Chapter 715: Chapter 715: So that’s how it is

Chi Enen knew how stubborn this man could be; once he had set his mind on something, it was almost impossible to change it. Likewise, if he wanted to ask a question, he would certainly pursue it relentlessly until he got to the bottom of it.

She didn’t dodge the question, but faced those obsessive eyes squarely and gave him a definite answer, “No.”

No!

No!

Li Beijue repeated those two words over and over, feeling for the first time that they sounded so pleasant to the ear. So pleasant that the anxiety that had been hanging in his heart finally fell away substantially.

But as the suspended heart settled down, a wave of uncontrollable anger surged up. He growled accusingly, “Then why did you pretend not to know me today noon? And why didn’t you look for me after you came back? Dammit! Who gave you the courage, did you eat bear’s heart and leopard’s gall, or just the bear’s gall?!”

“…”

Isn’t there bear’s gall in a heart and gall of bear and leopard? Chi Enen’s forehead was crossed by three black lines, and she really wanted to remind him that bear’s gall and the heart and gall of bear and leopard meant the same thing; there was no need to say them separately.

“Speak up!” She was just two seconds late in responding and he was already getting angrier. His handsome face was filled with uncontainable fury, and if looks could kill, she had no doubt she would have been strangled to death.

Chi Enen sighed, struggled briefly, and realized that her shoulders were still firmly pinned against the wall, unable to move. She could only resign herself to not struggling and looked into the man’s eyes. Her gaze was fiercer and more confident than before, yet as clear as ever, so clear that it seemed you could see right to the bottom, “I wasn’t pretending not to know you.”

Shit! How could she not have been!

Li Beijue spoke word by word, “Didn’t you call me President Li, and even did a self-introduction?”

Chi Enen suddenly understood what had happened; he had misunderstood. Given the circumstances at the time, she indeed couldn’t explain clearly, no wonder Li Beijue would have such a misunderstanding, even thinking she had amnesia. She met Li Beijue’s eyes with utmost sincerity, “I didn’t mean to pretend not to know you, nor to avoid looking for you. The first thing I did when I got off the airplane was to find you. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have met at noon.”

She still hadn’t explained why she introduced herself to him and addressed him dearly as President Li.

Chi Enen, as if foreseeing his next question, continued ahead of him, “I introduced myself to you and called you President Li because I wanted to…”

“Wanted to what?”

Chi Enen took a deep breath and frankly shared her hidden thoughts with him, “I wanted to start over with you with a brand-new identity, which is why I introduced myself.”

Their acquaintance six years ago was not pleasant, and their reunion five years ago was no better.

After being away for more than a year, she wanted to return with a new identity, a fresh demeanor, to be with him openly and honestly, to create many more wonderful memories.

That’s why she had reached out to him, calling him President Li and introducing herself.

Her intention was simply for them to start over on an equal and balanced footing, to create a beautiful new memory of getting to know each other. She had not expected Li Beijue to misunderstand it in this way, no wonder he had walked away on the spot.

Originally, she had planned to quickly deal with the matters at hand and look for him tomorrow, but instead, he cornered her first at the entrance of the building, raging. Thankfully, she hadn’t suffered amnesia, as he had thought. Otherwise, seeing his reaction, she could only imagine how much worse it could have been.
