Chapter 2157: Chapter 2158: The Unmemorable Symbol

Without Frode explaining, Angel also understands that the external assistance he refers to naturally means the group of wizards in the Wilderness of Dreams. It can be said that once there is the Wilderness of Dreams, many complex and difficult problems that cannot be solved by oneself can be resolved immediately using this method.

Angel gestures to Frode to wait on the altar while he enters the Wilderness of Dreams to inquire.

With the emergence of the Dream Bridge, when Angel opens his eyes again, he is already in the single room on the second floor of the Glorious Cathedral in Originheart City.

Angel came to the Glorious Cathedral to find Nis.

Originally, he most wanted to find his mentor Sanders, but Sanders has not logged into the Wilderness of Dreams in recent days. As for why Nis was the second choice, it’s mainly because Lady Cilla lives in a cave, which contains an abnormal amount of death aura, and Nis is the most knowledgeable about death aura and the undead. He might know something.

Angel pushes open the single room door and walks along the long corridor, all the way to the front hall of the Glorious Cathedral.

Upon arriving here, Angel sees Nis sitting next to a beautiful girl.

The girl has her eyes closed, hands clasped in a posture of devout prayer.

Although Nis also appears to be praying, Angel knows clearly that the vast majority of official wizards have no faith; Nis’s prayers definitely have ulterior motives.

Sure enough, Angel observes for less than a minute before Nis secretly opens his eyes, glancing slyly at the girl beside him, with uncertain thoughts, occasionally making swallowing motions.

Without a doubt, Nis was in the cathedral for the girl.

Angel lets out a sigh and slightly moves his mouth.

The gentle wind carries quiet whispers into Nis’s ear.

Nis pauses, as if he hears someone calling his name. He hesitantly raises his head to look, and sees someone standing on the second-floor balcony of the cathedral, it is Angel.

After a while, Angel and Nis sit across from each other in the single room on the cathedral’s second floor.

”I was somewhat surprised when I confirmed the wizard Nis was in the Glorious Cathedral. I wondered why you were here. I didn’t realize you had ulterior motives.”

Faced with Angel’s half-smiling expression, Nis doesn’t conceal and says frankly, ”Little Duo Ya is a filial child; she comes here every day to pray for her parents.”

Duo Ya refers to the beautiful girl, who was brought into the Wilderness of Dreams by Frode. She has already died due to illness in reality, but her parents are still alive. So, Duo Ya comes to the cathedral every day to pray for her parents.

Nis wants to woo Duo Ya, so naturally he starts with what matters most to her. He follows her into the cathedral, pretending to pray and chatting her up.

Today is already the sixth day Nis has come to the cathedral.

Nis excitedly recounts his experiences to Angel with a tone of smugness.

Angel listens to the gossip and, without giving Nis a chance to express further ’comments’, decisively changes the subject: ”I came here this time because there’s an update on Little Sem’s matter.”

Upon hearing it concerns Little Sem, the floating gaze in Nis’s eyes instantly becomes focused: ”Timing-wise, Little Sem’s test should be finished? What was the outcome?”

Angel does not show favoritism and recounts Little Sem’s performance clearly.

Little Sem’s ability to find the library and calm his mind to read shows he tried hard; finding a way to deal with the half-human, half-spider body in the library indicates that he not only tried hard but also had some luck; facing Lady Cilla realistically without fear and taking risks to probe her proves he is thoughtful; grabbing the fleeting opportunity after probing Lady Cilla’s weakness and launching a counterattack without hesitation represents his courage.

Angel thus paints a picture of a hard-working, courageous, intelligent, and slightly lucky Little Sem.

The only shortcoming is that Little Sem did not land a final blow to kill Lady Cilla; it was delegated to Frode, but this was only due to Little Sem’s lack of experience, which is not a big deal.

After hearing Angel’s recounting, Nis’s eyes become brighter, showing that he is also satisfied with Little Sem’s performance.

However, whether Nis will send Little Sem a regular invitation or a golden one, Angel does not ask. This suspense is left for Little Sem to uncover when he reaches the Barbarian Cave.

After discussing Little Sem’s matter, Angel continues seamlessly with Lady Cilla’s story, extending to the altar underground.

Nis didn’t expect there was such a story behind Lady Cilla.

After hearing it, he mumbles lowly: ”Three hundred and sixty caverns, each with a seated skeleton... The altar has thirty-six levels, indeed sounds like ceremonial standards.”

”I have no research on ceremonies, I can’t help you there.”

Angel wasn’t too disappointed. Wizards studying ritual studies in the Southern Domain are already scarce; ceremonies are more prevalent in the Eastern Realm.

Nis can’t help with the ceremony; however, Angel’s primary inquiry this time is not the ceremony, but about the symbol.

Angel wants to know if Nis has ever seen this symbol.

Nis nods: ”Sure, draw it out and I’ll take a look.”

Angel certainly doesn’t plan to really draw it but intends to use illusion to present it. However, just as he’s lifting his hand to unleash the illusion, he suddenly... freezes.

Nis, seeing Angel pause in confusion, asks strangely: ”What’s wrong?”

Angel slowly lowers his hand, his expression a little odd: ”I’ve somewhat forgotten the shape of that symbol.”

Angel only remembers the symbol’s outer circle is a concentric circle, with a standard ceremonial hexagon inside, but what’s the shape of the symbol inside the hexagon? As soon as he tries to recall, he finds his mind blank.

Nis initially thought Angel was joking, but seeing Angel’s expression becoming more serious, he realizes the latter is not joking.

”With an official wizard’s memory, it’s impossible to suddenly forget something seen a moment ago.” Nis: ”This situation is abnormal.”

Angel now clearly understands that Nis is right. Though not a complex symbol, he still can’t recall it, which is definitely not natural.

The symbol has issues!

But even understanding the problem with the symbol, now how to solve it? He can’t recall it or present it.

Angel ponders for a moment: ”I’ll return to reality and take another look. I didn’t specifically memorize it previously; this time I’ll carefully memorize it to see if that helps.”

With that, Angel’s figure vanishes.

Nis silently stands up after a moment, and walks outside. As he walks, he lowly mutters to himself: ”The fact the symbol can’t be recalled is bizarre... Since it can’t be analyzed through the symbol, it can only be approached from the ceremony itself, and I should go ask Granny.”

On the other side, Angel returns to reality, immediately greeted by Frode’s expectant gaze.

Angel shakes his head and informs Frode about being unable to recall the symbol.

After speaking, Angel again focuses his sight on the symbol on the ground.

As he looks at the symbol, it doesn’t possess any transcendent properties, but when he closes his eyes trying to recall the symbol’s details in his mind, he immediately forgets.

Angel no longer needs to enter the Wilderness of Dreams again and has determined that solely relying on memory is definitely useless.

Frode also realizes this at this moment. He hesitates for a bit and then takes out paper and pen from his spatial necklace, attempting to record the symbol through drawing.

The drawing can indeed be done, but when the symbol is drawn, the white paper instantly turns to powder.

”Is it because the medium isn’t strong enough?” Angel pondered for a moment and took out a piece of Chaos Drum Beast parchment from his bracelet. This is a very high-grade parchment with built-in arcane nullification effects, useful for practicing the drawing of magic patterns without risking the paper’s explosion, though the patterns drawn have no actual effect.

Angel thought, since ordinary paper couldn’t carry the symbol, he might as well switch to the Chaos Drum Beast parchment with arcane nullification effects.

Frode took the Chaos Drum Beast parchment and started drawing again.

This time, the drawing went very smoothly, the symbol was completely recorded, and there was no paper explosion.

Just when Frode thought he had succeeded, the symbol slowly faded from the Chaos Drum Beast parchment, as if it had been drawn with colorless water and vanished as soon as the water dried.

Seeing this, Frode sighed helplessly... another failure.

Silent stillness spread through the air.

After a long time, Frode spoke: ”There must be a way to carry the symbol, otherwise how did the one who drew the symbol manage it? Maybe a specific type of parchment is needed?”

Frode’s guess had a certain logic, but proving it was difficult. No one knew which type of parchment, and possibly other special conditions were needed, such as specific ceremonies, specific bloodlines, or even specific people.

Under such circumstances, it was nearly impossible to conduct experiments one by one.

The situation reached an impasse.

Just when they were at a loss, Angel’s gaze caught the Chaos Drum Beast parchment in Frode’s hand... a flash of inspiration struck his mind.

The reason Frode recorded the symbol on the parchment was to aid memory. What would be the next step if it were successfully recorded?

Without a doubt, the answer was to bring the parchment into the Wilderness of Dreams.

And how to bring the parchment into the Wilderness of Dreams? It would certainly involve the Dream Conch from Moonlit Coast.

Since the Dream Conch is used, why not directly use it to bring the stone slab with the symbol into the Wilderness of Dreams?

The Dream Conch is a mysterious object that defies all rules, except that it doesn’t apply to other mysterious objects and living organisms; everything else can be drawn into the Wilderness of Dreams. Even the laws and veins of the Witchcraft Garden can manifest in the Wilderness of Dreams!

Angel refused to believe that this symbol could overpower the Dream Conch!

Angel acted on his thought, taking out the Geometric Lock and Dream Conch. First, he activated the Geometric Lock to contain the spread of the mysterious aura, then began to activate the Dream Conch.

With a flash of light on the stone slab on the ground, the Dream Conch returned to calm.

”I’ll check again inside.” Angel informed Frode, then closed his eyes.

When he opened his eyes again, he was back in a single room on the second floor of the Glorious Cathedral.

At that moment, the room was already empty.

”Huh, where did Nis go?” Angel muttered, but didn’t mind, deciding to search later. For now, the most important thing was the stone slab with the inscribed symbol.

Angel had placed the stone slab on the desk in the room.

Step by step, Angel moved towards the desk, his gaze slowly falling on the slab.

Upon seeing the familiar twisting symbol appear on the slab, Angel’s eyes lit up suddenly.

Success!

The mysterious object’s disregard for rules overcame the symbol’s inherent conditions!

The symbol, which previously couldn’t be inscribed or memorized, really was drawn into the Wilderness of Dreams through the Dream Conch!

After a moment of excitement, Angel began to search for Nis.

Soon, Angel pinpointed Nis’ location.

”Huh, why did he go to the Marine Theater?” Angel cast his gaze towards the theater, suddenly realizing through God’s View: ”So Ironclad Granny is there?”

This symbol, Angel didn’t think Nis would know, and originally planned to bring the slab to see Tree Spirit or Lord Reine, among other knowledgeable wizards. The second entry into the Wilderness of Dreams was mainly to convey a connection to Nis.

Since Nis was now with Ironclad Granny, Angel was spared from searching further.

Reine and Tree Spirit both held Ironclad Granny in great respect, and her knowledge was undoubtedly top-tier.

Angel grabbed the stone slab and hurriedly headed towards the Marine Theater.

...

As soon as he entered the theater, a melodious piano melody echoed over.

Angel recognized the name of the piano piece from the tune: ”Adelina at the Water’s Edge.”

This is a piece from Earth, composed by Jon. Yet the current performance, though smooth enough in its flow, had a somewhat stammering rhythm, indicating that Jon wasn’t the one playing.

Angel’s gaze fell on the theater’s large stage, where Jon stood beside the piano, while the pianist was a shy-faced Adar.

As for why Adar was shy... it’s because there were people in the audience.

Ironclad Granny and Nis were sitting in the audience at that moment.

Although they might not be paying attention to Adar’s performance, the mere presence of them gave Adar significant pressure. Barely managing his shyness, he completed the piano piece.

After Adar finished playing, Angel clapped his hands, nodding in acknowledgment to Adar.

Adar’s previous tension slowly faded under Angel’s applause, revealing a bashful smile as he stood next to Jon, waiting for his mentor’s comments - as he was currently in a piano lesson.

Angel exchanged a glance with Jon, using lip language to indicate he was looking for Ironclad Granny. Jon nodded, didn’t say much, and led Adar and Shanni backstage.

Angel walked over to the audience seats and sat beside Ironclad Granny.

Upon seeing Angel, Nis said, ”You came just in time; after some pondering, since the symbol couldn’t be remembered, why not start with the ritual, as Granny happens to have studied rituals.”

”I explained the ritual situation to Granny, and based on current conditions, it can be reasonably determined that this is a sacrificial ritual. Moreover, the object of worship was likely not a Demon God or Evil God, but there is a high probability it’s an Alien Clan.”

”It’s just that the symbol can’t be memorized, so for now, it’s unknown which Alien Clan or what the sacrificial ritual aims to achieve.”

In Nis’ expression of regret, Angel whispered, ”It’s fine, I brought the symbol this time.”
