CAIUS: Crown of Threads and Shadows

The air inside the castle chamber hall was thick with dual-core energy, carrying a suffocating physical weight.

Caius leaned back upon his seat, his dark mantle draping over the carved armrest. At his side, the massive shadow-striped phantom tiger leaned its colossal head against his knee, letting out a deep rumble as Caius idly scratched behind its ears. Flanking the throne stood his inner court: the dark elf princesses, the towering dark demon entity radiating quiet spatial distortion, and Old Bones, standing tall and dangerous in his restored physical prime.

Before them all knelt Grand Commander Teryn.

Caius looked down at the warrior, his violet-gold pupils burning with absolute authority. ”Teryn,” Caius spoke, his voice cutting through the quiet hum of the hall. ”The Solarian Guard of the old realm is dead. I have no need for gilded soldiers who swore oaths to a fragile, corrupt crown.”

Teryn kept his eyes fixed on the cold stone. ”Sovereign... my men are soldiers without a master. If you command our execution for our past allegiance, we will accept it.”

”I do not execute useful steel,” Caius said softly. He raised his right hand and snapped his fingers.

The ambient shadows in the center of the hall twisted violently, collapsing inward to form a looming silhouette clad in jagged, obsidian-plate armor. Its visor glowed with an ethereal violet-gold flame, radiating a terrifying kinetic pressure that made Teryn’s breath hitch.

”I am officially disbanding the Solarian Guard,” Caius declared, gesturing toward the shadowy construct. ”In its place, I am establishing the Obsidian Order. The six newly appointed kings will govern their own independent realms, but you will belong to none of them. The Order shall serve as my direct physical arm.”

Teryn’s head snapped up in shock. ”Your physical arm...?”

”You will not be mind-controlled puppets like those marked in battle,” Caius continued, leaning forward. ”You and your men will retain your minds, your tactical intellect, and your free will. I will bestow upon you high-tier dark cultivation methods to elevate your skills far beyond human limits. But the price is an absolute tether to my throne.”

Caius opened his palm. A smooth, polished obsidian bead materialized, floating gently through the air until it hovered inches from Teryn’s face. It hummed with liquid dark-spatial energy, casting a deep violet light across the commander’s blood-stained armor.

Teryn reached out with a trembling hand. The instant his fingers wrapped around the stone, a surge of raw, unadulterated power flooded through his meridians. Old battle wounds knitted together, his stagnant core expanded, and a high-tier kinetic resonance thrummed in his veins. The elevation was immediate, intoxicating, and undeniable.

”I want volunteers from the former Solarian Guard to form this order,” Caius said, his eyes pinning the commander in place. ”Will you lead them?”

Without a second of hesitation, Teryn slammed both knees onto the stone, pressing the bead against his chest. ”I will serve you till death, Sovereign!”

The following day, Caius formally founded the Obsidian Order on the parade grounds of Castle Precipice.

Cleaving the earth with his blade, Caius channeled dark spatial mana to form a massive, churning Black Pool of liquid void energy. One by one, two thousand volunteer knights from the disbanded Solarian Guard, having stripped off their gilded armor, stepped into the dark waters. Each warrior was baptized in the void pool, their bodies purged of human physical limitations.

Following the baptism, a precise surgical procedure was performed upon each candidate, implanting a refined obsidian bead directly above their core meridians.

The results were immediate and terrifying. The implanted bead acted as a high-tier spiritual conduit, siphoning and absorbing ambient mana directly into their bodies. Their combat effectiveness tripled overnight, and standing in tight formation, the newly forged knights radiated a low, resonant kinetic pressure that vibrated through the flagstones.

To ground this new force, Caius decreed the partition of a new territory. He carved out a swath of land located directly beside his personal domain of Castle Precipice, taking territory from a smaller duchy of the former Solarian Kingdom. This new land holding became the official sovereign territory of the Obsidian Order, designed specifically as a fortified buffer state between the mundane vassal kingdoms and Caius’s private grounds.

Within the month, massive construction began across this newly designated buffer zone. Under Caius’s directive, stonemasons, Arachne weaversmiths, and dark elf architects broke ground on grand, fortified Chapter Lodges: monolithic black-stone preceptories featuring private cultivation halls, subterranean vaults, and elite sparring grounds.

Standing atop the high battlements of Castle Precipice alongside Caius, Old Bones looked out toward the rising black spires of the Order’s new territory. Beyond it lay the distant borders of the independent vassal kingdoms.

Old Bones let out a soft, admiring sigh. By placing his physical arm in its own dedicated territory between the mundane world and Castle Precipice, Caius had created an impenetrable boundary. Dangling genuine power, prestige, and superior cultivation methods before them, he had turned the former defenders of the old crown into an immovable shield, forever safeguarding his private sanctuary.
