The Invincible Full-Moon System

Chapter 1901 1901: Ignored and Desperate

Kyran galloped with all he had.

His ferocious eyes were fixed on the charging horde right beside him, determined to stop them.

Noises that seeped into his ear—be it the rumbling growls from the horde, his own weary breath, or the sound of wind rushing against his body, all of them were muted. He can only hear the voice inside his mind.

A voice that belonged to the person whom he owed everything to.

ʼIʼm going to beat you up because you failed to protect Naela.ʼ

Rexʼs voice from the night when he almost lost Naela echoed inside the chamber of his mind.

ʼIf you let something like this happen again, I hope Naela dies. And even if she was able to somehow survive again—Iʼll kill her. So that her death would be your fault and you could drown in regret for the rest of your life.ʼ

Back then, he lost his mind on a rampage.

He lost sight of what mattered and allowed the anger inside to consume him.

Now, he wasnʼt going to make the same mistake again.

Naela didnʼt understand. She might never understand. But Kyran knew, without a shadow of doubt, that rushing back to her side was the right thing to do. Rex made sure he promised to keep Naela safe, so he did exactly that.

Regardless of the war, her safety is a priority for him.

Thatʼs what Rex made sure he understood.

However, that wasnʼt the only promise that he made to Rex.

Rex taught him more than that.

ʼGood, thatʼs good. That suffocating feeling is a reminder of what would happen if youʼre not strong enough—donʼt find a way to erase it, but remember it. Learn to live with it so that next time you will anticipate the bad things before they happen.ʼ

Back then, when serenity prevailed, Rex gave Kyran a piece of his mind.

One that gave a glimpse of how cruel and strict Rex was to himself when he made a mistake.

No matter how small it might be.

And his decision to leave the Mortal Realm for a moment proved that he trusted the others, including Kyran, that they could cover each other while he was gone. Kyran made the right decision to check on Naela, but his responsibility doesnʼt stop there.

Even though his decision was right, it doesnʼt mean thereʼs no cost for him to pay.

It doesnʼt mean he couldnʼt feel guilty for what had happened.

Especially when Naela was blaming him.

In his absence, the others got into big trouble, and he couldnʼt be there for them. Now, he couldnʼt sense Evelyn. Could not sense Gisitella. All that remains is Adhara. His links to them were severed—and his mind could only think of the worst.

That was the cost. That was the source of his guilt.

He canʼt turn back time to find a better way, but he can do everything in his power to stop the horde.

If he was too late to help the others, he canʼt be too late to save the ones in Dargena City.

Calidora.

No matter what, Kyran is going to stop the horde. Not a single strand of her hair would be sullied by the horde. He could not let that happen. ʼIt canʼt be me. It canʼt be me who caused him pain again. I would rather die. I would rather die than let that happen!ʼ

Knowing how much Rex had suffered for them, Kyran simply refused to be the reason heʼs in pain.

Swoosh—!

About fifty thousand crimson wolves.

Most were held back—and distracted by Flunra, and a few thousand more were being held back by the Elves and the Orcs. Still, so many remained. A terrifying multitude. One that the entire Clarentium Empire could never hope to match at this moment.

Each one of the crimson wolves is strong.

Even the weakest bunch among them is still not too far off from Kyran, while the strongest was beyond his grasp right now. But it doesnʼt matter. It wasnʼt hopeless yet. His devour would give him a temporary boost to handle the horde.

But he needed to eat some of them first.

ʼJust a few of them to start. Just a few before I can make a real impact!ʼ

Shing—!

An ice spike exploded from the ground, barring a single crimson wolf on the flank.

It didnʼt move or rotate around the ice spike.

Instead, the crimson wolf simply lowered its snout and charged headfirst, shattering the ice spike.

Kyranʼs eyes narrowed into focus as he summoned another ice spike. As the crimson wolf was about to collide with it again, he pounced with heightened focus. He wrapped his arm around the wolfʼs neck when it broke the ice spike, and yanked.

He was trying to separate one and kill it.

That ice spike is a distraction so that he could get into a good position to force it away from the horde.

But it wasnʼt that easy.

ʼSo strong!ʼ Kyran gritted his teeth and exerted every ounce of strength inside his body, but that barely moved the crimson wolfʼs head. He poured mana and moonlight energy—but it still felt like pulling on a boulder that hadnʼt moved for millions of years. ʼJust one! Just a little bit more!ʼ

Before he could pull it even a meter off course, the crimson wolfʼs body twisted violently like a gator spinning in water. It shook off Kyranʼs grip as though it were nothing, then sank its fangs deep into his left arm—all while still in motion.

After making a brutal jerk of its head, it snapped the bone and flung Kyran aside like he was nothing.

Kyran rolled across the ground and then quickly recovered.

His arm healed rapidly, and he made another pounce.

Unlike his failed attempt, heʼd targeted a weaker crimson wolf this time. The first one must have been mid-tier at least, maybe even a strong one. But this hunt went even worse. Before he could get close, the wolf was already in the air, slamming its skull into his chest and sending him flying.

It knew why Kyran was aiming for it, and it didnʼt give a chance.

Kyranʼs shoulder was wrenched this time; his arm dangled as he tried to keep up with the hordeʼs pace.

For the next minute, he made a dozen attempts.

Considering that the Blood Moon was above and the boost in strength from being the Beta Enforcer, as the horde was still within the territory between two allied kingdoms, the Elves and the Orcs, he should be able to at least succeed once.

His strength was elevated tonight, after all.

But he couldnʼt succeed even a single time.

Even when he attacked a wounded crimson wolf, which had one side of its body seared, no doubt Queen Shsnaelaʼs victim—he couldnʼt bring it down. It was as if the horde had already anticipated his move beforehand.

They let the wounded wolf get deeper into the horde, giving Kyran no way to target it.

Kyran was ignored.

And his attempts only led to him being more and more wounded.

Soon, it would be the territory of the Dwarves and the Tigermen. The change of terrain made that clear.

Another milestone for the horde to reach Dargena City.

Desperation settled in.

Instead of steering a single crimson wolf away from the horde, Kyran abandoned subtlety and attacked the horde head-on. He let loose a volley of sizzling-hot icicles, then drove in with claws bared. The shift in tactics worked.

His eyes flashed the moment one stumbled from having an icicle pierced through its hind leg.

Kyran immediately summoned a block of ice to cleave it from the horde and hauled it away.

Not even the horde could react fast enough to save it.

Seeing one crimson wolf separated made Kyran ecstatic. This was the momentum.

But then, out of nowhere, he stumbled.

Before he could deal the finishing blow, something clamped around his leg and pulled.

Kyran glanced down. Another crimson wolf had latched onto his leg, jaws clamping deeper, flesh and bone groaning toward the breaking point. A painful hiss escaped his lips. The other crimson wolf, the one he intended to kill, wrenched free and slipped away.

He changed his focus to the one biting his leg.

”RAARGHK!”

Blood moon energy seeped into Kyranʼs body, overwhelming him with uncontrolled bloodlust.

The crimson wolf thrashed its head side to side violently, then pulled hard, aiming to drag Kyran to the heart of the horde and bring him to his death. It was a force few entities in the Mortal Realm could even hope to withstand, especially when it was coupled by the excruciating, bone-deep agony of its bite.

There was no thought inside Kyranʼs mind.

Only the primal urge to kill and eat.

It doesnʼt matter if the bloodlust devoured him when his mind was hell-bent on stopping the horde.

Kyran made no effort to break free.

With raw strength and shadow-fast speed, he dropped to one knee and hardened his core, rooting himself like an anchor, making it difficult for the crimson wolf to drag him away. The crimson wolf heaved, but it didnʼt take long for it to realize it wasnʼt moving him any further.

Like a shadow, Kyran loomed over the crimson wolf.

Face snarling and body seething with icy aura.

Kyran wrapped his arms around the crimson wolfʼs neck and squeezed as hard as he could. Muscles corded and bulged, veins rose like ropes beneath his skin as he flexed with everything he had. The shift was instant.

Unlike seconds ago, the crimson wolf was prey now.

It trashed, desperate to escape, but a sharp, splintering crack of bone froze it mid-struggle.

Dead in its tracks.

Kyran broke its neck and killed it instantly.

But there was no time to revel. No time to celebrate his success.

He pulled his dead leg away and realized it was almost severed. And the Blood Moon energy made his regeneration slower than it should be. Kyran forced himself to position and began devouring the carcass, and it didnʼt taste good. It tasted like ash.

It was mostly blood, but not a normal one.

Even so, power surged from within as Kyranʼs constitution worked wonders.

Kyran tore a mouthful of flesh and swallowed, letting his body grow stronger while keeping both eyes fixated on the horde. It was getting further and further away rapidly, and if he donʼt move again soon, he would be left behind.

Too far to catch up again.

Just then, the sound of galloping seeped into Kyranʼs ears.

He turned to the other side right on time to see a crimson wolf charging straight at him.

It bit Kyranʼs torso from the side and threw him away.

Kyran bounced against the hard ground as his arm was torn, leaving only a functioning arm and a leg for him to use. His other two limbs were regenerating, but too slow for the situation. Looking back at where the carcass should be, he couldnʼt find it.

Only a puddle of blood was left behind, and the crimson wolf that attacked him had already charged away.

It came to only disrupt Kyran and melted the carcass so that he couldnʼt eat more.

”No…!” Kyran clenched his only hand into a fist. ”No, no, no, no! Please!!”

He bellowed.

A loud roar that was filled with frustration and desperation.

But in the grand scheme of the entire world or the entire area, his bellow was feeble. Insignificant.

In the distance, he heard the sound of explosions. The start of snow was only a mile away, and that only meant the horde had already reached the Dwarven territory. After this, thereʼs only the Dark Elves left before Dargena City.

Kyran pushed himself up and limped toward where the horde went.

Blood already drenched his entire body, making his dark fur glistening-slick.

”I canʼt stop…” He dragged his body forward, ignoring the pain that had already scorched his nerves to a numb sensation. ”I canʼt stop. I canʼt stop. I canʼt let them get to Dargena City. But how? How can I stop it? Iʼm not Rex.

”I wanted to be like him, but I canʼt.”
