My Sister Insisted on Swapping Marriages, and I Became a Marchioness Instead

Chapter 270: Chapter 270: You Can’t Control Me

Sixth Master Gu was standing nearby. Although he didn’t understand why the third brother spoke this way, he still nodded in agreement.

Qin Yuan glanced at Gu Jinghui. Although she was a bit surprised, she didn’t say anything.

A hint of disdain appeared on the faces of the two Imperial Physicians.

For a doctor, ancestral remedies are the foundation of their livelihood; they are passed down from generation to generation. Selling them lightly is indeed somewhat contemptible.

Remedies for epidemic diseases cannot be compared with ordinary prescriptions.

With this, Dean Pang lost interest in seeing Doctor Li, simply smiled, and said, ”Marquis Gu’s devotion to the country is matchless. No wonder the Emperor has praised his loyalty many times in front of everyone.”

Initially, he wanted to meet the doctor but ended up inquiring about the contents of Marquis Gu’s report, which filled him with immense joy, prompting him to leave in a hurry.

Despite Marquis Gu’s repeated attempts to keep them, the three did not stay for a drink at the mansion.

Dean Pang said, ”If nothing unexpected occurs, the mansion can be opened tomorrow. I will submit the report to the court upon returning.”

”Thank you, Director of the Hospital.”

Marquis Gu turned to the side, and Housekeeper Cao hastily presented the prepared silver bag.

Marquis Gu said, ”I offer a small token in appreciation of Director of the Hospital and the two Imperial Physicians finding time to come. Please speak favorably of me in front of the Emperor.”

After saying this, he handed it over personally.

After their repeated refusal, Dean Pang accepted it, followed by the two Imperial Physicians.

Upon leaving the Marquis Mansion, the two Imperial Physicians couldn’t restrain themselves and started discussing.

”Doctor Liu is really wronged. He voluntarily took risks to enter the mansion initially, only to end up like this, without even a coffin to enjoy future generations’ sacrifices. If the Liu Family finds out, they don’t know how much they’ll cry. I’m afraid this won’t be easy, and who knows what the Marquis Mansion will do.”

The other weighed the silver bag in his hand and said, ”The Dingbei Marquis Mansion is generous. They surely won’t treat the Liu Family poorly.”

Dean Pang simply said, ”The Marquis has already sent a secret report to the Emperor. We just need to report truthfully.”

There’s always something slightly suspicious about the matters of the Dingbei Marquis Mansion. Having been at the Imperial Hospital for many years, if not for his caution, how could he manage to hold so many factions and deal with so many nobles?

Besides, the content of Marquis Gu’s report is the most crucial. He must convey it secretly to a close confidant.

Why stir up trouble by discussing these?

After they left, Sixth Master Gu asked, ”Third brother, why did you say that earlier?”

Qin Yuan also looked over.

Gu Jinghui smiled and said, ”How else could I say it? It’s just to avoid unnecessary trouble. Haven’t you noticed that Doctor Li doesn’t want anything to do with the Imperial Hospital? Be careful in the future and avoid speaking carelessly.”

Sixth Master Gu clapped his hands and said, ”It’s fortunate you came up with that, claiming Doctor Liu prescribed the remedy. Truly, he died beyond dispute.”

Qin Yuan couldn’t help but smile too.

Gu Jinghui said, ”I don’t know why, but looking at those three makes me uneasy. If I really told Dean Pang about Doctor Li, he would question deeply, probably digging up Doctor Liu’s affairs. This way is better.”

Sixth Master Gu wasn’t very clear about Doctor Liu’s matter and asked, ”If the Liu Family causes a commotion, how should we handle it?”

Going without a coffin is indeed too tragic.

The Liu Family won’t take this loss lying down and will surely demand an explanation.

Marquis Gu said nonchalantly, ”The Liu Family wouldn’t dare to cause a scene. If they do, let Housekeeper Han handle it, and you all need not concern yourselves.”

Although these words were directed at Sixth Master Gu, they were meant for Qin Yuan.

After all, Sixth Master Gu doesn’t handle affairs.

Qin Yuan had a vague suspicion but assumed Marquis Gu spoke this way to prevent greater trouble, so she accepted and said, ”When the Liu Family comes, I’ll let Housekeeper Han deal with them.”

Gu Jinghui nodded.

Qin Yuan then said, ”I plan to gather everyone in the mansion today and reward or punish them based on their actions during this time. I wonder what the Marquis thinks...”

Marquis Gu immediately said, ”I’ll be with you.”

Sixth Master Gu thought for a moment and asked, ”Does Third Sister-in-law need me there too?”

Qin Yuan said, ”If Sixth Brother has matters to attend to, you may go. I have publicly announced guidelines before, urging them to adhere to their duties, and promised rewards and punishments. It’s all trivial matters; you may not have the patience to sit through it.”

Sixth Master Gu said, ”I’ll sit quietly on the side, watching without speaking. Besides, if you’re awarding anyone, Shen Changle should definitely have a share.”

Marquis Gu said, ”See, you don’t understand but love to interrupt. Shen Changle has been working outside the mansion all this time, and your third sister-in-law’s rewards and punishments are for those who worked inside the mansion during this period.”

Sixth Master Gu said nothing.

Qin Yuan smiled and said, ”Shen Changle will naturally be rewarded, but as your third brother said, not today.”

Sixth Master Gu smiled and said, ”As long as Third Sister-in-law remembers.”

After speaking, he proudly glanced at the third brother.

Marquis Gu: ”... Childish...”

Housekeeper Han received the order and gathered the whole family. In half an hour, they would gather in the outer courtyard.

Soon, everyone had assembled.

The courtyard was bustling with noise.

During these days, many had taken turns working and not met much. Now, following the master’s order and gathered together, especially with the smallpox threat lifted from their minds, they inevitably engaged in scattered conversations and loudly greeted each other.

Housekeeper Han had people bring tables and chairs and set up a large silk umbrella.

Housekeeper Cao also instructed people to sprinkle water around to suppress the dust, light incense, and serve tea.

Sun Accountant said to Housekeeper Zhang beside him, ”Look at them both flattering the master. We didn’t see them act like this before. It’s only been these days, and they’ve acknowledged the master.”

His long neck stretched out as he spoke, his Adam’s apple rolling vigorously up and down, with a full expression of indifference.

Housekeeper Zhang said, ”These two are the smart ones. I’m too self-conscious to approach, just hoping they don’t notice me, so you should keep quiet too. Sixth Madam has lost power, and the mistress holds great authority now; the Marquis values her, so maybe the entire Marquis Mansion will be under her control.”

Sun Accountant shook his head and said, ”The Marquis is merely acting expediently. How could he hand the whole mansion over to her? Speaking of which, she hasn’t even been in the mansion for half a year.”

He continued with some conceit, ”Besides, I have no weaknesses for her to seize. These words are only for us; I would never utter a word in public.”

Housekeeper Zhang said nothing.

Before long, the stewards and housekeepers were all gathered, followed by all the maids and nannies from Wutong Garden.

A few young maids used their handkerchiefs to clean the chairs and laid ivory mats.

Only then did Qin Yuan enter, escorted by the crowd, with Marquis Gu walking behind her with his hands clasped, and Sixth Master Gu following.

Housekeeper Cao immediately said loudly, ”Quiet, quiet, the Marquis and Madam have arrived.”

The crowd fell silent instantly.

Gu Jinghui reached out, tugging Qin Yuan to sit, while Sixth Master Gu sat beside Marquis Gu.

Sun Accountant quietly asked Housekeeper Zhang, ”Sixth Master is here, why didn’t Sixth Madam come?”
