I Can Copy And Evolve Talents

Chapter 1340: First Item Creation [part 2]

Northern placed the sword across his lap and held the soul core above it. He breathed slowly, centering himself.

[You’re using Soul Thread’s talent ability: Soul String]

A single thread, gossamer-thin and invisible to any eye not blessed with his sight, emerged from his fingertip. It was a peculiar sensation, like pulling a strand of his own intent into physical form. The thread shimmered with a silver-blue hue only he could perceive.

Northern guided the thread toward the soul core first. The moment it made contact, the core pulsed, its glow intensifying as if recognizing a familiar touch. The frayed ends of the Destroyer’s remnant threads reached toward his, confused, desperate, lonely.

’You want connection,’ Northern thought. ’I’ll give you one.’

He pierced the core gently, threading through its center, and the Destroyer’s essence shuddered. For a moment, Northern felt it.

A flash of alien memory swallowed him whole.

A world-ending hunger consumed him, vast and hollow and infinite. He was a creature in a distant land with no hands, clawing at the walls of the depth that held him, starving for millions of years in the dark. If he could just gain his hand back... the world would end. Not as a consequence. As relief, as the only meal that could ever be enough.

Northern shivered. The hunger still coiled in his chest, wanting, and for a heartbeat he understood it completely. Then his will rose like a tide and overwhelmed the craving, forcing it down, compressing it into the weapon where it belonged.

’That was... unpleasant.’

He pulled the thread through the soul core and began weaving it into the sword, choosing not to dwell on what he’d glimpsed. Some knowledge was better left unfelt.

[You’re using Soul Thread’s Talent ability: Ten Patterns]

His fingers moved with instinctive precision, guided by knowledge he hadn’t possessed before becoming what he was. The thread looped through the Azure Spirit Core embedded in the crossguard, wound around the blade’s edge in a helix pattern, and finally anchored itself into the aetherium pommel.

The sword hummed beneath his hands.

Northern could feel it now. The weapon was no longer just metal and crystal. It was becoming something. The soul core’s essence bled into the blade, suffusing it with the Catastrophic Destroyer’s nature. The temperature around him dropped further, frost crystallizing on the stone beneath him, spreading outward in delicate fractal patterns.

But he wasn’t done.

[You’re using Soul Thread’s talent ability: Binding Weave]

This was the delicate part. Northern extended his perception outward, past the sword, past the soul core, reaching for the threads of reality itself. Ul’s grand tapestry.

He could see them. The strings that defined what was and what wasn’t. The rules that Ul had somehow woven into the very fabric of Tra-el. The silent spell that categorized, measured, and recorded everything within this world.

And truly, it was awesome.

As someone who was interested in crafting things, Northern had to give kudos to Ul for being able to create a spell like this. A world-level spell. He was just here crafting that of a single weapon, and it wouldn’t even have been complete without Ul’s system to anchor it to reality.

’I’ll get there one day.’ He allowed himself the thought without irony. ’Surely.’

Northern found a thread that pulsed with the rhythm of creation, the string that recognized items.

’Here goes everything.’

He connected his binding weave to that thread, using the soul core as the intermediary. The Destroyer’s essence signature acted as the key, the identification that Ul’s system would recognize. Northern wasn’t forging a connection to himself. He was forging a connection to the world.

For a breathless moment, nothing happened.

Then the sword sang.

A resonance echoed through reality, silent to ears but deafening to Northern’s Daemon-enhanced perception. The threads of the world shifted, adjusted, and accepted. Ul’s spell, in its perfection, recognized the soul signature and dutifully catalogued the weapon as something that existed within its domain.

Northern felt the moment of registration like a click in his mind.

[Analyzing...]

[Item Classification: Unique]

Northern exhaled, a grin spreading across his face as information flooded his perception.

[Item]

Name: [The Scerynx’s Hunger]

Type: [Weapon]

Rank: [Heroic]

Order: [IV]

Description: [This sword was crafted by an unknown who glimpsed into the hunger of a threat that could end the world and thought it was a great idea to turn that hunger into a devastating weapon with a mere shrug of his shoulders]

Northern read the information with widening eyes. Then he laughed, a genuine, delighted sound that echoed through the dark forge.

’That’s an oddly peculiar description... still.’

He focused on the ”unknown” part and frowned slightly. ’Was it unable to name me because of the peculiarity of my name?’ He caught himself. ’Oh wow. I used the word peculiar twice.’

Then he focused on the Order. Since it had four orders, it would have four abilities.

[Order Abilities]

Occult Eyes: [The Scerynx has a strange sense of sight, being able to see through anything it slices or has sliced. Because of this, the wielder can perceive the location of any target they have cut]

Soul of Metal: [The Scerynx’s Hunger consumes the soul of other items in a clash, bit by bit, until the item is left with no soul]

Lightning Charge: [Each swing of the blade stacks momentum and converts it to discharge of lightning when full]

Arms of the Scerynx: [The Scerynx’s Hunger contains an attribute of the arm of a hunger that can end the world. The user can sacrifice their life to summon this arm for three minutes]

Northern paused at each ability. They felt strangely familiar. Too familiar. Especially since ”arm” had been oddly specific.

’Was it at Lithia?’ Northern thought for a moment, then corrected himself. ’No, it can’t be. That one was a Leviathan.’

He sat with the question, turning it over, reaching back through his memories until his eyes widened.

’The Dark Seer.’

The tenebrous creature he had fought at the dungeon beneath the academy. The bastard that had been adapting to his attacks and had almost broken through Void Force at the time. Northern wanted to believe his memory was vague and the Dark Seer had actually broken through.

’Hehe... what an interesting twist of events. So it’s you.’ He laughed shortly, looking at the sword with new appreciation. The blade that had been forged from ice and crystal and hunger seemed to gleam back at him, as if acknowledging the recognition.

Then he looked at the abilities again, one after the other. [Occult Eyes] and [Soul of Metal] were probably woven from the creature’s signature essence. [Lightning Charge] was from the aetherium. The last part though...

It was too strong of an ability. Northern’s intuition told him that the reason why such an ability could be woven was due to the Kirithon’s carcass that he had used. The Kirithon was, after all, a creature from Acheronix that had dwelt in trees for probably a very long time before getting defeated by him.

’How are monsters even escaping from that place?’

Northern exhaled and pushed the question aside. What mattered right now was his first success.

He had done it. The sword existed within Ul’s system, acknowledged and categorized, but the trail led nowhere. The soul core had acted as a mask, a false identity that the world’s spell had accepted without question. And he hadn’t needed to name it.

Of course, he had changed his mind about naming it when he’d wanted Ul’s system to do the job. He’d thought about it extra and decided that if he wanted to name a weapon himself, he had to be ready to create one independently. It might be bad for him if Ul caught wind of his kleptomanic deeds.

So Northern figured he had to be ready to craft an independent system, or at least spread his own. But that time was not now.

He stood, holding the blade aloft. The Scerynx’s Hunger gleamed in the darkness, its pale blue light casting long shadows across the stone floor of the forge.

Northern allowed himself a moment to simply look at it. His first Heroic weapon, forged by his own hands, containing the echo of something that could end worlds.

Now for the fun part. He wondered how intriguing it was going to be, mass releasing an item like this and equipping the soldiers of Ryugan with Heroic rank weapons.

The thought made him smile.
