Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 1237: Chapter 1237: Helping Out

The two of them took the transfer certificate to the police station; the filing here was quite fast, and they could start working the next day.

It only took three hours from start to finish to arrange their jobs.

”Xiao Tan went back to the hotel; let’s go to my house. The three of them must have endless things to talk about, and going back to ours would be inconvenient.”

Zhang Fusheng nodded, ”Alright, let’s go to your place.”

The Old Zhou couple heard their son’s job was now arranged and were too excited to speak.

The son’s job had always been a worry for them, but now they could finally relax.

”How should we thank them?”

Zhang Fusheng and Zhou Yongbing were both troubled, either with money or goods? They felt unable to repay the favor, and the debt would remain.

Su Yuanyuan listened to the two sisters talk about everything from marriage to the present.

”How’s Yuanyuan’s hometown?”

”Uncle the village chief passed away last year.”

The two sisters froze. Yang Hongwen was a respected figure in their minds; since their memories began, he was the village chief.

They knew about Su Yuanyuan’s good relationship with the chief. ”Yuanyuan, it’s normal for people to pass away.”

”I know, I was just a bit sad hearing the news.

Uncle treated me very well. I’m quite sad. If it wasn’t for his care, my life would have been tougher.”

”Yuanyuan, we’ll all face death someday,” Zhao Yanping said.

”I know, I haven’t even returned. Only the secretary went over.”

”Your work is busy.”

”Yes, work is too busy; I don’t like that kind of life.”

They dined at the Zhang Family’s house again that evening, and after dinner, ”Tomorrow, our family will leave. Xiao Li, remember the phone number I gave you. If you have difficulty solving anything, just call.”

”Yuanyuan, won’t we ever see you again?”

Su Yuanyuan smiled, ”Not necessarily, mainly because I don’t know where I’ll be, but once I’m settled, I’ll update you.”

Jianhua and some others knew Qi Yan’s family would leave the next day and were extremely reluctant.

The family returned to the hotel, ”Mom, I thought you would stay a few more days?” Qi Wen said.

Su Yuanyuan shook her head, ”It’s different now; I’ve changed, and so have they. It’s not about humanity or character; it’s about time; because of time.”

The children didn’t quite understand, but mom’s decision was final.

The next morning, before dawn, the family checked out and drove away.

”Yuanyuan, Feng Baoshan’s construction will take a few more days.”

”We’ll go gather ginseng.”

Qi Wen was delighted now; she was the most unsociable of the three siblings. Qi Yan, although quiet, didn’t dislike crowds; Qi Wen truly didn’t like them.

Tan Shaoting laughed, ”Let’s go visit my birthplace.”

The kids had never heard Tan Shaoting talk about his past.

”Dad, anyone else?”

Tan Shaoting shook his head, ”I don’t know, no close relatives left. Blood relatives, if any, don’t matter anymore.”

It takes three days from here, and they drive throughout, usually at night, finding nice places during the day for picnics or mingling with crowds.

Five days later, they finally arrived.

Still at that hotel, but no longer the Aunties serving.

The family completed the check-in, and Qi Wen eagerly dragged her two brothers outside.

Su Yuanyuan remembered when she lost memory and saw someone resembling Tan Shaoting.

She laughed and told Tan Shaoting about it. ”Back then, I didn’t remember you all; I just wanted three kids and thought of using this as leverage.”

Tan Shaoting laughed, ”Actually, if you had told me you wanted three children when I returned, I wouldn’t have refused.

I know Qi Yan and the other two hoped we could be together; even if you couldn’t recall us, they’d gradually persuade you.”

”Luckily, I regained my memory.”

”Yes, fortunately, you regained your memory.”

”Are you really going to visit that family?”

”Yes, let’s see how they’re doing.”

”Shall we wait for Qi Yan and the other two to join then?”

”Sure, let’s bring them along. Although I no longer have ties with them, perhaps seeing them is fate remaining to be fulfilled.”

Su Yuanyuan was agreeable. The next day, the family drove, and Tan Shaoting navigated back by memory.

Upon arriving, many people looked at him in astonishment.

”Tan Shaojing, you’ve really upgraded! You even have a car now?”

The mother and kids in the car were stunned but soon smiled.

”I’m not Tan Shaojing; I’m looking for him.”

”Really? You’re not Tan Shaojing; you look so alike!”

At that moment, an elderly woman approached. ”You’re Tan Shaoting, right?”

Su Yuanyuan and the children got out then, and two little ones stayed in the space to avoid daytime heat.

Tan Shaoting was surprised someone still remembered him. ”Ma’am, I’m Tan Shaoting.”

”I knew it, how could that Tan Shaojing look as upright?

Tan Shaoting, it’s been decades, where have you been? Your aunt said you were dead.”

”I’ve been living outside. Auntie, how are they now?”

”Your aunt passed away last year; it’s been almost twenty years since your uncle passed. Tan Shaojing and his siblings don’t live here.”

”Do you know where they are, Auntie?”

The elderly woman shook her head, ”No. They aren’t back often, but some say they’re in the county.”

”Thanks, Auntie.”

The mother and kids watched him get back in the car, joining him happily.

”Let’s go check out the place I once lived; probably nothing left now.”

And indeed, Tan Shaoting guessed right—the mud-brick house he once lived in had collapsed.

”Dad, you used to live here?” Qi Hong asked.

Tan Shaoting nodded, ”Yes, born here. Your grandparents passed early, so I lived here alone.”

After circling the place, Tan Shaoting felt little attachment; restoring memories brought more indifference to family ties.

Having minimal impressions of his parents, he couldn’t recall their faces; how could there be feelings now?

”Let’s go, we’ll burn paper for them.”

Their graves had shrunk significantly, but Tan Shaoting didn’t care, sending Qi Yan for a shovel, and the four worked to rebuild the mound.

A pure labor task taking nearly half an hour before the grave mound stood with effort.

Now the family squatted to burn paper, a closure within Tan Shaoting’s heart.
