Investing In Overlooked Women: I Get Cashback On Every Glow-Up

The studio descended into complete, chaotic noise. The interviewer slowly held up his tablet to the main broadcast camera, his eyes wide in utter disbelief as he scrolled through the newly released tracklist.

”Wait... hold on, ladies and gentlemen!” the host shouted into his desktop mic, his voice echoing over the applause. ”I just pulled up Hailey Sterling’s new album on Spotify! Track One—the lead single—is word-for-word, note-for-note the exact song this young lady just sang live on our stage!”

Gasps rippled across the live audience, followed by a tidal wave of overlapping whispers.

Hailey’s face twisted in pure, ugly desperation. Realizing the narrative was completely slipping out of her hands, she snatched at the air, pointing a trembling, manic finger straight at Ruby.

”She stole it!” Hailey shrieked into the empty air, her voice cracking as she tried to shout over the crowd. ”She’s a former maid! She was a nobody working in my house! She stole my demo files off my private hard drive and memorized it! She’s a thief!”

”A thief?” someone in the front row scoffed loudly.

The studio crowd wasn’t buying a single word. The contrast was too stark—Ruby had just delivered a soul-stirring, pitch-perfect live performance with nothing but an acoustic guitar, while Hailey had stood there choking on her own tongue, unable to utter a single note without her backing tracks.

Down in the VIP section of the studio floor, a prominent music blogger pulled out his phone, cranking his speaker volume up to the maximum and holding it up to a crowd mic.

”I’m listening to the rest of the album right now!” the blogger yelled over the noise, making the host turn the audio feed toward him. ”The lead single is incredible because of her—but the rest of this album is complete garbage! The vocals are drenched in autotune, the lyrics are lazy, and she sounds like a robot! The lead single is the only good track on the entire record!”

Laughter and boos started erupting from the audience. Online, the live stream chat was moving so fast it was a blur of skull emojis, call-outs, and demands for Apex Music Group to answer for fraud.

Hailey backed away from Ruby, looking around the studio as if the walls were closing in on her. Her father, Travis, stormed out onto the edge of the stage, screaming at the production crew to cut the satellite feed—but the director, riding the highest live ratings in the show’s history, flat-out refused to turn off the cameras.

Ruby stood calmly in the center of the storm, holding her head high as the entire empire Hailey had built on stolen talent crumbled to ash in front of millions.

A floor manager rushed onto the stage mid-broadcast, clutching a buzzing corporate smartphone, and thrust it into Hailey’s shaking hands.

”It’s the board of directors,” the manager whispered frantically. ”Take it now.”

Hailey brought the phone to her ear, her face growing paler by the second. On the other end of the line, the label’s managing director wasn’t just angry—he was in absolute panic.

What Hailey and Travis didn’t know was that over the past forty-eight hours, I had quietly executed a corporate raid on Apex Music Group’s debt portfolio. I had bought up the vast majority of Hailey’s publishing royalties and bought out the multi-million-dollar advance loan her father had taken against her future catalog. I owned her masters. I owned her debt. And five minutes ago, my legal team had issued an ultimatum to the board: force Hailey to come clean on air, or I would declare her in default, call in the full advance immediately, and freeze every single AMG asset attached to her name.

”Hailey, listen to me,” the director’s voice slammed through the receiver so loud the near stage mics almost picked it up. ”We are facing complete financial liquidation. Ethan owns your catalog. He owns your advance. If you don’t go to that microphone right now and tell the truth, we are dropping you from the label, suing your father for fraud, and seizing everything you own by morning.”

The phone slid from Hailey’s limp fingers, clattering onto the stage floor.

The silence that followed in the studio was absolute. The arrogance, the gloss, the fake pop-star persona—all of it peeled away in a single second, leaving behind a terrified girl staring down the barrel of total financial and professional ruin.

Hailey turned slowly toward the broadcast camera. Her knees gave out, and she sank to the floor, her red gown pooling around her as she broke down into quiet, uncontrollable sobs.

She didn’t reach for the gold mic. She looked up at Ruby, who stood over her with cold, unwavering dignity.

”I didn’t write it,” Hailey gasped out, her voice breaking across the silent studio and carrying directly into the live feed. ”None of it... I didn’t write the lead single. I didn’t write any of the hits. It was Ruby. Ruby wrote all of them. She’s the writer... she’s the voice.”

The confession landed like an atomic bomb. Off-stage, Travis sank into a folding chair, burying his face in his hands as the studio crowd broke into a stunned, deafening roar.

Up in the gallery, I took one last slow sip of my champagne, watching as the world finally bowed to the real star on that stage.

The crowd in the studio erupted into an absolute frenzy. Shocked gasps mixed with loud shouts from people who had suspected the truth all along.

”I knew it!” someone yelled from the third row. ”I told you no way Hailey was singing those notes!”

Within seconds, the tone in the room shifted completely from shock to pure, unadulterated admiration. The applause roared back, louder than before, as the audience began chanting Ruby’s name. Down on the stage floor, Hailey remained broken on her knees, completely ignored as the entire world’s attention locked onto the real artist standing in the spotlight.

Ruby took a deep breath, her eyes shining with unshed tears of relief and triumph. She looked up toward the VIP gallery, her gaze finding mine through the dim lights. A soft, breathtaking smile spread across her face—a look of pure gratitude and shared victory.

She lifted the microphone back to her lips, her voice steady, warm, and resonant as it carried across the broadcast.

”For a long time, I was told that my voice belonged in the background,” Ruby began, her words silencing the room as everyone hung on her every word. ”I was told that people like me were meant to stay hidden, writing the dreams that other people get to live out. But talent isn’t something you can steal, and it’s not something you can bury.”

She paused, looking directly up at the VIP box once again.

”I wouldn’t be standing here right now if it weren’t for one person who saw me when I was completely invisible,” she said, her voice filled with deep emotion. ”To Ethan... thank you for believing in my voice when I had forgotten how to use it. You gave me the stage, but more than that, you gave me my life back.”

The crowd turned toward the VIP box, erupting into another massive wave of cheers.

”To everyone listening tonight,” Ruby continued, turning back to the main broadcast camera with absolute grace, ”my name is Ruby. And this is just the beginning.”
