unpleasant memories.

In most Abyss invasions, the military could control the situation immediately, and even if some abyss creatures got through, casualties rarely exceeded double digits.

In his memory, only once did it escalate to the point where an entire city was lost.

That was the King Tier Abyss invasion that occurred when he was a child, where over 100,000 people died, a situation endured purely with human lives until reinforcements arrived.

And it was from then on that Zhang Qingshan made the grand vow to completely drive out the abyss creatures.

Not just him, but every family shattered by that disaster must have had similar intentions.

”Will as many people die this time as well?” Chu Xiu’s brow briefly furrowed.

But he quickly shook his head in denial: ”No, the defense firepower in Jiang City is much stronger now than it was eleven years ago. After the end of the Dark Chaos, the human world developed rapidly, with significant changes even in just three years.”

Moreover, the Awakened have been expanding rapidly. At that time, there were only two King Tier individuals in Jiang City, but now there are as many as fourteen!

Although most of the Awakened spend their time in the Abyss, it’s unclear how many are currently in Jiang City, but it shouldn’t be fewer than five.

At this point, three King Tiers have already arrived, floating in mid-air, coldly watching the distant rift.

Even with the arrival of King Tiers, there was still some unease in Chu Xiu’s heart. He squinted his eyes, and with terrifying vision, he could see every hair of the distant abyss creatures clearly, even from several kilometers away.

He noticed that only creatures of Warrior Tier and above had flying abilities, but those Mortal Tier creatures, which made up the vast majority, didn’t foolishly fall to their deaths from high altitude. Instead, they descended, gliding like bats with a thin membrane of flesh.

It was almost like... they had specifically prepared for this attack.

”Something’s not right. In the disaster eleven years ago, the rift opened only a dozen meters above the ground, and previous rifts mostly opened from the ground! Because most creatures couldn’t fly, those appearing from such heights would be smashed into pulp!”

”But if there were countermeasures, opening the rift at high altitudes could indeed significantly increase the breakout advantage!”
