The Master and His Wealthy Fiancée

Master Wang’s face was grim. It was hard to tell if his anger was directed at Chen Dong or the servant. He said nothing, simply staring coldly at Chen Dong, as if he too wanted an explanation.

It was a long shot, but he couldn’t bear the thought of his daughter’s body being desecrated by a stranger.

Chen Dong, utterly powerless to protect himself at that moment, had no choice but to speak. ”Your daughter is suffering from encephalitis lethargica, also known as sleeping sickness!”

In Chen Dong’s world, this disease had been an epidemic in the early nineteenth century, infecting over a million people with an astonishing forty percent mortality rate.

With time running short, Chen Dong had to explain as he worked the needles.

The servant saw the frighteningly dark look on his master’s face and didn’t dare make another sound.

”She stopped breathing five minutes ago. I have to protect her brain first, or she’ll have memory loss even if I save her.” Chen Dong inserted another Silver Needle, this time into the Baihui acupoint.

”This is the Three Flowers Gather at the Summit technique. It will protect her Sea of Consciousness and her Divine Sense!”

After placing that needle, Chen Dong’s speed increased dramatically. He inserted sixty more needles in just thirty seconds. The entire process took no more than thirty-five seconds.

In those thirty-five short seconds, Chen Dong’s forehead was drenched in sweat—half from pain, half from exhaustion. His body was simply too weak; even the two Marching Pills he had taken had only given him a moment’s respite.

After placing the last needle, Chen Dong said wearily, ”Sir, please transfer some of your True Qi to me. I need it to perform cardiac resuscitation on your daughter and restart her heart.”

In his current state, Chen Dong was too weak to even attempt the procedure. Given Wang Xian’Er’s build, performing cardiac resuscitation without True Qi or medical equipment would be difficult indeed.

Master Wang didn’t hesitate. He immediately placed a palm on Chen Dong’s back and began transferring his True Qi. Although he had never heard of the terms Chen Dong used, his hope in the young man had grown considerably. He had summoned countless doctors, even an Immortal Master from the Qixia Sect, yet none could provide a clear diagnosis. The fact that Chen Dong knew of the Sea of Consciousness and Divine Sense proved he was no ordinary person.

Chen Dong’s Realm was gone, but his experience in wielding True Qi remained. He channeled the small stream of energy from Master Wang to his palm and pressed it against Wang Xian’Er’s chest.

The move stunned the nearby servants and Master Wang.

Physical contact between men and women was strictly taboo. If he didn’t know Chen Dong was trying to save his daughter, he would have torn him limb from limb for that act alone.

Chen Dong felt a cold killing intent from behind him, but his hands didn’t stop. The only way he was going to survive this was to save Wang Xian’Er.

Fortunately, his insights into lightning techniques were still intact. This small wisp of True Qi was enough to convert into voltage for two or three shocks.

As Chen Dong administered the shock, Wang Xian’Er’s body jolted.

Once. Twice. Her heart still showed no signs of restarting.

Sweat dripped from the tip of Chen Dong’s nose as he delivered another shock.

’Come on, move! You have to start beating!’ Chen Dong screamed in his mind.

A faint pulse throbbed beneath his fingertips. Then, his vision went black, and he collapsed.

「Not long after」

Chen Dong slowly regained consciousness to find Wang Yang feeding him ginseng soup.

”You’re awake! You’re incredible! You can even bring back someone who’s stopped breathing!” Wang Yang said in admiration.

Chen Dong cleared his head and looked around. He was still in the same room, but now it was filled with people. Not only was Master Wang present, but so were his two beautiful concubines, with numerous maids and servants waiting by the door.

”How long was I out?” Chen Dong asked.

Wang Yang helped him sit up. ”For the time it takes to drink two cups of tea. The young miss is awake too, but no one dared to touch the needles in her head. Everyone was waiting for you.”

Master Wang, his face flushed with excitement, also spoke up. ”Incredible! To think the man Wang Yang found would have such skill! Give Xian’Er a thorough examination. As long as you can ensure her full recovery, I will reward you handsomely!”

Chen Dong nodded and walked to the bedside. At that moment, Wang Xian’Er was also looking at him with wide eyes.

Chen Dong scanned her with his Divine Sense, then slowly removed the Silver Needles. ”Your daughter is out of immediate danger for now. A full recovery will require a slow course of treatment...”

He trailed off, stopping abruptly. He had been about to write a prescription, but then he remembered this wasn’t his original world. The names of the medicinal herbs might be completely different here.

So, he said instead, ”Once I’ve recovered some of my strength, I will concoct a medicinal pill for your daughter.”

Master Wang laughed heartily. ”Good, good, good! Go and rest for now. If you need anything, just tell Wang Yang.” He then turned to Wang Yang and said, ”From now on, this...” He stopped, changed his tone, and bowed to Chen Dong. ”I have yet to ask for your name, sir?”

Chen Dong returned the gesture. ”Chen Dong.”

The old master smiled and nodded. ”Wang Yang, from now on, you will follow Mr. Chen! Now, take him to rest!”

As Wang Yang helped Chen Dong out, the servant who had initially wanted to strangle him asked, ”Master, about the wedding... is it still on?”

The old master chuckled and asked Wang Xian’Er, who was still in bed, ”Xian’Er, what do you think of this Mr. Chen?”

A shy blush appeared on Wang Xian’Er’s round face, and she quickly pulled the blanket over her head.

The old master instantly burst into boisterous laughter. ”On? Of course, it’s on! I’ll give you three days to prepare. My Xian’Er’s wedding must be the grandest of celebrations!”
