Others Summon Dragons, I Summon Legendary Knights

Chapter 63: Cecil’s Frightening Combat Skill

After Snow was taken to the nurse, Godfrey faced his next opponent. He didn’t know what expression to make as he faced off against Isolde.

As much as Godfrey cherished their friendship, coming out on top was the priority, and he was sure Isolde had the same mindset since she seemed to have a knack for excellence.

Isolde summoned her white wyvern, whose thick alabaster scales shone brighter under the sunlight. It towered imposingly behind Isolde, white, chilling mist leaving its nostrils.

Ballista and Mountain came out of a golden diagram by Godfrey’s left and right, both activating Black-Out.

Ballista drew his bow, lightning crackling through its length with great might. Everyone could feel the hum in the air as the lightning grew more intense.

Godfrey raised an eyebrow as he saw Isolde’s wyvern wasn’t doing anything. When Ballista was about to release the arrow, it lowered its head to Isolde’s level, and just then the arrow tore through the air.

Godfrey’s eyes widened the next moment as the arrow froze, and the air between it and Ballista also froze, as the Bow Knight-Captain was encased in thick ice. The cold from it alone caused intense pain to Godfrey, so much that he grunted, distancing himself.

”The coldness of that ice is beyond what a wyvern can do. I’m afraid that wyvern is about to become a Frost Dragon,” the instructor muttered to himself while watching the wyvern take to the skies, its true domain.

Mountain lifted his head, throwing his great shield with all his might. It soared, spinning with intense velocity before hitting the head of the wyvern, making it veer off and crash into the ground.

Mountain charged toward the wyvern, who rose back up and breathed out frost air. It collided with Mountain and brushed right off.

He had copied the dragon’s frost, so he was naturally immune to certain ice attacks as the wyvern was.

Seeing this, the wyvern’s large eyes narrowed, and it lunged at him with wide strides. At close distance, it swung its tail, slamming Mountain.

The Shield and Sword Knight-Captain skidded almost a hundred meters backward before being hit by the Frost Lock skill, becoming totally encased in ice.

It was so cold that the ground around it gained a layer of ice coating. Just then, the ice around Ballista shattered, lightning crackling on the shards as the Bow Knight-Captain fired three arrows.

All three multiplied into nine. The white wyvern took huge strides, tanking the arrows head-on. They managed to pierce into its scales but could not go beyond the tip. With a mighty flap, the wyvern took to the skies, unleashing pure ice, not mist, engulfing nearly a hundred meters!

Both Godfrey, Mountain, and Ballista were frozen in what looked like a giant ice lotus from afar.

”Grace!” Isolde yelled, and the beast made the ice become snow, which harmlessly fell off the bodies of Godfrey and his summons.

”Are you okay?” Isolde approached, wiping off snow from Godfrey’s shoulders.

”You’re strong,” Godfrey admitted, not regretfully, as he knew the gulf between them couldn’t be crossed easily. She stood at the top of Manhattan; no one knew if she or Jon was stronger.

”Onto the next. Isolde wins the part for Best Summon. We’re moving onto the test for the summoner, which is you without your summon, without your summon’s skills. Just you and your own skills.”

Everyone looked at each other. This last test had to do with strength, speed, and reflexes in relation to combat skills.

”During our freshman year, Cecil dominated. I know you’re strong, but we all know there will be mana suppressors during this test. You won’t have the powerful physique gained from being a dual summoner, and Cecil has trained in the ancient Muay Thai, even going against some major professionals,” Lucy whispered to Godfrey as they made their way indoors to the venue.

”Ancient art. I heard they’re quite powerful when mastered completely. And without suppressors, it will all come down to how well we’ve trained our bodies without the aid of our summons,” Isolde replied.

”What did you learn?” Lucy asked, while Isolde’s ears perked to hear more about Godfrey.

Godfrey blinked. ”Boxing.”

Lucy bit her lower lip. ”I’m afraid you’ll lose. Your art depends on throwing punches and good footwork, but Muay Thai is good with clinch work, kicks, and blows from elbows and knees. The damage alone is way more than what a punch could deal. And Cecil...” Lucy glanced at the girl with a bob cut, her pupils dilating.

”...Is a natural at Muay Thai. Before you and Isolde came, she had always been ranked first. Even Snow doesn’t stand a chance against her when it comes to combat skills with our Symbiosis skill cut off.”

Isolde squinted. ”I believe it depends on how good you are in your respective art. But Lucy’s right, Cecil does seem to have an advantage. She still goes to competitions and wins.”

’I have been boxing since I was eight. I’ve never defeated Victoria, but Cecil has been handled by professionals, not to talk about her activeness in engaging in their competitions.’ Godfrey clenched his teeth. He didn’t like this feeling of being pulled further and further away from his goal.

They finally arrived at the combat classroom, and everyone stood watching those who were called ascend the platform.

”Godfrey has been besting you so far. What are you going to do now that he’s in your fort?” Dale leaned toward Cecil, who had her arms crossed. Everyone dreaded facing her.

Cecil glanced at him from the corner of her right eye. ”You’ll find out when I face him.”

Dale frowned. ”You’ve grown audacious?”

”Can you beat me?” She snickered. ”I’ll blow off your bull’s head with a kick. Admit your position, Dale, and submit.”

Dale glared hard at her, but when the instructor called his and Cecil’s names, his expression changed.

Both of them ascended the platform. Dale took a standard boxing stance while Cecil also got into a fighting stance. She sized him up and blasted forth, closing the distance instantly.

Dale threw a punch, which she easily dodged, and slammed her elbow into his jaw, following it with a swift roundhouse kick that cruelly kissed his cheek, launching the already disoriented Dale to the floor heavily.

”She didn’t spare him.” Other students muttered as they couldn’t believe their eyes, seeing Dale with a bloody nose and mouth while Cecil towered over him.

Cecil licked her lips. So long had she yearned to beat Dale this much, but she had been afraid of his strength. After all, he was quite petty and would not spare her after the test.

Godfrey had given her this chance. He was the reason Dale was suspended and missed the trip, and she had been able to surpass him. Still, that didn’t mean she would not pummel Godfrey even more than she did Dale.

After all, that pretty face of his seemed well-built to receive hits. And according to what she calculated, Godfrey wasn’t petty, at least not as much as the other top boys in her class.

So he would receive his beating in peace and keep shut, knowing she was better than him in combat skills. Cecil would make sure Godfrey respected her after the thrashing she planned to dish out.

So next time, while he threw his weight around, he would be mindful around her.

The others she went against were cakewalks. Eventually, standing on the platform, she faced Godfrey. From the fights, she had seen how good he was at boxing, no one could handle his combo punches and uppercuts.

”Should I go easy on you?” She asked with a light smile.

Godfrey squinted. His face was solemn. After all, he faced someone who had won against professionals in her art. He hadn’t even defeated Victoria, even after eight years!

”I support Godfrey, but I don’t think he can win this fight.”

”It’s obvious right from the start.”

The whispers of her classmates made Isolde frown. She didn’t feel like watching Godfrey getting all bloodied from his mouth and nostrils.

”Don’t.” Godfrey assumed a stance. ”I’ll take it as an opportunity to learn.”

Cecil smirked. ”You suddenly want to learn from getting beaten up by me. Wow.”

”And you’re losing yourself, thinking you’re at the top of the world with just this little opportunity you’ve got. You’re no different from those you’ve beaten.”

Hearing that, Cecil propelled herself, attempting to clinch Godfrey and ruthlessly slam her knee into his face, but he evaded.

She followed up with a swift kick, hitting the side of Godfrey’s right arm. He grunted, ducking over her second kick and pushing himself forward for a punch.

The punch came swift and straight for her abdomen, but instead of pulling away, Cecil came closer, tanking the blow with a wide grin before clinching Godfrey and slamming her knee repeatedly at his face.

Godfrey protected his face with his arms, yet the sound of her hitting made everyone grimace.

’She’s got him,’ the instructor thought grimly.

....
