Apocalypse Descent: Farming with My Harem

Chapter 1123: Chapter 397: Arrival at Merlin City, Cao Xing’s Network

At this moment, the middle-aged man being watched by everyone had a somewhat hesitant look on his face.

As a mercenary wandering from place to place, he naturally knew that someone who could produce tens of millions of notes at once was no ordinary person.

However, the temptation of so much money was indeed too great.

Seeing his indecision, others chimed in: ”Squad Leader, our Rust Mercenary Corps hasn’t had a job for several months. If we don’t take on some business, we will starve to death.”

”That’s right. By his appearance, he seems like one of those Otherworldly Lords.”

”These Otherworldly Lords appear to be quite weak, just perfect for us to make a move.”

”Let’s take the chance and hit him!”

At this moment, the man in front seemed to have made up his mind after hearing the persuasions of the others.

”Alright, let’s hit him then!”

Upon hearing this, a smile appeared on the faces of the others in the scene.

The man continued,

”However, the direction this Otherworldly Lord is heading seems to be towards Merlin City, which means he most likely intends to exchange the money shop notes he has there.”

”Let’s not rush into action. We’ll follow him, wait until he has exchanged the money, then find an opportunity in the wild to rob him!”

The other mercenaries nodded solemnly upon hearing this.

...

...

Time swiftly passed by.

In the blink of an eye, three and a half hours had passed.

They had traveled continuously for more than four hundred kilometers.

The distance to that city on the map was getting closer and closer.

This made Cao Xing somewhat excited and a bit nervous.

To be honest, this was also his first time heading to a city where humans gathered in this world.

Dorun Lake City was not truly a gathering place in essence.

After all, when they entered, all the people in that city had been slaughtered.

And now, he’s heading to Merlin City, which is truly a major human settlement in this world.

From afar, a magnificent city could be seen!

Cao Xing had already seen the towering black walls, easily twenty to thirty meters high and at least five to six meters thick, as indestructible as an iron Great Wall!

Encircling the entire Merlin City.

The diameter of this city was about six to seven kilometers.

Compared to Dorun Lake City, its scale was much smaller.

Yet, as one of the few human cities in the Gale Snow Plain, its importance was self-evident, and the human traffic inside was quite incredible.

Below the city walls was a grand and imposing gate towering over ten meters high.

At this moment, the city gate was open.

A large crowd of pedestrians and travelers bustled in and out, creating a lively scene.

There were those riding Forest Giant Wolves, those on Land Birds, and even some on Aquatic Giant Lizards...

The variety of exotic mounts was dizzying.

However, Cao Xing, riding a Mammoth, was the first of his kind.

Da Bai’s massive body and long tusks gave a strong sense of deterrence.

The mounts of nearby people even began to tremble upon Da Bai’s approach.

It was a form of life level suppression!

However, these people’s mounts, except for horses which had no offensive nature, were all uniformly placed near the beast stables by the walls.

Meanwhile, at the gate was a group of elegantly dressed young men, clearly the nobles’ offspring from the city.

Under them were various majestic mounts, including sleek, black stallions and agile snow leopards.

And the giant wolf there was theirs too.

However, seeing Cao Xing’s Mammoth, they couldn’t help but exclaim.

”Oh! By All Gods, are my eyes deceiving me? What am I seeing? Is that really a Mammoth!”

”Heavens, someone has actually managed to tame such a divine creature and use it as a mount.”

”The Forest Giant Wolf beneath me cost me 1.5 million crowns to capture, and hiring an expert-level Beast Tamer cost me another 500,000 crowns, but compared to this Mammoth, it’s as insignificant as a stray dog!”

”No, I must go back and ask my father for money later. I also want to ride a Mammoth!”

”...”

This group of noble youths quickly dismounted and had the soldiers at the gate lead their beasts into the nearby stables, then headed into the city themselves.

Cao Xing naturally heard their discussions about him.

But he didn’t pay them any mind and headed straight into the city.

When he was about to reach the city gate, a group of soldiers in black armor stopped him.

”Merlin City forbids large beasts from entering, including mounts.”

Cao Xing wasn’t surprised, ”I know, please arrange a stable for my companion to rest.”

These soldiers dealt with a massive influx of people daily and had seen all kinds of people.

One soldier spoke calmly: ”Sure, but there’s a fee, it’ll cost 100 crowns per day.”

”But your pet is so large, so it’ll be 200 crowns per day.”

Cao Xing nodded slightly. Such a sum posed no problem for him.

”No problem.”

With that, he was about to jump down from Da Bai’s back.

And at that moment, another soldier said: ”Besides, your soldiers can’t enter the city either.”

He pointed to the Wild Boar Warriors behind Cao Xing.

Cao Xing frowned and asked: ”Why? I see those mercenaries and guards all entering the city.”

This soldier replied blandly: ”They’re allowed in because they have entry permits from the City Guard.”

”Merlin City has regulations. Without permits, no private armed force is allowed entry.”

”If you want to enter, those soldiers must remain outside.”
