Avoiding Death in an Otome Game

Chapter 17: Chapter - 17: Entrance Test I

Another two weeks later.

It is finally the day for the practical test of the entrance exam. Yesterday was the written test and I think I did pretty well in that.

Well the exam is not to determine the qualifications anyway since most of the students are nobles and will get admission even without the test.

It is more to stir competition and make a ranking ladder to divide the good students from the bad students. After all every country understands that youth needs a competitive environment in order to grow.

I reached the ’Yona Royal Magic Academy’ late in the afternoon because my test will be in the third shift.

The practical test is divided into three shifts, so as not to crowd at once and cause trouble for the students and also for the teachers.

A thoughtful action that even several Institutes from the modern world in my previous life lacked.

As I got off the carriage and was ready to head inside the academy, I saw another familiar carriage arriving.

A girl walked out of the carriage in a dress that fits for combat, it’s rare to see a noble girl in such a dress but I have already seen her like this before.

”Good afternoon Lady Elena”

”Good afternoon Lord Kai, how do I look?”

Elena asked me as she showed me her dress, it is different from the one that I saw a few years ago.

She has gotten taller than that time and her body has also started to develop.

”You look great, it really suits you”

”Thank you”

Honestly she looks really pretty, her usually loose hairs are tied in a braid and gives her a different look.

”By the way, can you please drop the ’lady’ part and just call me Elena. I mean I am your fiancee now”

Elena said as we were walking towards the test location.

She adjusted with this fact terrifyingly fast, or am I just the slow one?

”Then you should also drop the ’Lord’, I will feel awkward if I am the only one changing the way to address you”

”No I can’t do that, among nobles even a wife has to address her husband with honorifics in public”

I can’t deny that logic.

Though female heirs are allowed to inherit their parents’ title and territory in the absence of a male heir but the society here is still mostly patriarchy.

Even my mother doesn’t address my father without title or honorific in public but that’s on her own volition.

They are a real lovey dovey couple in private.

It sometimes makes me feel like the marriage of my previous life’s parents was so hollow.

”Then you can call me without honorific in private at least, otherwise I will feel weird”

”Okay”

She replied rather happily. Did she wanted it from the start?

I didn’t voice out my question. It is fine with me, I also sometimes feel tired of acting so formally.

”Wait!”

I heard a voice from behind me and recognized it without even looking.

”Ian?”

He came walking at a fast pace as running is not allowed in the academy’s campus.

”My test is also in the third shift, am I late?”

”No we have just arrived a few minutes ago, there is still some time before it starts.”

I replied to Ian’s question.

”Oh, good afternoon Lady Elena and sorry to disturb your couple time”

Couple time?

”I-it is not like that Lord Ian. We were just going for the test”

”Don’t worry Elena, he is just kidding”

”Wo, you are already addressing her casually. Progress is much faster than I thought”

Ian gave me a look that seems to say ’I am proud of you’.

”Shouldn’t we be walking instead of wasting time in chatter”

I said with a strict voice directed towards Ian.

”Sorry about that, let’s go”

Ian said and again walked in a fast pace ahead of us, while Elena and I walked side by side at an even pace.

We reached the practice field of the academy which is the venue for the test.

There were already quite a few students present.

”Ah, lady Elena good afternoon”

A girl with bob cut hair walked up to us and greeted Elena in a friendly manner.

Isn’t she Lily? How does she know Elena?

Wasn’t she supposed to become the heroine’s friend in the game?

”Good afternoon Lily, and I told you to drop the honorifics”

”Sorry, I am used to it. And also is he....”

Lily indicated towards me, she must be wondering why Elena and I came together.

”He is Lord Kai, my finances”

She openly said it!

Sometimes Elena really acts bold, and here I am still finding it difficult to adjust with the fact.

”And Lord Kai, she is my friend Lily, her father is from a prestigious alchemist family”

Elena introduced Lily to me.

Now that I remember, in the game Lily also once told the heroine that she once visited the Mizo family’s territory because it is a place rich in natural herbs and all, but since it was irrelevant to the story, I forgot about that.

”It is a pleasure to meet you Lady Lily”

I greeted her.

”Nice to meet you, Lord Kai. And also congratulations to both of you for your engagement”

”Thank you”

”Thank you”

Elena and I replied almost simultaneously.

”Ah, I didn’t know you were already acquainted with Lady Elena”

Ian who was listening from the side until now said.

Wait, so you also know Lily?

Though they met at the second prince’s birthday party but it was almost five years ago.

”How do you know Lady Lily?”

I asked him out of curiosity.

Both of them were minor background characters in the game so not much was explained about them in it.

”Well, we live in the same city and Lily’s father is also a well known figure among noble families”

Why do I feel like there is more to it than he is saying?

*clap**clap*

”Attention Everyone!”
