Chapter 575: Chapter 287: Flow of Time

After finishing, he infused magic power into the letter paper.

The sheet immediately folded into a delicate paper crane and flew out of the window, heading towards the mailbox.

Having dealt with these matters, Ron finally had time to settle down and carefully study the acquired ”Lance’s Experiment Notes.”

Although this notebook was just a replica, the craftsmanship was exceptionally fine, with every page bearing special energy imprints, as if retaining some kind of spiritual imprint of the original author.

The pattern on the cover — a semi-transparent sphere floating in a beaker.

Changing with the angle of the light, it presented different depths, like a living creature breathing quietly.

The first page of the notebook contained a brief preface.

The handwriting, though messy, was full of force, as if one could feel the author’s emotions at the time of writing through the paper:

”Life, that eternal puzzle, is both fragile and resilient.

We try to understand it, transform it, yet often forget to respect its inherent rules and essence.

These notes record not only my successes but also my failures and reflections.

May those who come later glimpse a corner of the mystery of life and always remember — a true modulator is not a conqueror of life, but a humble learner.

—— Lance Hewitt”

Upon opening the first page of the notebook, Ron was immediately drawn to the crimson warning words.

”Abyss Modulation Experiment Log, recorded by Lance Hewitt.

Warning: This notebook involves abyss experiments. All content is for reference only. Do not attempt to reproduce without proper protection.”

Below the warning was Lance’s personal seal, a ring-shaped symbol formed by three intertwined snakes, representing his famous ”Three Cycles” theory and the ”book seal” of the Court of Truth’s Inspector.

The following content was a research log arranged in chronological order, recording Lance’s entire process from initial concept to final success.

”Eternal Calendar 12876.

Today marks the beginning of the ’Fusion Life’ project.

Conventional bloodline modification and modulation methods are always limited by the biological acceptance threshold, unable to break through fundamental limitations.

However, if it is possible to create a brand new life form, redefining life’s organizational method and energy cycling system from the essence might achieve unprecedented breakthroughs.

The first step is to find a sufficiently plastic basic life form...”

Ron continued reading, as Lance’s notes detailed how he, then a Dark Sun Wizard, sought suitable basic organisms through various means.

Ultimately, during an otherworld development project, he exchanged with a Great Wizard for a peculiar slime creature.

This creature had no fixed form, could freely change its appearance, and possessed extremely strong environmental adaptability.

”Eternal Calendar 12927.

After several years of domestication and experimentation, the ’membrane-like phagocytic material’ can now stably exist in our world.

However, its assimilation ability is too strong, almost devouring any biological tissue it contacts, which is both an advantage and a challenge.

The next step is to bring it into the Abyss 3rd Floor for brief energy immersion, hoping to guide its traits to develop in the desired direction...”

In the notebook, Lance described the hierarchical structure of the Abyss in detail.

Particularly from the third layer, ”Black Sand Wilderness,” where a significant time flow difference from the outside world started to appear:

”3rd Floor ’Black Sand Wilderness’: The obvious reality distortion begins to manifest, the flow of time differs from the outside world, with an internal day approximating three external days.

The mutation speed of organisms in this environment significantly accelerates, and the mutation direction starts to be guided by the environment’s ’will’.

Interestingly, the black sand itself seems to possess a kind of collective consciousness, capable of influencing the mutation direction of all life forms within range.”

”4th Floor ’Twisted Jungle’: The rules of reality become greatly loosened, and the time flow further distorts, with an internal day approximating seven external days.

Organisms in this environment will quickly undergo fundamental mutations, possibly completely altering their biological classification.

Plants may turn into animals, animals may take root and sprout.

What’s amazing is that most of these organisms can maintain life functions during their mutation process, similar to gradual evolution, rather than collapse and death caused by abrupt mutation.”

...

”6th Floor and below: Extremely difficult to reach and return from.

According to limited observations, the abyss regions starting from the sixth level seem completely detached from the physical rules we understand, becoming a kind of conceptual environmental existence.

The time flow can reach dozens of times or even higher, with one internal day potentially being equivalent to several months externally passing.

Another direct characteristic is that this environment will distort the ’concept’ of living beings.

For instance, the concept of a ’bird’ might be twisted to ’a creature that can both fly and breathe underwater,’ and the individual will automatically reshape according to the new concept.”

”This time flow difference is both a gift from the abyss and part of its curse.”

Gift? Curse? Ron, with some doubts, continued to browse the subsequent content:

”The abyss is an excellent experimental site. When conducting meditation or other extraordinary cultivation, one can also gain the corresponding time flow multiple bonus.

Starting from the sixth layer, this special bonus reaches a terrifying degree.

Yet, the accelerated time flow does not consume one’s lifespan.

The price is equally heavy.

The abyssal curse intensifies with each change in time flow, ultimately leading to irreversible distortion.

I once witnessed an explorer from below the fourth layer, using a transition device to quickly return to the outside world, being cursed and mutated into a horrific monster the instant he returned to the surface...
