Chapter 399 Levels of Fragments

Kyle experimented a bit with his new Wind Movement Fragment.

ʼSo, in essence, I can move myself with Wind Ether by simply converting lower levels of speed into higher levels of speed in exchange for Ether.ʼ

ʼThe conversion between levels consumes Ether, but itʼs not as much Ether as if I were to accelerate manually.ʼ

ʼIf there is Air or Wind Ether around me, I can use some Ether from the surroundings to subsidize my Ether consumption. If Iʼm underwater or in another place with no Wind Ether, I have to use my own Wind Ether. That would decrease the advantage the Fragment brings me, but the advantage is still there.ʼ

Kyle assumed a neutral position and moved himself through the air at increasing speeds.

Surprisingly, acceleration was the least of his problems.

Since he was directly interacting with the levels of speed, Kyle accelerated at an unreasonable rate.

He went from zero to 700 kilometers per hour in barely 0.2 seconds.

Then, Kyle stopped again in less than 0.2 seconds.

The gravitational forces due to his acceleration and deceleration were quite significant, and Kyle felt a bit uncomfortable in the stomach.

ʼThat uses a lot of Ether,ʼ Kyle thought after he stopped moving.

Just now, he had used up almost 2% of his Ether,

ʼHowever, I also jumped from level zero to level three. Thatʼs four different conversions, which each eat up some Ether.ʼ

ʼI should make more tests.ʼ

For the next couple of minutes, the green hawk watched as a man with crossed arms shot through the sky without moving his body in any way.

It was like Kyle was just standing there while his body suddenly shot into the sky at impressive speeds.

After some more tests, Kyle finally had a formula for how much Ether he needed to use if he only relied on his Wind Ether to move.

ʼAlright, time to test my actual speed.ʼ

Kyleʼs feet touched the ground again, and he bent his knees.

BANG!

Then, Kyle exploded forward, the ground beneath him cracking.

He ran in one direction while only using his physical power.

His maximum speed was about 500 kilometers per hour.

Then, he activated his enchantment of Windʼs Speed, increasing his speed to about 700 kilometers per hour.

After that, he activated a couple of basic techniques like Wind Dash.

Now, his top speed was about 850 kilometers per hour.

Kyle deactivated his techniques and readied a max-level Ignition.

BANG!

When Ignition launched, Kyleʼs speed reached around 980 kilometers per hour.

However, his Ether was dropping at around 5% per second.

That was when Kyle used his Fragment of Wind Movement to improve his speed.

BANG!

Kyleʼs speed shot from 980 kilometers per hour to about 1,250 kilometers per hour.

And the craziest part was that he was still just using 5% of his Ether per second.

A moment later, Kyle deactivated Ignition without deactivating his Fragment of Wind Movement.

His speed dropped to a bit below 1,000 kilometers per hour.

Yet, Kyle was barely using more Ether than he was regenerating.

He could run at these speeds for over an hour before needing to take a break.

1,000 kilometers per hour was seen as a hard limit for people in the Second Realm.

The fastest person in the Second Realm could, at most, reach something like 950 kilometers per hour.

Reaching these speeds required an improved body for the physical power and an improved Center for the additional Ether.

Then, the person needed the Windʼs Speed Enchantment cast on them.

On top of that, the person needed a small True Body.

Lastly, they needed a technique that pushed their speed even further.

That was the only way someone in the Second Realm could reach these speeds, and very often, these speeds were only reached for short bursts.

After all, a person in the Second Realm could only have so much Ether.

However, with Fragments, these speeds could be pushed even further.

While it wasnʼt unheard of that some people with Aristocratʼs Bodies managed to comprehend a Fragment in the Second Realm, it was still quite rare.

Yet, there was one thing that was certain.

No one who was currently alive had ever managed to comprehend a Fragment comparable to the Fragment of Windʼs Speed in the Second Realm.

In general, one could split Fragments into five levels. The higher the level, the more useful it was during battle.

Level one Fragments were Fragments like the Rank F Metal Material Fragment or the Rank E Metal Material Fragment.

They were useless. They didnʼt increase oneʼs power in any way.

Level two Fragments were Fragments like the Rank D Metal Material Fragment or the Water Heat Fragment.

There might be some niche applications that could maybe make them useful in certain situations, but all in all, they were not very useful.

Level three Fragments were Fragments like the Rank C Metal Material Fragment or the Metal Vibration Fragment.

There were definitely some applications. These Fragments could be used in a couple of ways to augment oneʼs power.

Level four Fragments were Fragments like the Rank B Metal Material Fragment or the Wind Movement Fragment.

They had a significant impact on oneʼs power. Understanding a level four Fragment could completely transform someoneʼs power.

Level five Fragments were essentially Fragments that reached into the Realm of Transcendents. Most of the time, these Fragments were just a tiny bit away from Laws.

The Rank A Metal Material Fragment was a good example. Rank S Materials were already considered in the Realm of Transcendents, and the Rank A Metal Material Fragment allowed the user to synthesize perfect Rank S Materials.

Someone who knew that Fragment wouldnʼt even need Rank S Materials since they could create better ones themselves.

Another example was the Skysand Corrosion Fragment. Skysand was already a level higher than regular sand. One could view Skysand almost like a Rank S Material.

King Skysand knew the Law of Sand, which gave him perfect mastery over any kind of sand… that wasnʼt Skysand.

However, by replacing the Fragment of Sandʼs Corrosion with the Fragment of Skysandʼs Corrosion, the power of King Skysandʼs Core Spark increased significantly.

The Fragment of Sandʼs Corrosion was maybe a level two Fragment. Sand wasnʼt super corrosive. The most it could do was grind against something, but if one used grinding, one could also just use metal or stone. Sure, it could have its uses, but it wasnʼt super great.

However, Skysand was exceptionally corrosive. Corrosion was its strongest property.

The Fragment of Skysandʼs Corrosion could almost exhibit the power of an entire Law on its own.

That was why it was a level five Fragment.

While Kyle hadnʼt comprehended a level five Fragment, he had comprehended a level four Fragment.

This was basically the strongest thing he could comprehend without comprehending a Law.

In fact, Kyle hadnʼt even made proper use of the Fragment yet. After all, he was just using the principles.

Only when he created techniques, Spells, or Methods that incorporated the principle would the true power of the Fragment of Wind Movement be unveiled.
