The Way of Restraint

Wen Ting was now engaging in deep cultivation, influencing the company’s lower and middle management through his charisma, the upper management through his status as Liu Shi’s prospective son-in-law, advancing step by step. Combined with his outstanding abilities and the immense power behind him, perhaps it wouldn’t take ten years, maybe three to five, before he could seize control of Hedao Group.

Originally, Su Jie had estimated he would need ten years.

But seeing how the middle managers in this department treated him, that timeline would be greatly shortened.

Hearing the disrespect in Su Jie’s tone, everyone in the department glared at him with hostility.

The female professional who had spoken up was practically interrogating him.

But at that moment, Wen Ting raised his hand: “Meeting adjourned for now. Go attend to your respective tasks. I’ll discuss the chairman’s security matters with Su Jie here.”

With a single command, none of the middle managers dared disobey, they all filed out.

In an instant, the office was left with just Su Jie and Wen Ting.

Wen Ting stood up. “Would you like some water? Let me pour you a glass.”

“No need.” Su Jie waved his hand, staring at Wen Ting with a knowing gaze. “Wen Ting, that stone you threw the other day was truly formidable, it nearly killed me. Your hidden weapon techniques are extraordinary. How about we have a match?”

“What are you talking about?” Wen Ting’s expression didn’t change. “I don’t understand a word. Su Jie, you didn’t come all this way just to say such nonsense, did you?”

“This is anything but nonsense.” Su Jie knew Wen Ting wouldn’t admit anything. He was just trying to stir things up, to flush the snake out of hiding so it could be dealt with. “There’s no point in denying it, Wen Ting. The stone you threw at me had your DNA on it, it’s already been tested and confirmed to match yours.”

“What stone? Let me see it?” Wen Ting was utterly unconcerned, as if he had anticipated this all along.

“The truth is, your level of cultivation is extremely profound and unfathomable. Someone at your level shouldn’t need to resort to such underhanded tactics. You could openly work for Hedao Group, climb the ladder step by step, and eventually seize power. But you had to go and play with other people’s emotions, that’s going too far. I can’t just stand by and watch,” Su Jie said, laying it all out.

“Mr. Su Jie, you came to my department early in the morning, interrupted my meeting, and then started spewing this inexplicable nonsense at me. If you keep this up, I’ll have to call security,” Wen Ting remained completely composed.

“Sorry, but I’m in charge of all security at Hedao Group,” Su Jie said. “I have full authority over Mr. Liu Shi’s safety, and his family’s safety as well. I didn’t come here expecting you to admit anything, and I don’t intend to keep arguing with you. I just need to take you down and hand you over to Interpol. I’m sure they can dig up some criminal records on you. You might be able to hide your identity from others, but you can’t hide it from me.”

“It seems the chairman has hired a bodyguard who’s not quite in his right mind,” Wen Ting sighed and shook his head. “I may have come back from abroad, but from studying overseas, to working on Wall Street, to doing finance in S City, to joining Hedao Group, I’ve always been law-abiding. I’ve never done anything illegal. I’d like to know how I’ve offended you, to make you slander me again and again.”

“I find you very interesting.” Su Jie waved his hand. “All this talk is meaningless. Let’s settle this with action. I’d rather wrongly kill than let slip, and in your case, it wouldn’t be wrong at all.”

Whoosh!

Su Jie moved.

He closed in on Wen Ting in an instant, his leg already lashing out.

This kick was aimed directly at Wen Ting’s knee, intending to shatter the joint, vicious and ruthless.

Knee injuries cause permanent damage. Even a martial arts master, if their knee is compromised, will lose at least ninety-nine percent of their skill.

All martial arts power originates in the legs. Without a leg, none of the techniques can be executed, like a machine missing a vital component.

Su Jie was indeed striking hard. He didn’t believe Wen Ting could keep up the act. If Wen Ting insisted on pretending, fine! He’d just cripple one of his legs.

This was a snap kick, like a spring-loaded razor. The instant it launched, the leg cutting through the air produced a sharp crack.

At Su Jie’s level, a single kick could snap a tree trunk, let alone a human knee.

Bang!

In that instant, Wen Ting finally moved. He absolutely wouldn’t let Su Jie destroy his knee.

Moreover, someone at Su Jie’s level was no match for any ordinary expert, he was extremely difficult to deal with. Even a titan like Zhang Hongqing hadn’t managed to kill Su Jie.

Besides, Su Jie was now far stronger than he had been when he fought Zhang Hongqing.

If he were to face Zhang Hongqing again, though he still couldn’t win, he certainly wouldn’t be so badly overwhelmed.

Wen Ting’s movement was indeed fast, with a single foot shift, he magically dodged the kick. Su Jie’s foot struck a chair instead, smashing it to pieces.

“The Magic Step?” Su Jie recognized Wen Ting’s footwork, it was Odell’s Magic Step. This further confirmed his identity, he was definitely a formidable figure trained by Typhon Training Camp.

Wen Ting didn’t respond. He turned again, moving like a phantom, appearing beside Su Jie and extending his hand, his finger already pointing at Su Jie’s spinal joint. With a single vibration, he could paralyze Su Jie completely.

Wen Ting had also developed murderous intent toward Su Jie.

“What? Finally can’t hold back, showing killing intent?” Su Jie said. “So all our talk was pointless. There was no need to keep babbling, we should have just fought from the start. Saves time.”

As he spoke, he twisted his body left and right, dodging Wen Ting’s attacks while countering.

Whoosh!

A flash of inhuman red light seemed to pass through Wen Ting’s eyes. He suddenly lunged, his hands snaking in from both sides, a technique resembling the snake-hand form from traditional martial arts.

As his arms extended and retracted, his whole body followed, moving with incredible speed. It felt as though he wasn’t moving with his feet at all, but rather with the contracting power of his muscles, swimming through the air like a sea snake hunting.

Every time his arm moved, a hissing sound emanated.

His fingers were slightly hooked, using techniques of striking, poking, hooking, grabbing, and tearing, very similar to Su Jie’s “Hoe Strike” technique.

His fighting style had far more variations than Feng Hengyi’s.

Feng Hengyi’s attacks were repetitive straight thrusts. Wen Ting’s techniques were endlessly varied, every move different, impossible to predict what would come next.

Bang!

Wen Ting’s hand darted toward Su Jie’s eyes. As Su Jie blocked, Wen Ting abruptly dropped and struck his abdomen. Su Jie raised his knee to block, but Wen Ting shifted again and struck Su Jie’s waist with his hip bone.

Su Jie was startled, he hadn’t expected Wen Ting to be so formidable, nearly reaching the realm described in old boxing manuals: “Every part of the body is a hand, strike wherever you touch.”

In an instant, Wen Ting attacked with hands, feet, elbows, knees, shoulders, hips, buttocks, abdomen, head, ribs… Every part of his body could attack his opponent, ever-changing.

The moment Su Jie made contact with his body, Wen Ting would neutralize him and counterattack.

And the counterattacks were definitely not modern combat or military fighting techniques, they were pure, authentic traditional martial arts.

Su Jie’s “Hoe Strike” Heart-Mind Intent boxing also allowed full-body attacks, once in contact with an opponent, he could tear and rend like a berserker.

But recently, he had rarely encountered this kind of traditional combat style. Caught off guard, he was nearly overwhelmed, fortunately, his footwork was fast, he had come prepared, and he was familiar with the viciousness of traditional martial arts.

Moreover, he sensed that Wen Ting wasn’t using his full strength, he was still hiding something.

Bang!

The two exchanged blows, their fists, legs, and bodies colliding repeatedly, each finding the other hard as iron and steel.

The desks and furniture that came into contact with their bodies shattered.

Both were among the strongest in the world, their bodies at the “exceptional” level. Even world-class fighters couldn’t compare, every movement carried tremendous power.

“If this drags on, I can’t be sure of the outcome.” Su Jie suddenly disengaged, staring intently at Wen Ting, ready to use his trump card.

Wen Ting also stopped, still the epitome of gentility, his clothes perfectly neat, no sign he’d even moved, except for the office in complete disarray.

Wen Ting spoke: “Stop. You’re no match for me. Though your skill is strong, you’re still lacking, you haven’t reached the realm of Divine Transformation and Spiritual Penetration. I was holding back just now, couldn’t you tell? If you keep pestering me, I’ll have no choice.”

“I was holding back too,” Su Jie said coldly. “If you were so confident, you wouldn’t have used hidden weapons when I was fighting Feng Hengyi.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Wen Ting would never reveal a single word to Su Jie, nor show any weakness. “I have work to do. I hope you won’t disrupt things here. If you want to fight, wait until after work, I’ll gladly play with you.”

“I’m also working,” Su Jie said. “This fight has conclusively proven one thing: you come from Typhon Training Camp, that evil organization. Otherwise, even with the best combat training in the world, you wouldn’t have this level of skill.”

“By that logic, you’re even more suspicious,” Wen Ting remained unruffled, calm as ever. “You’re so young, not even twenty.”
