Chapter 597: Chapter 66: A Narrow Escape from Death (Part 2)

”This is really bad,” Lin Feng couldn’t help but howl in misery as he quickly scrambled to his feet from the ground.

And the situation of Ouyang Xiyu and the others clearly wasn’t much better than Lin Feng’s.

Their faces were pale, having suffered no light injuries.

However, the self-destruction of the Ancient War Chariot had blown up a large number of Golden Blade Demons.

The destructive power generated by the self-destruction of the Ancient War Chariot was still quite astonishing.

Lin Feng and the others dared not linger and quickly swept forward; soon, those Golden Blade Demons that hadn’t died chased after them again, numbering around four to five hundred.

Not far away, about a dozen Cultivators were being pursued by a group of Golden Blade Demons, some Cultivators, like Lin Feng and his group, had escaped into the valley below, hoping to find their way out of the valley to survival.

Lin Feng saw Shui Xinqi and Mo Miaoling.

They were also among this group of people.

”Only Shui Xinqi and Mo Miaoling are here, and they both exude a strange aura. It seems that Mo Shaoye and the others have all met their grim death behind the pitch-black Stone Gate,” Lin Feng pondered, feeling somewhat saddened at the thought of Mo Shaoye’s death.

Although he couldn’t say he had a particularly deep friendship with Mo Shaoye, they could still be considered friends.

Lin Feng thought of his own situation and couldn’t help but smile bitterly; currently surrounded and hunted by Golden Blade Demons, he didn’t even know if he could escape alive, yet he was feeling emotional about the death of others.

Lin Feng quickly gathered his spirits; their group of thirteen joined forces with the other dozen or so Cultivators ahead, and everyone desperately swept towards the opposite bank.

”It’s you...”

Shui Xinqi looked at Lin Feng, the corners of her mouth curving into a charming arc, but Lin Feng felt an eerily cold sensation in his heart when he saw that smile on Shui Xinqi’s face.

This Shui Xinqi gave Lin Feng a very strange feeling; the original Shui Xinqi had a lively... boldness.

But the current Shui Xinqi felt eerie and cold.

”To be able to escape from there, you really do have some ability,” Mo Miaoling said in an ambiguous tone.

Lin Feng frowned; both Shui Xinqi and Mo Miaoling were acting too strange, their tone also carrying a provocative flavor, which was not like the Shui Xinqi and Mo Miaoling he knew before.

”Haven’t you two also come out alive?” Lin Feng commented, casually glancing at the two.

”Us?” Shui Xinqi and Mo Miaoling looked at each other, a strange glint passing through their eyes. They stared deeply at Lin Feng for a moment before choosing to say no more.

”These two have such a gloomy aura,” Ouyang Xiyu said with a slight furrowing of her brows.

”Indeed, too weird. I can’t be bothered with them. No matter what they’ve been through, as long as they don’t provoke me, it’s fine. But if they do, it doesn’t matter whether they are still the previous Shui Xinqi and Mo Miaoling or not, I won’t show any mercy,” Lin Feng’s eyes flashed with a cold light.

Ouyang Xiyu said, ”It seems you also suspect that they have been...”

Ouyang Xiyu didn’t finish her sentence, believing Lin Feng understood what she wanted to say.

Lin Feng nodded, but didn’t say anything more.

They swiftly moved toward the opposite side of the canyon. Behind them, dense clusters of Golden Blade Demons quickly gave chase, exuding a terrifying aura, while above, another group of Golden Blade Demons closed in. Golden Blade Demons appeared in front as well, and from both sides.

”We’re surrounded,” a Cultivator said, his face pale.

”Ignore the Golden Blade Demons behind, attack the ones in front with all your might. Shui Xinqi, you lead three to hold off the Golden Blade Demons on the left, and Mo Miaoling, you take three to fend off those on the right. You don’t need to kill these demons, just hold them off for a while,” Lin Feng commanded.

A flash of anger sparked in the eyes of Shui Xinqi and Mo Miaoling. How dare this lowly being order us around? However, remembering their current lack of strength and the vulnerability of their new physical bodies, both ’Shui Xinqi’ and ’Mo Miaoling’ nodded in agreement.

”The rest of you, come with me and fight the Golden Blade Demons ahead with all our might. Let’s carve a bloody path through them!” Lin Feng shouted loudly.

Knowing that their moment of life and death had arrived, everyone put forth their best effort.

Lin Feng, Ouyang Xiyu, and others threw themselves into the attack on the Golden Blade Demons approaching from the front.

Lin Feng cast out hundreds of previously carved talisman stones. All the talisman stones exploded, blasting many Golden Blade Demons away, greatly reducing the pressure on Lin Feng and others.

Turning his head, Lin Feng saw Shui Xinqi and Mo Miaoling, one emitting a sky full of Divine Light to resist the Golden Blade Demons and the other unleashing a sky full of Demon Attack to ward off those on another side, aided by three Cultivators.

The Golden Blade Demons were actually being held back. Lin Feng was shocked. There seemed to be untold secrets about these two people; otherwise, how could they suddenly possess such terrifying abilities?

Lin Feng could tell at a glance that the credit for holding back those demons went 90% to Shui Xinqi and Mo Miaoling.

Quickly turning his attention away, Lin Feng joined Ouyang Xiyu and the others in the fray against the Golden Blade Demons in front, forcefully tearing open a gap through which everyone charged out.

But not everyone was fortunate enough to escape. Ten Cultivators were slain, including three Death Soldiers by Ouyang Xiyu’s side.

Thankfully, the majority managed to barely escape the Abyss. Without pausing for breath, they quickly rushed forward. The Golden Blade Demons gave chase for a few hundred meters before flying back into the canyon, seeming unable to stray too far from it.

”Phew...” Everyone wore expressions akin to those who’d narrowly escaped death.

”If one-tenth of the more than two thousand people manage to survive, it would be considered extremely lucky,” Lin Feng said.

More Cultivators continued to escape by the skin of their teeth.

Lin Feng and the others quickly departed and after three days, a vast lake appeared ahead. They flew into the lake, and on the way, Lin Feng encountered Zheng Wandao, who was now alone.

”Brother Zheng, why have you come alone?” Lin Feng asked.

Zheng Wandao sighed, ”We were passing through a dense forest and were attacked by a swarm of Divine Split Demon Spiders. Everyone else on my team perished, and only I managed to escape.”

It was only after conversing with Zheng Wandao that they learned he and his team hadn’t come through the canyon but from a different area, crossing through a dark, dense forest. In the forest, a terrible thing had happened.

Hunting God Demon Spiders, terrifying creatures of legend, had appeared in swarms, ruthlessly slaughtering Cultivators. Countless Cultivators perished in that forest, with only a small number escaping.

Ouyang Xiyu noted, ”It seems that no matter which way we come from, we’re bound to encounter attacks that are a matter of life and death.”

Lin Feng nodded. The fact that they had survived and escaped was indeed a stroke of great fortune amidst misfortune. He was now relieved he hadn’t brought Shee Weizhu and others, for with their level of Cultivation, they would have surely met their end in this perilous place.
