Others Summon Dragons, I Summon Legendary Knights

Chapter 341: Master Of Illusions (2)

Adonis stood before the mana tree, holding a fruit. He held it for a while, then a diagram flared up beside him.

A huge butterfly came out, and he stretched the fruit toward it. The butterfly swiftly devoured the fruit while Adonis kept looking at the mana tree.

Of all the questions he had for it, one lingered in his heart.

Why?

He turned and saw his butterfly had gained human form. It was just like him, just better-looking, with white hair, irises, eyebrows, eyelashes, and attractive pale skin.

Both of them looked at each other.

Then, the summon stretched out its hand. ”I still have the memories of when you trained me,” it said with a calm voice, one that seemed prepared for this long ago.

His summon had always been a part of him; it was a part of his soul made into a subservient being, but now...

”What happens when I take your hand?” Adonis asked, his eyes lowering to Snow, his summon’s palm, outstretched.

”We become whole, and I take over,” Snow replied.

Adonis lifted up his hand, then slowly reached out before placing it on Snow’s. Both of them shone with a bright light and fused into one.

A butterfly took the place of his right eye, and large wings sprouted from his back.

The wings were near-translucent, sharp-edged, with a pattern that seemed almost web-like.

Snow exhaled as black glimmer burst out of his body, transforming his clothing into a white suit with a white shirt and shoes.

His other eye became normal, and both of them gleamed with silvery light. After a final glance at the mana tree, Snow turned back to the white gate and left.

When he emerged, he saw Godfrey sitting on the lakeside. Snow, the creature who was now in control, saw differently. It could see beyond the normal, and what it saw sitting there was the presence of the unknown over Godfrey.

What he saw was a faint golden being with a darkness at the edge of his golden frame and bright golden eyes from his helmet.

As a monster, it felt the weight of a beast-slaying king.

”What are you?” Snow asked, visibly startled.

”You’re not Adonis, right?” Godfrey asked, looking at Snow. What Snow could see was entirely different.

Godfrey rose to his feet and turned away. ”You may leave, but if—!” He couldn’t even finish when Snow turned into a large butterfly and vanished into the night sky.

Godfrey believed once Adonis was ready, he would awaken. He could sense a much stronger aura when Snow came out of the white gate, and he had not even fully absorbed the mana fruit yet. Why did it look at him with such wariness?

It felt like the gaze other beasts would have when they stumbled into a lion.

While Godfrey was lost in thought, Snow went to Dragon City and disguised himself as a man with a hat and a coat.

He looked around and could see the aura of people’s summons cloaking them like phantoms. There were some people who were black with red eyes. They were human and, at the same time, not.

His illusion had grown to an extent that reality might as well become an illusion to him. Yet, his breath was a bit shaky.

”What did I just see?” Snow asked himself, then looked at a restaurant.

The King’s Restaurant.

”King...” Snow squinted.

***

Godfrey went back to the mansion and went into the shower. As the water splattered on his head, rolling down his face, shoulders, and chest, his eyes kept flickering.

He shut them, switched off the shower, left the bathroom, and wore a new set of clothes. As he left the room, a sound caught his ears.

While lost in thought, his body followed the sound. While weak, he felt pain; now he was strong, now he was powerful to a certain extent, so why did the pain continue?

The world of the strong and the weak? What was the difference? Even an Origin Tier like Snow could weep like a powerless man.

Did the great still cry?

Swimming down a stream many had once embarked on, Godfrey suddenly stopped halfway when he stood at the door that led to the room that sound came from.

It was a piano.

Who played?

The door was slightly ajar, so he pushed it inward and saw a white room with a curved end. The walls of that curved end were made of glass, and that was where the platform on which a grand acoustic piano stood.

A chandelier hung just above it. Seated on a stool was Isolde, basking under the soft light of the chandelier in this semi-dark room as her slender fingers played the keys, producing a soothing musical sound that resonated with his very soul.

He felt drawn.

”Frey...” Isolde stopped when she saw him, but Godfrey beckoned for her to continue. He went toward her and sat on the floor, leaning slightly on her back with his eyes closed.

”Don’t stop. I enjoy it,” his voice, filled with warmth or actually yearning for warmth, slipped into her ears.

Godfrey closed his eyes as Isolde played. The world felt so distant and so close at the same time. This feeling... It was surreal.

Were they all weak in the end? The immortal is traumatized by every death he’s experienced until he ends up mad. Even then, he’s not exempt from loss.

Was this the stake? Love in the world even when it might be taken away? Was this what an apocalypse meant?

Choosing to have friends was a risk because it meant pain, but hadn’t he closed his heart enough? More and he would be unrecognizable.

Godfrey knew in the end he would become strong, but at what cost? Could he protect himself and those around him until he got to that level of strength?

Could he bring the order back into greatness, could he represent the faith of those knights willing to fight for him, hoping to rise from the ashes once more?

’It seems almost every created being is limited. Maybe this philosophy will change once I get stronger... or it won’t.’

The moment he opened his eyes, Isolde stopped.

”I hope I find Jon before you do. Anyone that makes you feel this way doesn’t deserve to breathe,” Isolde muttered under her breath.
