My Apocalypse System Arrives 10 Years Early

Chapter 249: Chapter 186: In the Face of Profit, Even Bats Must Change Their Schedule

This wild elephant had never been ridden before. It became enraged, bucking and twisting its body violently, trying to throw Li Xiang off.

Li Xiang showed no mercy and killed it with a single punch.

Elephant meat is said to be incredibly unpalatable. Some Africans would rather eat dirt than elephant meat.

Some wealthy people once wanted to try it for the novelty. Where there’s demand, there’s a market. Someone hunted an elephant, sold it to a rich man, and earned tens of thousands of US dollars.

As it turned out, the rich man declared it tasted absolutely terrible after trying it. Perhaps only the trunk and tongue were somewhat tender.

However, the elephant’s hide could be used to make drums, and its ivory was an exceptionally rare material. It was hard yet easy to carve, often used to create precious handicrafts and decorations. It could even be used for medical equipment like bone pins and orthopedic devices.

So, Li Xiang stored the elephant’s carcass. ’Even if it tastes bad, when there’s nothing else to eat during the Apocalypse, it’s still a source of meat for ordinary people, isn’t it?’

’Of course, I’ll keep the tasty parts for myself and give the unpalatable cuts to the common folk. Eating meat is always better than just eating rice.’

System: ”Congratulations, Host, for killing the Tier Fifteen Mutated Creature, the Mammoth Demon Elephant. You are awarded 1500 Achievement Points, three stalks of the Tier Eight Mutated Spiritual Medicine, Jade Feather Golden Leaf Polygala, and one Tier Thirteen Extraordinary Item, the Profound Iron Mountain-Removal Rod.”

”Damn, why does this grass stink so much?” Li Xiang took out the three stalks of Spirit Grass and examined them. At first, a foul odor assaulted his nostrils, smelling strongly of natural gas. But when Li Xiang pinched his nose and tasted a small piece of a leaf, his eyes lit up. It was actually quite tasty. As he chewed it slowly, it produced a sweet, grassy aftertaste.

Little did he know, this was an upgraded version of a pungent Thai vegetable, considered a local delicacy.

It had been the elephant’s favorite food when it was alive.

’Profound Iron Mountain-Removal Rod!’ Li Xiang put away the Spirit Grass to savor later. With a flick of his wrist, a heavy iron rod appeared in his hand. It was two meters long, thin on one end and thick on the other, shaped much like an elephant’s trunk. It weighed at least eight or nine hundred kilograms, but for Li Xiang, who possessed the strength of ten to fifteen thousand kilograms, it still felt a bit light.

’This will be perfect for dealing with the bats tonight.’ Originally, Li Xiang had planned to gather a bunch of small stones to use as projectiles, scattering them in handfuls like buckshot from a shotgun. But now that he had this new, heavy rod, he was eager to test out his new weapon.

This Profound Iron Mountain-Removal Rod also had two Extraordinary Attributes: ”Armor-Piercing” and ”Vibration.” Any armor below Tier Thirteen would be shattered on impact. Furthermore, it could emit an ”oscillation wave” that would stun an enemy’s mind, affecting them spiritually, not just physically.

’I wonder if it could shatter my Black Mountain Profound Armor?’

But Li Xiang wasn’t foolish enough to actually try.

He gripped the Profound Iron Mountain-Removal Rod, leaped into the air, and swung it at a massive, seven- or eight-meter-high boulder.

With a loud BOOM, the boulder shattered, sending fragments flying everywhere. At the same time, a strange oscillation wave radiated outward from the point of impact. Countless birds fell from the sky, and some beasts that couldn’t escape in time collapsed to the ground.

’Whoa, is this an ultrasound weapon?’ The oscillation wave was silent and invisible, inaudible to the human ear.

With the Profound Iron Mountain-Removal Rod in hand, Li Xiang felt he could deal with the bats much more efficiently.

However, the oscillation wave had its drawbacks. First, its power wasn’t as great as he’d imagined. For example, some of the larger beasts, though knocked down, soon staggered unsteadily back to their feet. They seemed to have been dazed by the blast—some were even bleeding from their eyes and nostrils—but they weren’t dead.

Second, it was an indiscriminate, area-of-effect attack that couldn’t be aimed.

This made it inconvenient to use around teammates or ordinary people, as it could cause friendly fire.

...

In the dead of night, Li Xiang appeared at the entrance of the Bat Cave, carrying the large, elephant-trunk-shaped rod.

After entering, he retrieved a massive, seven- or eight-meter-high boulder from his system inventory and used it to block the entrance.

Aided by his Night Vision Superpower, nothing in the dark cave remained hidden from him; he could see everything clearly.

The bats were a teeming mass, numbering at least in the tens of thousands!

Having been disturbed all day, the bats hadn’t slept well. Now, they were all hanging upside down from the cave ceiling, sleeping soundly. The ground was covered in a thick layer of foul-smelling bat guano, leaving no clean place to step.

Fortunately, Li Xiang was clad in his Black Mountain Profound Armor and wasn’t afraid of the filth. ’Worst case, I’ll just wash it off in the river later,’ he thought.

”Rise and shine! No more sleeping!”

Li Xiang gave the rod a gentle shake. Instantly, a powerful ultrasonic vibration radiated outward. It was silent to human ears, but for these bats—which relied on ultrasound for echolocation, navigation, and finding food—it was a catastrophe.

Some of the smaller bats dropped dead instantly, while some of the adult bats, with their stronger resistance, began to fly about in a panic. Although they could produce their own ultrasound and had a higher tolerance for it than ordinary birds, the external blast severely disrupted their senses. Many of them collided with each other, while others slammed hard into the cave walls, screeching chaotically.

They tried to escape but couldn’t find the exit. Even if they had, the entrance was now blocked by the massive stone Li Xiang had placed there. While there were small gaps, under the interference of the oscillation wave from the elephant-trunk rod, all the bats had become truly ”blind.”
