I'm Trapped in the Block

Chapter 289: Chapter 287: A Lone Boat Sees the Dawn

The figures in the fog said no more. They just watched Mo Ling quietly, their expressions incredibly complex.

It was as if they couldn’t hear Mo Ling’s words at all.

Suddenly, Mo Ling felt the figures had lost all sense of realism.

’What’s the point of me talking to them?’

No longer hesitating, Mo Ling looked at the figures. Wherever his gaze fell, square voids of fog appeared out of thin air. The dazed, grumbling figures vanished, one after another.

This time, they didn’t prattle on about things like eternal life. Mo Ling’s ears finally found some peace.

The figures disappeared one after another. They didn’t resist or hide, simply standing there and letting Mo Ling teleport them away.

Slowly, only the little girl blocking Mo Ling’s path remained.

Mo Ling was about to activate the teleportation, but the little girl suddenly spoke.

”Are you really going to let the tiger back into the wild? Once we’re gone, there will be no one left to stop the spread of eternal life. The greed of living beings for immortality is endless. They will do anything to ’become immortal’—humans, the Chali Race, even the schools of fish...”

”Tragedy will strike again.”

Faced with the little girl’s warning, Mo Ling suddenly laughed.

”You say that, but aren’t you just afraid of dying?”

He looked at the little girl, the teleportation frame taking aim once more.

”I actually think becoming an immortal is a pretty good thing. You must not have paid attention in Bai Zhou’s class. You don’t even have a clue what an immortal is.”

The void appeared in an instant, and only silence remained in the fog.

”Pay attention in class next time.”

After muttering this, Mo Ling tightened his grip on the little person in his hand and continued to charge forward.

Without the incessant nagging of those figures, the fog became much quieter.

Besides the sound of the wind, there were no more disturbances for Mo Ling.

Not only that, but Mo Ling noticed that after the figures vanished, the fog no longer seemed so dim. It even began to thin out a little.

He didn’t know if this was because he was nearing the edge of the fog, or if the fog itself was truly starting to dissipate.

Fortunately, either way, it was a good thing.

Moreover, the fog no longer seemed so heavy and stagnant. Mo Ling even felt the surroundings become clean and fresh, like morning air laden with dew.

’We must be about to get out.’

Just then, the little person in his hand seemed to regain consciousness and started to stir slightly.

”I think I heard a lot of people arguing. What happened?” the little person asked groggily, his voice laced with confusion.

”It’s nothing. Take a look. Are we at the edge of the dense fog now?”

Hearing Mo Ling’s question, the little person reached out and grabbed a handful of the airborne mist. Then he said joyfully, ”We must be far from the island now! This fog doesn’t affect me at all anymore.”

”No effect at all?”

”That’s right.”

Seeing the little person so happy, the last trace of doubt in Mo Ling’s heart vanished.

’As long as we can get out, it’s fine.’

The once-dark, dense fog had now become very clean. The visibility was high, and the ambient light had clearly increased a great deal.

Mo Ling advanced toward the faint light, his speed unconsciously picking up quite a bit.

The fog grew thinner, and the surroundings grew brighter.

Mo Ling could even see the calm sea surface below. The water was a clean, azure blue.

”We’re almost there,” the little person said anxiously, unable to contain his excitement.

”We’re almost there,” Mo Ling also responded in a low voice.

A sense of excitement was rising within him too, driving him to continue toward the light.

Brighter and brighter.

Brighter and brighter.

Finally, he burst through a final, thin layer of fog. White vapor billowed out, and the dazzling sunlight fell upon Mo Ling’s body.

The calm sea reflected the shimmering light. A gentle sea breeze caressed Mo Ling’s body. The sun hung high in the sky, a warmth he hadn’t felt in a long time.

Mo Ling even felt his own heart grow warmer.

For a moment, he was in a daze, unable to believe the sight before him.

It wasn’t until Mo Ling had been hovering in a daze for a long time that the little person in his hand shouted excitedly, ”We made it! We made it!”

”Did you all see that?”

He seemed to be calling out to his people.

”That’s the sun! Those are the clouds! That’s the blue sky!”

”We really got out!”

The little person gently patted Mo Ling’s hand, signaling for him to let go.

Mo Ling carefully placed him on his shoulder.

As soon as the little person was steady, he spread his arms wide, welcoming the warm sunlight.

”This feels so good.”

His arms rose slowly, stretching lazily, before flopping down limply.

”Thank you.”

His voice was even trembling slightly, his excitement irrepressible.

”It was nothing.” Mo Ling genuinely felt it wasn’t a big deal. ”We just passed through a patch of fog.”

Hearing this, the little person nodded as well.

”Yeah, passed through a patch of fog.”

He looked back, and the faint fog was still there.

From this direction, the fog shrouding the island looked just like an ordinary morning mist.

The little person’s expression suddenly grew desolate.

”It took us two thousand, two hundred years... to pass through this patch of fog.”

However, his expression quickly recovered. He stopped looking at the fog behind him and turned to gaze into the distance.

”It’s so vast. Just how big is this sea?” he asked curiously.

”I don’t know. I heard someone say this is the Infinite Sea.” Of course, Mo Ling didn’t know either; the Abyss was a mystery to him as well.

”Infinite? That means it has no end, right?”

”Yes.”

The little person nodded, his eyes filled with excitement.

”Before Master came to this island, we thought the island was infinite, because there were many dangerous places we couldn’t go.”

”Those bottomless fjords, the interconnected tunnels in the tree roots—they were pitch-black and we didn’t know where they led.”

”But after Master arrived, we began to slowly explore those places with tools, and we realized they weren’t so special after all.”

”The bottoms of the fjords were just some hidden reefs. The tunnels twisted and turned, only to loop back to another part of the island. What we thought was infinite was simply unknown.”

”When the fog first enveloped the island, we also thought it was infinite, until Master returned from outside the fog for the first time.”

”So, this sea definitely isn’t infinite. It’s just that no one has reached its edge yet. Once someone does, it won’t have to be called the Infinite Sea anymore.”

the little person said naively.

Mo Ling didn’t refute him. He just gazed at the sea, which merged seamlessly with the sky, lost in thought.

”Then when that time comes, what will this sea be called?”

Hearing Mo Ling’s question, the little person stared blankly at the sea and thought hard for a long time.

Then, as if he’d thought of something, his expression instantly became excited, and he blurted out:

”The Immortalless Sea!”
