Fate's Slave - Shadow Slave X Honkai Star Rail

Time passed in a way that felt both compressed and stretched, the boundaries between minutes and hours blurring beneath the relentless rhythm of creation. Sunny did not stop once the first Transcendent Memory settled into his Soul Sea, nor did he allow himself the luxury of rest, because momentum, once lost, was difficult to reclaim. Instead, he continued, refining his process, testing the limits of his control, and pushing forward with a singular focus that consumed everything else.

By the time he finally paused, nine hours had passed.

Six of those had been spent on the Transcendent armor alone, every thread, every node of Spellweave, every carved detail demanding attention that could not be rushed or approximated. The remaining three had been devoted to additional creations.

The first of these took the form of a pair of delicate charms, shaped like petals that shifted in color from a cool, tranquil blue to a deep, smoldering red. Their design was deceptively simple, yet the enchantment woven into them carried a familiar principle. Inspired by the Patient Avenger, they absorbed heat from their surroundings, storing it within their structure until it could be released in a controlled burst, a shockwave of energy that could be triggered at will.

The second charm followed a different philosophy.

Taking the form of elegant hairpins, their Spellweave was based on the Silk Shroud. When activated, they produced a translucent layer that settled over any armor worn by the user, reinforcing its structure and increasing its durability without altering its fundamental properties. It was a defensive enhancement, subtle yet effective, designed to complement rather than replace.

The weapon, however, was something else entirely.

Sunny had not started with raw materials for this one, instead pulling a preexisting object from his collection — a fan, simple in design yet sturdy enough to serve as a foundation. What he created from it, however, was far from ordinary. The edges were sharpened through enchantment rather than physical alteration, allowing it to cut with precision despite its unconventional form, while the primary effect drew some inspiration from the Broken Oath.

It was not a constant assault on the soul. That would be too dangerous.

Instead, he adapted it.

A single wave of the fan would unleash a focused attack upon the mind, instead, a burst rather than a sustained effect, sacrificing persistence for immediacy. It was not perfect, nor was it complete in the way true originality would have required, but it was functional, and more importantly, it was his.

That was the extent of what he could achieve for now.

Without a teacher, without guidance beyond his own observations and the fragmented logic provided by [The War], Sunny could not create enchantments from nothing. What he could do, however, was dissect, analyze, and reconstruct. He could take existing principles, break them apart, and rearrange them into something new, even if the underlying truth behind them remained just out of reach.

It was not mastery.

But it was progress.

With the work complete, Sunny exhaled slowly, the tension in his shoulders easing just slightly as he allowed himself a brief moment to acknowledge the results of his effort. Then, without further delay, he reached inward once more.

Tingyun answered his call again.

She emerged from shadow as she had before, her form coalescing into existence with the same fluid grace, yet this time, there was a difference.

She was no longer simply clothed in the Puppeteer’s Shroud.

Now, she wore what he had created.

The hanfu was heavily modified when compared to how one usually looked, its elegance preserved yet elevated into something far more intricate. Layers of red, black, and gold flowed seamlessly together, the fabric shifting with a life of its own as though it responded to unseen currents. The outer layers were darker, closer to black, absorbing light in a way that complemented her shadowed form, while the inner lining carried a deep crimson hue that revealed itself with each movement, creating a striking contrast.

Gold accents traced along the edges, subtle yet deliberate, reinforcing the structure without overwhelming it. The sleeves were long and flowing, yet tailored in a way that allowed for unrestricted movement, while the overall silhouette balanced grace with practicality, ensuring that it was as functional as it was visually striking.

Around her waist rested the most prominent feature.

The boney stone.

Carved and refined, it had taken the form of an ornate sash-like belt with a flowery design, its pale surface gleaming faintly like polished gold. It anchored the entire outfit, both physically and conceptually, its presence tying together the layered design while housing the core of the Transcendent Memory’s power.

The charms completed the ensemble.

The twin petals hovered subtly near her waist, their shifting colors pulsing faintly as they absorbed ambient heat, while the hairpins nestled within her dark hair, their presence almost invisible until the faint shimmer of their enchantment revealed itself.

Even the fan rested in her hand, its surface catching the light as she held it with an ease that suggested familiarity.

Tingyun twirled.

The motion was smooth, unhurried, her sleeves and layered garments flowing outward before settling back into place as she came to a stop. There was a clear satisfaction in her expression, a quiet pride that did not need to be spoken aloud.

”How does it look, Benefactor?”

Sunny tilted his head slightly, his gaze moving over her form with the same analytical precision he applied to everything else.

”Well, it isn’t bad for my first serious work.”

Tingyun blinked.

”Huh?”

Sunny continued without pause, his tone shifting into something more critical as his thoughts aligned with the flaws he had already identified.

”The enchantments were too basic. The self-repair function that I copied from the Mantle is not ineffective, but I could not find a way to optimize it without leaving two nodes unused. I chose high fire resistance to synergize with your Aspect, but there was not enough room to incorporate proper defenses against soul or mind-based attacks. Overall, it is functional, but I would expect more from a Transcendent Memory.”

Tingyun stared at him for a moment, her expression shifting into something that hovered between confusion and mild disbelief.

”...Benefactor, I was asking about how I look.”

Sunny’s expression faltered slightly, the realization settling in with a subtle delay as he processed her words.

Then he made a face.

Tingyun, however, was already adapting.

Remembering his Flaw, she adjusted her approach, her smile turning softer, sweeter, as she tilted her head ever so slightly.

”Well? How do I look?”

Sunny glared.

For a brief moment, there was resistance.

Then, inevitably, the Flaw asserted itself.

So, playing along, he twisted his words into something far less appropriate, a lecherous grin spreading across his face as the words forced themselves out.

”Actually, I think you would look a lot better without that flowery thing on your chest — that is not a suggestion!”

He recoiled almost immediately, his body reacting before his mind could fully catch up as Tingyun’s hand instinctively moved toward her chest, her expression flickering with something that could only be described as disappointment.

Disappointment in his character, most likely.

Sunny raised his hands slightly, as though that would somehow undo what he had just said.

She simply sent him a pitiful look.

”Maybe consider putting a little more tact into your words, then.”

Then, with a small sigh, she tapped her own arm, her fingers brushing against the pitch-black surface of her skin.

”Ah, but it is too bad. No offense, but I much prefer my actual skin over... well, whatever this is meant to be.”

She gestured vaguely at herself, the motion casual yet pointed.

”It is just too out of place.”

Sunny tilted his head again, considering her words with a level of seriousness that might have seemed excessive to an outside observer.

Then he shrugged.

He understood, to an extent.

But at the same time, he did not.

Where Tingyun found discomfort in her altered form, Sunny found familiarity in shadows.

To him, this was not strange.

It was natural.

With a quiet exhale, he turned away, his attention already shifting back toward his work as he began the process anew, the shadows around him responding to his will as he prepared to create again.

Behind him, Tingyun twirled once more, her satisfaction returning as she admired the flowing layers of her new attire, her movements light, almost playful.

And for a brief moment, despite everything else, there was a sense of quiet contentment in the room.
