Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 4502: Eve Of The Ten-Year Period

The Forty-Eight Lower Realms were unusually silent this day.

Nearly every important person and even most peasants knew that this day marked the eve of the ten-year period of the Covenant. It came so quickly, but it blotted out the skies and shrouded their hearts in fear. Nearly every Realm Master was panicking in their hearts, seated on their thrones with solemn expressions on their faces.

It was unknown what the Divine Emperor of Death would actually do.

Although he claimed to be a pacifist, who would believe the words of an Anarchic Divergent?

Still, they had no choice but to prepare themselves and wait for the eventual doom of their entire power, just like how the Verdant Vale Sect was uprooted, the Ghostly Crow Clan and the Whispering Wildlands Peninsula were conquered.

”It’s time we bid farewell.”

In a secluded mountain valley, a white-robed man with wolf ears and a tail stood behind a jade-robed woman who looked as though she was about to fly away. Her voice was unusually soft, filled with forbidden emotions.

The man was just wearing his robe after a hot, passionate session when he looked stunned after hearing what the woman had to say.

However, his expression calmed, ”Is there no other way, Leora?”

”...” Leora Verlight’s shoulder shook.

She was none other than the Starlight Jade Wolf Clan’s Matriarch.

She turned to look at her lover, her eyes moist, ”We are not fated to be, Fenren~”

Fenren Jadelight’s heart sank.

He knew this was an impossible ask, so when it was time, why did he feel so pained?

Their illicit affair blossomed over five years ago. It wasn’t like the Starlight Jade Wolf Clan’s Matriarch was married, but as the Matriarch, she shouldn’t be having relations with a Divergent or someone from the Divergent’s power. She had doomed herself, yet there was only a wistful smile on her face.

It only pained him more, making him think he should not have involved himself with her.

However, what could he do?

He was curious about her, and she was also curious. When he met her secretly one day, they fought, but the emotions between them sparked just like that, making them have many secret rendezvous.

However, it was finally time... to end it.

The ten-year period of the Covenant’s initial rule was coming to an end, and that meant the scrutiny was going to be much higher. Even today, they were nearly caught but had still come out to meet.

”Leora, forget fate. Would you really not come with me?” Fenren extended his hand out.

He hoped that she would take it.

However, Matriarch Leora Verlight shook her head. Her frail body trembled as she bit her lips, turning to look into the horizon.

”I’m still the Matriarch. It isn’t like I can’t abandon such a position for you, but I cannot bring shame or humiliate the clan with my actions. Otherwise, I’ll... commit suicide.”

”No!”

Fenren raised his hands, ”Don’t ever do it. Even if we are found, don’t ever end yourself. I love you, Leora. You’re my woman, so you need to listen to me. Just wait for me, I’ll come take you away one day with an influence that can’t be brushed away!”

”Still so selfish...”

Leora Verlight trembled, but this time, it was a light giggle. She finally smiled at him, ”I won’t die easily. In this life, you’re my only man. You don’t need to worry about both, lovely saint pup.”

”Don’t say pup...” Fenren wryly chuckled, ”But don’t die. I know you’re prideful, but no, just don’t do it. I will flatten the Verlight Clan if you die.”

”You-” Leora Verlight fumed.

However, she couldn’t bring herself to chide him, knowing he was just trying to keep her out of harm’s way. She ran back to him, giving him one last hug, not wanting to be separated as she sniffled in his arms.

”You can’t flatten the Verlight Clan. You can’t die either. Will you stop following the Divine Emperor of Death and retreat to some backwater where you can stay safe? As long as you remain in this layer, no one can kill you.”

”...”

Fenren caressed her head, ”I can’t do that. He’s my one and only sworn brother whom I will follow to death.”

”You’re so hateful~” Leora Verlight trembled.

”I am.” Fenren chuckled, ”My brother will sooner or later head into the Upper Realms and conquer whoever stands in his way. You just watch- in a hundred or two hundred years, they will tremble before his feet. My feet, too, and then, you can feel more prideful.”

”You cheeky little pup~”

Leora Verlight pulled on his cheeks while Fenren had a smug expression on his face.

But soon, their expressions turned complicated as it was time to leave.

They bid farewell to each other before Fenren returned just in time when his sworn brother was about to set out.

Davis greeted him, but with a strange expression on his face, ”You leaked our secrets to your lover again?”

”Why would I?” Fenren chortled.

Davis grinned, ”Careful. There’s only so many times you can go to and fro before you’re caught. Stella won’t be able to help you anymore since she has to look after the entirety of the sanctuary after we leave. If you mess it up, you might even expose this place.”

”Hmm, I know. That’s why we bid farewell. I will only go after we make it big in the Upper Realms.”

”If it were only so easy...”

”You mean surviving in the Upper Realms?”

Davis shook his head, ”Suppressing one’s love. You’re bound to want to go meet her despite all odds, especially when I know you’re not the type to suppress yourself much.”

”...”

Fenren looked away, appearing embarrassed. However, he shook his head, ”Even I know not to endanger my family here even if I don’t care about you somehow, so don’t worry. I won’t act foolish. You have my word.”

”Don’t misunderstand. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t go. If at all, you can’t suppress your emotions, you can wait for Stella to be free before she helps you traverse. Just don’t go traversing the realms by yourself. You won’t die with your powers, but it’s dangerous for others if you get spotted and someone follows you.”

”Right.” Fenren agreed, ”I won’t be playful anymore since you’re leaving. You don’t worry too. I will protect this place with my life. It is our home too.”

”I’m depending on you all.”

Davis firmly nodded.

After leaving this place, he wouldn’t be able to protect them. Fortunately, his wives were too powerful. He could depend on Mingzhi and Tanya. Regardless, he didn’t want his wives to be on the frontline, so he was dependent on his three sworn brothers and the other forces. They were all Empyreans, so they would not be easily defeated.

The only internal problem he could think of was the Ant Overlord, who could revive his conqueror’s nature, but he didn’t think that would happen after he showed his prowess again, once again beating him to submission in a spar.

He had already talked to most of them before appearing at the entrance, so the only thing left was to set out.

He looked towards his entourage, who were ready to leave with him.

Evelynn, Nadia, Tia, Myria, Eterna, Celestia, and Lucian. All of them were at the peak of the Immortal Emperor Stage already. As for Azariel and Viridia, they had already gone ahead last year as they were unable to wait.
