Humankind fears death

It was something engraved on us from the moment we’re born.

Every breath we took was one closer to the ever ending darkness, Every second that passed was the time on your clock running out. It was a morbid outlook especially if you lived day by day thinking such things but as someone who was easily scared in the past I couldn’t help it.

Before all of this started I used to be a regular high school student.

The type that sat in the middle of the class room, Avoiding the popular crowds to my back and the honor students in front. I wasn’t a loner like you might think, I had friends that I chatted with during lunch and hung out with after the last bell in class rang.

I couldn’t lie and say that I wasn’t happy.

My parents were decent people who made sure that I was taken care of, My mother was a dentist and my father worked as a professor at a nearby collage. We lived in a two story house with a white picket fence just like you would see in those romantic movies near the end when the main couple finally got together.

Yet all of it changed quicker than I could process.

I shut my eyes on a school night already dreading waking up early, My clothes for the next day had already been picked out and were laying on the chair of my desk ready to be put on. How could I have expected anything else to happen, I mean I was just a normal teenager who was thinking about confessing to one of the girls who sat a few seats to my side.

Transmigration

The act of your soul transferring to a different world after your death. It was a very popular trend in anime and light novels that had gotten to a point that it was incredibly overused, But you couldn’t blame the authors since the audience ate it up every time no matter how subpar the story truly was.

I didn’t know what happed, If I had passed away in my sleep but I had woken up in the body of an infant. I was terrified and confused at first and for a few hours I thought I was having a very lucid dream, Eventually though I was forced to accept the new reality and the new body I had taken over or perhaps reincarnated into.

I won’t get into the specifics but i did what babies did.

Flailed my tiny arms around, Cried nonstop and sucked on my mother’s nipple with mixed feelings. I learned about the new world I was in slowly and the information I received left me shocked, The day I truly realized the situation I was in was when an assassin had snuck into my room when I hadn’t even turned one yet.

He was killed with a sword through the heart and dropped to the ground lifeless, I spent the next week crying in a panic of horror and despair. I understand it was pathetic but it was the first time I had ever seen someone die. The crimson blood that pooled at the front of my crib was burned into my first memories of this world.

This was a world of strength.

One where those with power stood at the top and those without could only stare at them from below.

So I had sworn to myself that I would become one of those people.

Reality was much different though.

The difference between me and those overpowered protagonists that you would constantly read about was that I had nothing. I didn’t have some cheat system nor divine bloodline that propelled me forward, In fact I was so talentless that I was just on the edge of being called as waste of breath.

And so I killed.

I killed those who were more talented, Those who wanted my life, Those who wanted to rise above just like me.

Of course I lost constantly, I can’t count the amount of times I escaped deaths door by just the hair on my head.

But I never gave up.

I drowned in my own blood to the point its taste was a familiarity on the tip of my tongue. I bathed in the blood of my enemies until I grew to like the feeling of the crimson liquid sliding across my skin. I never stopped no matter how many times I was forced to kneel, No matter how many times my heart beat grew faint to the point of being exhausted.

I was unyielding

No

The truth was that I wanted to give up. Sometimes I prayed that I would close my eyes and never wake up, I hoped that an enemy i couldn’t beat would appear before me. Those thoughts continued endless in the back of my head as I tried to push them back, Trying not to let them take ahold of me.

Until there was no one.

No one to stand against me.

No one for me to fear anymore.

No one to fight against with my life on the line.

That was how I became known as the Crimson Sovereign.

The Emperor of blood.
