Avoiding Death in an Otome Game

Chapter 52: Chapter - 52: Turning Point

Two months have passed since the day of the test and the atmosphere around the academy has completely changed.

The academy has definitely phased criticism because of what happened on the day of the test, especially considering the fact that the students in danger were from noble households and even the second prince of the kingdom was also there.

But the reason behind the change in the academy’s atmosphere was completely different. The change isn’t just because of the stricter supervision but the main reason is the election campaign for the upcoming student council elections.

Every year, the student council president is elected by the student body and has a term period that lasts for one year. Between this time, the president has the right to appointment and removal of any member of the council.

The current student council president is Jasmine Curzon, one of the capture targets of the game Jin Curzon’s elder sister and the eldest daughter of the Duke of Casus, a territory in the northwestern part of the kingdom.

She is a third year student and will graduate after this year’s annual exams and before the graduation, she will have to pass her presidency to a second year student elected by the election.

And the top two candidate names remain the same as they were in the game, Jin Curzon and Ralf Walker, the two capture targets in the second year.

In the game, Jin wins the council election in both his route and the main route because of his background as both the son of a duke and the brother of the current president.

While Ralf only wins in his own route, after gaining massive popularity in the next event of the game. The event which finally determines which route the player takes.

And also the turning event for the villainess Elena Mizo which resulted in her embracing the path of evil magic...

Elena’s sixteenth birthday.

.....

Kai’s POV:-

”What happened Kai? You seem lost in thought.” Elena asked me as I sat absentmindedly on my chair.

Currently we are in a certain cafe not far from the academy. We once ate a cake here which Elena quite liked, so this has become our occasional hang out place.

And by ’We’ I mean, me, Elena, Hina and Lucian.

Quite a weird combination, but the reason is obvious, to escape the eyes of the campaign members who want our support.

After the talks of the ’incident’ during the test and the details of out fight went out by some unknown source....or probably by Luna and her two friends. The three of us; Elena, Hina and I have suddenly become popular in the first year.

And Lucian being the second prince and the first year representative, already have enough fame to influence the decision of the voters.

And the other members of our group are busy in their own things, so four of us somehow ended up here together.

”It is nothing, I was just thinking about what I should give you on your birthday.”

I replied naturally, but of course it was a lie. Her birthday gift is a matter of concern but the bigger concern I have right now is the ’incident’ that happens on her birthday in the game.

That major event is coming near and I am still unsure of how to handle it, because the scale of the ’incident’ will cover the whole academy and the only way I can think of avoiding it is to leave the academy.

At least for the day of the event, we can take a day off and go somewhere far from the academy, it will not be too much if a few students are missing for a day. .

”I will treasure anything you give me.”

Elena replied like it is a matter of fact. But honestly her straightforward attitude sometimes make speechless.

”Ah your birthday is coming near? When?”

Hina who was listening from the side asked, though she might already be aware of the day and its event since she even knew about the hidden loot.

”It’s next tuesday, but I don’t think I will be celebrating it this year since we have extra curriculum classes that day.” Elena replied with a bitter smile.

”Then how about, we take a day off?”

I suggested it after thinking about it. There’s no other way to hundred percent avoid the event and I am not fifty fifty like the previous time.

Elena looked at me with a surprised expression, definitely not expecting me to propose such an idea.

”But, will it be fine?” Elena asked, knowing that we have an important class that day and taking absence will result in the questioning by the teachers.

”It’s fine, I will make a request to the teacher for both of us.” I replied, firm with my decision of avoiding the event.

”Wow, I didn’t expect you to be so bold. Honestly you are an inspiration.” Lucian who has been just watching the exchange from the side until now said.

”What are you saying?” I asked, doubtful of what he might have understood from my words.

”Ah? Are you not just planning a date for lady Elena’s birthday?” He replied casually, his tone sometimes makes me forget that he is a prince.

*A date?*

It wasn’t my plan, but I can’t deny it in front of Elena and don’t think calling it a date is a bad idea.

”Our first date....” Elena muttered with a pleased smile as she took a bite of her cake.

*Wait! Doesn’t it mean I will have to now prepare for a date?!*

.....

In a certain room in a certain villa not far from the academy, a young lady is writing in her diary.

Her looks might be comparable to the most beautiful actresses of the modern earth and her long red hairs just add more charm to her.

Her crystal blue eyes move occasionally as she thinks over her future actions as she notes them down with her ink pen.

”Aa....The story is all over the place, I will have to somehow pull it together. Kai Shen has taken the place of Lucian Ripon as villainess’s fiance. Hina is probably not going to interfere in their relationship.”

She muttered under her breath, knowing no one can eavesdrop on her since the place is protected by high level magic tools.

”It feels like both these people know about the story but...”

”It seems like they are completely unaware of its impact. Or maybe they are only aware of the first half. It makes sense since neither of them are trying to prevent the catastrophe.”

She muttered as she writes down the details of the next event just in case she may forget any detail later.

If Kai would have seen her diary then he may notice that it contains the whole structure and the incidents of the event, some of which even he isn’t aware of.

Elena’s sixteenth birthday. The first time she celebrates it with her fiance, the second prince Lucian Ripon. Her maid maya arrived at the academy in order to prepare Elena so she would look the prettiest that day.

But their plan of celebration gets spoiled because, Lucian got stuck in a room with Hina and the other two capture targets during the ’incident’. The event where the heroine has to finally choose her route and no matter what route she takes, the main capture target prince Lucian would still fall in love with her.

The incident involved all three capture targets receiving severe injuries when fighting the strong enemies that attacked the academy. And they were not the only ones to be critically injured, several students suffered in the attack.

But no one died except for one person, Elena’s maid Maya, who was the only one with Elena at the time of attack, her closest friend.

Not having her supposed fiance at her side, on the day of her birthday. When she needed him, he was busy protecting Hina.

Elena, who was unable to protect herself and her closest friend from the enemies, losing the one person she regarded as a friend, all because she wasn’t strong enough, started to develop hatred.

And the fact that the group who attacked were the enemies of the royal family just added more to her hatred towards them and encouraged her to get stronger, even if she has to take the wrong path.

This finally resulted in her becoming hungry for strength as she accepted the offer of that hidden evil magic user in the academy and started practicing evil magic.

The lady wrote until here and stopped thinking for a moment ”this is the essential part. No matter what happened to the relationship chart, Elena needs to fall on the evil path that’s what matters.”

”It is the only way to destroy the ’seed’ and delay the calamity.”

....

In another part of the capital city, far from the royal magic academy, a figure is standing in a corner, completely covered in a cloth and their presence is almost undetectable by the people passing by.

Until one of those people stopped and turned around, he was a man in his thirties. ”.....may the goddess arise again.”

The man whispered so quietly that it is doubtful if the person in the white cloth even heard him.

”.....may the other one fall” The person in white cloth replied similarly in a whisper and handed the man a letter.

”The target is set. Finish him off during the operation, I will handle the rest...” The person in white whispered, and by the time their words reached the end, they had already turned around and walked away.

The man bows lightly.

”As you wish...selector.”
