Chapter 1752: Chapter 598: Revealing One’s True Colors in Public, The Return Journey (Part 4)

Although she had already planned to stand firm, she couldn’t help but feel a bit uneasy inside.

Just then, a message popped up in the DingTalk work group.

[Content Director - Bai Rui: ”@everyone, meeting in the conference room.”]

Zhang Yan instantly tensed up, took a deep breath, and stood up.

The entire content department, including her and Lulu, only had eight people in total.

The atmosphere in the conference room was somewhat tense, with many people secretly glancing at Zhang Yan.

After all, what happened yesterday afternoon, Bai Rui shouted so loudly, it had already spread throughout the company.

No one expected that someone as honest as Zhang Yan could be so tough.

”Squeak—” The conference room door was pushed open, and Bai Rui’s chubby figure walked in.

His expression was serious, and his gloomy gaze first swept over Zhang Yan before sitting down at the front.

The air in the conference room instantly became even more oppressive.

Zhang Yan sat in the corner, feeling somewhat restless.

In such a setting, being the focal point of everyone, facing her direct supervisor, there was still some deep-rooted timidity inside her.

”Alright, let’s start the meeting.” Bai Rui cleared his throat and placed the laptop on the table.

Everyone quickly straightened up, eyes fixed forward.

Bai Rui said: ”First, a new rule: from today onwards, everyone must submit a work report to me before leaving work each day, detailing all completed work content, progress, and time spent! Ensure work saturation!”

These words caused an oppressive, faint sound of gasping in the conference room. Work reports are the most typical form of employee torment, tedious and pointless.

At most, it is just to let the big bosses see and think that he, the director, is managing well.

Bai Rui paused and then shifted his tone: ”Secondly, let’s discuss the business project ’Whale’s Fall at Sea’. Last week’s marketing conversion rate was very unsatisfactory! It didn’t even reach 60% of our KPI! The clients are already quite displeased!”

He projected a data report onto the screen, with several data points marked in red.

”Copywriting! Our copywriting has serious issues! It’s neither soft articles nor recommendations, lacking any attraction! Users simply aren’t buying it! Zhang Yan, report to us. As the main writer for this project, explain to us why the numbers look so bad. How exactly are you doing your job?”

All eyes once again focused on Zhang Yan, full of sympathy and helplessness.

Everyone knows that marketing a book, copywriting is at most the lowest tier of importance; it’s the preliminary channel placement, mid-term promotional effort, and post-release reputation maintenance that mainly affect the final outcome.

Bai Rui’s words clearly intended to pin all the blame on Zhang Yan.

Zhang Yan’s face turned a bit pale in an instant, taking a deep breath, and slowly stood up.

After a moment of silence, she said: ”Director Bai, the project’s positioning was flawed from the start, and the marketing budget was cut in half midway...”

She had not finished talking.

Bai Rui slammed the table loudly and glared at her with oppressive eyes, ”I asked you to come here, not to pass the buck!”

Seeing Zhang Yan’s appearance, he felt a sense of satisfaction.

Just then.

The conference room door suddenly opened.

HR Chen Min popped her head in, wearing an excited and nervous expression, ”Bai Rui, come out for a moment!”

Bai Rui was interrupted, showing a trace of displeasure, but still followed her out.

”What’s up?”

Chen Min lowered her voice and quickly said: ”Stop the meeting! Quickly get your people back to their stations! President Wang of Star Cloud International Group is about to visit our company; it’s extremely important! Quickly get the employees to refocus, work hard, and show off! This is crucial for next year’s projects!”

Bai Rui’s eye twitched, shocked: ”President Wang?! Which President Wang?”

”Who else could it be? The general manager of the Yang City branch, President Wang Chongxian!”

Shu Cheng Technology, as a secondary agent in Star Cloud International Group’s large marketing ecosystem, is completely dependent on them.

All of their core media resources and top KOL cooperation opportunities come from Star Cloud International.

Moreover, many of the projects they handle are the leftovers, the outsourced ”dirty and tiring tasks” from Star Cloud International.

And this President Wang Chongxian is their biggest ”parent client”.

The company has been established for so many years, and previously only some business managers occasionally came for inspection.

No one expected President Wang Chongxian to come personally today!

Bai Rui’s face instantly turned red, ”Alright! I got it!”

He quickly returned to the conference room and loudly announced, ”Today’s meeting will end here! Everyone pay attention, an extremely important partner is about to visit. Everyone! Immediately refocus and show our best spirit!”

Everyone in the conference room exchanged glances, then realized the seriousness of the situation and got up to leave.

Zhang Yan stood there, lips pressed tightly, breathing slightly hurried.

The humiliation from earlier, being embarrassed publicly, still lingered in her heart.

Lulu grabbed her hand, cursing softly in solidarity: ”Don’t take it to heart, that fat loser just bullies the weak and fears the strong. See him acting like a lap dog now. Once I join Star Cloud International Group, someday, I’m going to make him beg us on his knees.”

As if visualizing the triumphant scene, Lulu spoke more spiritedly, her eyes flashing with excitement and anticipation.
