Investing In Overlooked Women: I Get Cashback On Every Glow-Up

She shook her head quickly, waving her hand in defense. ”No, really, don’t worry about it. I have some stuff inside, I’ll be fine.”

I knew right then that slapping a wad of cash into her hand or ordering a mountain of groceries to her door would just trigger her defenses again. She’d see it as charity or control, and that wall would go right back up.

But I had another way.

”Can I stay with you for a bit?” I asked casually, looking her right in the eyes.

Her brows furrowed in pure confusion, her jaw dropping slightly. ”Uh... what?”

”Look, you just got discharged after blacking out on a restaurant floor,” I said, keeping my tone completely relaxed and pragmatic. ”I just want to walk you up and sit with you for a little while to make sure you don’t faint again the second you hit the stairs. Once I see you’re stable and settled, I’ll get out of your hair. Deal?”

She looked at me, caught completely off guard, trying to figure out if I was joking. But seeing the steady, genuine look on my face, her initial resistance slowly faded into a quiet, resigned nod.

She hesitated for a split second before giving a small, weary nod. ”Okay... fine. Just for a little bit.”

We stepped out of the car and headed up to her place. Her apartment was modest and small, but the moment we walked through the door, I noticed how surprisingly clean and overall minimalistic it was. The whole place had a soft, comforting scent of vanilla lingering in the air.

”Welcome,” she said quietly, gesturing toward the small living space. ”Make yourself at home.”

”Thanks,” I said, taking a seat on her simple sofa while she vanished into her bedroom to wash up and change into something more comfortable.

Once I heard her room door close, I stood up and slowly walked around the space. On a small wooden shelf, I noticed a couple of framed pictures of her family from years ago—simple, happy memories before everything went south.

As I kept looking around, my eyes landed on a neatly arranged pile sitting on her small side table. I stepped closer and picked a few up, browsing through them. It was a whole collection of store gift cards, promotional shopping vouchers, and discount coupons she had carefully clipped and saved up.

I looked down at the stack, a quiet ”hmph” escaping my lips as a brilliant idea suddenly popped into my head.

She stepped out of her bedroom wearing an oversized hoodie and sweatpants, her wet hair wrapped in a towel. Catching me looking at the neatly stacked vouchers, a faint, soft smile touched her lips for the first time.

”I know it looks weird,” she said quietly, leaning against the doorframe. ”It’s a bit of a hobby I picked up from my mom before she died. Watching her hunt for coupons and organize gift cards was always so calm and relaxing to her. I guess I just kept doing it.”

”It’s not weird at all. It’s actually impressive how organized it is,” I said, setting the vouchers back down on the table while keeping my new idea locked in my head for later.

”Okay...” she murmured, walking over to sit on the opposite end of the couch. She drew her knees up to her chest, resting her chin on them as she looked at me with genuine curiosity. ”So... what about you? What’s your hobby?”

”Me?” I leaned back against the cushions, crossing my legs. ”Playing games, traveling, going on vacations, exploring new places...”

Patricia just stared at me blankly.

Her face said it all—a complete mixture of disbelief and sheer confusion, like I was speaking a foreign language.

”Is... is traveling a hobby?” she asked slowly, blinking at me. ”Must be nice living in a world where taking a vacation counts as a casual weekend activity.”

I just laughed it off, leaning back and shaking my head. ”Fair point. When you put it like that, it sounds pretty wild.”

Patricia let out a soft yawn, her eyelids growing heavy as the exhaustion finally started pulling her under. ”I think... I’m feeling really sleepy now.”

”That’s my cue to leave,” I said, standing up smoothly from the couch. ”Get some rest, Patricia. You’ve had a long day.”

She nodded sleepily, locking the door behind me as I stepped out into the hallway.

Walking down to my car, that idea I had earlier clicked into place completely. Her voucher and gift card hunting was the perfect gateway. I was going to sponsor a custom, rigged sweepstakes—stacking local magazines with guaranteed winning vouchers, gift cards, and high-end shopping sprees specifically tailored for her. She’d get to do her favorite relaxing hobby, win everything she needed to upgrade her lifestyle, and never suspect a single bit of charity from me.

I slid into the driver’s seat, fired up the engine, and summoned the System interface in my vision.
