Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 766: 766 Confirmed

Yang Liulang never thought there would be a day when he would get married and take a wife, but unexpectedly, he really got married before he turned thirty.

Three elders gathered together and within ten minutes, they picked out several dates. The final choice was left to the children.

”Hongling wants to go out with friends after the New Year, so let’s let her choose the date herself.”

”Let her go then, we can still hold on for now. It’s great for the kids to have the chance to see the world.

Back in our days, even if you wanted to go out, you didn’t dare. Now, society is much better.”

Zeng Yixin, who was serving tea, already knew that the elders of both families had chosen the dates and he returned to the kitchen. ”Sis, they’ve picked your wedding date.”

”So soon?”

Zeng Yixin nodded.

Zeng Hongling continued with her tasks, almost everything was prepared, just waiting to cook later.

”Sis, are you okay?”

”What could be wrong? Since I’ve agreed, marriage is marriage, right?”

”Are you still planning to go up north with Su Yuanyuan?”

”Yes, Yuanyuan will definitely be at the seaside on July 15th, and I have three years, so I’ll definitely go along.

And you also have time, why don’t you go back to the capital, I think you’re really happy working there.”

”Let’s talk about it later.”

The siblings started getting busy with the dishes. By 11:30, the meal was ready.

”I’ve had northern cuisine, I’ve also had seafood. From the smell, I can tell Hongling did a great job.”

”As long as Uncle Yang likes it. I’ll go call my friends.”

”No need to call, I came over because I smelled the fragrance.”

Su Yuanyuan and Yang Jiahui got to know each other, and everyone sat down to eat.

Yang Jiahui already knew this woman’s identity, he couldn’t tell just by looking at her, such a young and beautiful girl turned out to be so capable.

The meal was spent with praise. After eating, they sat down for tea.

Su Yuanyuan knew they had things to discuss, so she excused herself and left.

Zeng Hongling had already tidied up the kitchen and was called over by Zeng Yixin. She sat down properly.

”Hongling, how’s your Sixth Brother? You two really have fate since childhood.”

As a girl, Zeng Hongling just needed to keep her head down and pretend to be shy. The elders on both sides chatted among themselves, laughed with the two of the Zeng family after asking their questions.

Zeng Yixin looked at his sister, then at the calm-faced Yang Liulang, and shook his head, suddenly feeling that the two were indeed quite a match.

”Hongling, look, these are the dates we picked out, you choose one.

Honestly, I was thinking of going all out and holding a big event for you two, but given the current situation, there are quite a lot of people watching our families. So, you’ll have to endure a bit, but don’t worry, girl. Uncle Yang will surely compensate you in other ways.”

”Uncle Yang, it’s alright. In this day and age, no one holds grand events anymore. This marriage is between the two of us, I prefer it simple too.”

”Good girl, Uncle Yang knows what to do.”

Zeng Hongling took the paper, and Yang Liulang came over too. The two of them looked at the dates chosen by the three elders.

There were two dates before the New Year, none in the first lunar month, two in February, one in May, and one in August. No more dates after that.

”Uncle Yang. I came back this time mainly because I was worried about my grandpa and dad. I wanted to see them. But I still have to leave.

My grandpa and dad care about Yixin and me. They want us to go see the world, giving us five years.

I have three years left. I want to travel during these three years.”

”That’s a good thing. You’re in a great time at this age, able to see the outside world. In our days, your dad didn’t dare to.

I was thinking, let’s give your Sixth Brother a vacation too, let him go out with you, it would be nice for you two newlyweds.”

Zeng Hongling curled her lips, thinking how understanding her father was. Yang Liulang was in charge of all the Yang family’s books and paintings. Saying he gets a vacation so easily, and with the tone suggesting he goes with her, means a minimum of three years together.

”I really don’t know which day is better, maybe you guys should discuss it with my grandpa, I’m fine with anything.”

”Good child, really a good child, our Sixth Brother is truly lucky to have found a wife like you.

Uncle Zeng, Zhixuan, how about setting it for the tenth day of the twelfth lunar month, it gives us more than a month to prepare.”

Zeng Yaozu laughed heartily, ”Sure, the tenth it is. There’s nothing much to prepare since we’re not hosting a big event, we’ll just hand out some candies to the neighbors.”

”Alright, but what I’m giving to Hongling will be plenty, I’ll go prepare. The day after tomorrow is the sixth, even if we don’t hold an event, our two families can at least have a meal together.”

Yang Jiahui meant that the day after tomorrow would be equivalent to the engagement.

”Alright, the young couple is just starting, the more help our two families offer, the better.”

Zeng Yaozu meant that Zeng Hongling’s dowry wouldn’t be lacking either.

At this time, the young couple really didn’t have much opportunity to speak, they just listened quietly.

Then, the main people of both families began to discuss. After all, a marriage is really not a small thing.

The house will be the three rooms where Yang Liulang currently lives, and he will be given two shops. Of course, Yang Jiahui will also give a separate room to Zeng Hongling as compensation.

The rest would be gold and silver. Although these things aren’t in circulation now, families with a long history still value them highly.

The Yang family will give one hundred taels of gold, two hundred taels of silver, two thousand yuan, and the rest includes jade, gold jewelry, ornaments, and furniture that’s already been decided.

”Each of the nine brothers gets the same. From my private savings, I’ll give them an extra five thousand yuan.”

”Jiahui, that’s really sufficient, your family is large but don’t strain yourself.”

”It’s fine, it’s fine. I can’t help but like Hongling.”

Currently trending items like bicycles and radios are also converted to cash, since after the wedding they won’t be around to use them. It’s better to give them the money to buy later.”

The Zeng family’s dowry matches the betrothal gift, though the cash isn’t as much. Zeng Yaozu supplemented with one hundred taels of gold, making it reasonable.”

The discussions lasted until after five in the afternoon, Zeng Hongling had already gone to make meat pies, and the Yang father and son stayed for dinner.

This time, Su Yuanyuan came to the kitchen to help, with Zeng Yixin tasked with tending the fire and assisting.

They made shrimp soup, meat pies, and some small cold dishes.

”Hongling, you really made a grand entrance without making a sound. Wow, in just over a month, you’ll belong to someone else.”

”I’ll still be Zeng Hongling. And both families agreed to let us travel for three years,” Zeng Hongling said proudly.
