Beauty Chairwoman’s Bodyguard Expert

After hearing the knock on the door, Bai Zhiqing took a deep breath, adjusted her emotions, then reached out to wipe the tears from her eyes, and only then did she reach out to open the door.

Seeing Lin Yafei standing at the door, Bai Zhiqing forced a smile and asked, ”Lin Demon, is there something you need from me?”

Lin Yafei didn’t speak immediately but stared intently at Bai Zhiqing, as if trying to see right through her.

Although Bai Zhiqing hadn’t cried just now, and had adjusted her mindset, those slightly red eyes still clearly showed that she had cried earlier, and her face looked somewhat haggard, lacking her usual radiance.

”Zhiqing, what’s wrong? Did you cry just now? What happened? Tell me so I can help you think of a solution, don’t bottle it up inside.” Lin Yafei exhaled slowly, looking at Bai Zhiqing.

Bai Zhiqing shook her head gently upon hearing Lin Yafei’s words and said, ”Lin Demon, you’re overthinking. I’m fine. What could possibly be wrong?”

After hearing Bai Zhiqing’s words, Lin Yafei sighed softly in her heart. She and Bai Zhiqing were good friends for many years, very clear about Bai Zhiqing’s personality. If Bai Zhiqing didn’t want to speak about something, no amount of persuasion from others would make her speak out. Now Bai Zhiqing was like this, no matter how much she tried to coax her, Bai Zhiqing probably wouldn’t tell her what was weighing on her mind.

Sighing again, Lin Yafei looked at Bai Zhiqing and said, ”Little Qingqing, if you encounter any issues, you must tell me. We are best friends who share everything. Whatever it is, don’t keep it inside. Tell me, and I’ll help you figure it out. Tianxing will help you too, you know? If you keep it to yourself, we’ll be very worried about you.”

”Lin Demon, thank you for your concern.”

Bai Zhiqing looked at Lin Yafei and said, ”If I really had something on my mind, I would definitely tell you. I won’t let you worry, but I’m really just a bit under the weather now. I just need to lie down and rest. No need to worry, I’m really fine.”

Lin Yafei still looked a bit skeptical at Bai Zhiqing, her eyes scanning up and down, before she finally said, ”Little Qingqing, are you sure nothing’s wrong? Don’t lie to me.”

”Lin Demon, why would I lie to you?”

Bai Zhiqing smiled and looked at Lin Yafei, ”What, you don’t believe me?”

”Of course I believe you.”

Lin Yafei responded very seriously, ”I don’t believe others, but I certainly believe you.”

Bai Zhiqing smiled gently, saying nothing more.

Seeing Bai Zhiqing’s silence, Lin Yafei asked again, ”Zhiqing, I heard you went out for a spin today and even dismissed the people secretly protecting you. What was that about?”

Startled by Lin Yafei’s words, Bai Zhiqing felt a jolt in her heart, yet her face remained calm as she said with a faint smile, ”Lin Demon, I’m just not used to having people following me around all the time. Besides, I only went to a café for some coffee, nowhere else. Tianxing said that before the fifth of next month, nobody would come after me, so don’t worry. I promise it won’t happen again, okay?”

”Mm, Little Qingqing, please don’t be careless. Although nobody will target us before the fifth of next month, there’s a saying: better safe than sorry. What if something happens to you?”

Lin Yafei looked at Bai Zhiqing seriously and said, ”Next time, if you don’t want anyone secretly protecting you, then let me accompany you.”

”Mm, got it. Next time I go out, I’ll definitely invite you.”

Bai Zhiqing nodded solemnly and said, ”Alright, Lin Demon, I’m a bit tired now and want to rest. You...”

Before Bai Zhiqing could finish, Lin Yafei responded sensibly, ”Mm! Then you rest. If you feel unwell, let me know, and I’ll take you to the hospital.”

”Also, Little Qingqing, if you really have something on your mind, you have to tell me. Don’t keep it bottled up, don’t make us worry.”

”Lin Demon, relax. I’m not a three-year-old. I know.”

Lin Yafei lightly nodded at Bai Zhiqing’s words and said no more, slowly turning and leaving Bai Zhiqing’s room.

Watching Lin Yafei leave, Bai Zhiqing took a long sigh and closed the door again, feeling utterly drained, leaning against the door as if without strength.

At this moment, Bai Zhiqing felt a profound sense of bewilderment in her heart. She loved Lu Tianxing, willing to give everything for him; otherwise, she wouldn’t have gone along with Tianxing’s many partners. But her grandparents and sister were her family. If she lost them, she’d have nothing left.

Yet the man in the mask forced such a choice upon her—to choose between her man or her family. Both choices seemed equally challenging and difficult to make.

It was a hard choice, and no matter what Bai Zhiqing chose, she felt she would regret it forever.

Meanwhile, after leaving Bai Zhiqing’s room, Lin Yafei not only didn’t feel relieved but felt an increasing gloom hang over her heart.

She was now absolutely certain that Bai Zhiqing had something critically important hidden in her heart, or else Bai Zhiqing wouldn’t have become like this.

She had known Bai Zhiqing for many years, and over those years they had been very close friends, deeply understanding Bai Zhiqing’s character.

Previously, no matter what Bai Zhiqing faced, no matter the hurdles, Lin Yafei never sensed any retreat or fear from her, let alone saw her crying like today.

Now Bai Zhiqing was clearly in tears, which showed that whatever was in her heart was exceptionally pressing; otherwise, Bai Zhiqing wouldn’t have become like this.

But what exactly did Bai Zhiqing encounter today that she wouldn’t even tell her best friend or her husband? Lin Yafei was utterly puzzled.
