FREE USE in Primitive World

Right there, sitting at that small wooden table with his mouth full of beast meat, Sol made a silent, ironclad promise to himself.

He would never cower again.

He would not hide behind these wooden walls waiting for the monsters to come. He would not let the sheer scale of beings like Elyndra paralyze him with fear. He was going to live this second life spectacularly. He was going to push his limits, devour his enemies, and take whatever the hell he wanted from this universe.

And so what if he died doing it? So what if an enemy tribe or a Layer 4 Apex finally got the best of him?

At least this time, he would die standing on his own two feet. At least this time, he would die happily, completely devoid of regrets, knowing he had swung his sword until the very last breath.

In that exact moment, a profound, heavy transformation rippled through Sol’s mind.

It wasn’t a physical level-up. It was a complete spiritual refinement. The constant, heavy, suffocating anxiety that had been wrapped around his heart since the moment he transmigrated… the hidden, subconscious terror of being a weak mortal trapped in a world of gods… finally snapped.

The heavy, dark fog in his brain evaporated. The whole world suddenly seemed to become infinitely sharper, fresher, and purer.

He realized now why he had been acting so extreme lately.

He hadn’t shown it on his face, keeping up the cold, arrogant, badass facade. But deep down, in the darkest, hidden corners of his mind, there had always been that frantic, gnawing threat of imminent death. It was the reason he had fought like a rabid dog on the battlefield. It was the reason he had completely lost control in the Shamanic Grove.

When he was having sex with Zephyra, pinning her to the mat and breaking her down with the Free Use power, he hadn’t just been fulfilling his lust. He had unconsciously been venting all of that suffocating, terrifying anxiety. He had been desperately trying to drown the overwhelming fear of this savage world in the absolute, blinding extremes of physical pleasure and dominance.

And honestly? He couldn’t even blame himself for it.

This world was just that uniquely, ridiculously dangerous. It broke weak minds in a matter of days. You had to find a way to cope, or you went insane.

But he didn’t need to cope anymore. He didn’t need to drown the fear, because the fear was gone. Replaced by a cold, sharp, absolutely unyielding will to conquer.

Sol swallowed the last bite of his food, setting his hands down on the table. He let out a long, slow breath, his posture completely relaxing for the first time since he had arrived in the Great Orrath.

The sudden, heavy shift in his aura was so distinct that it completely derailed the argument happening over his head.

Kira and Zeyra both stopped bickering mid-sentence. They turned their heads, looking at him with genuine confusion. The tense, coiled-spring energy that usually rolled off Sol in thick, aggressive waves had completely vanished.

“Sol?” Kira asked, her golden eyes narrowing with slight concern. “Are you alright? You just completely spaced out.”

“Did you eat too fast?” Zeyra added, leaning in slightly, her dark eyes scanning his face. “I told you the Stone-Horn meat was too heavy for a recovering meridian network.”

Sol looked at the two of them. He looked at the fierce, fiercely loyal Kira, and the ambitious, dangerously beautiful spirit warrior.

The heavy, cold mask of indifference he usually wore completely melted away.

Sol smiled. It wasn’t his usual dark, arrogant smirk. It wasn’t the fake, strained smile he had forced when waking up from the nightmare. It was a massive, bright, entirely genuine smile that reached all the way to his silver-crimson eyes.

“I’m perfectly fine,” Sol said, his voice lighter, clear, and completely devoid of the heavy gravel it usually held.

He reached out, casually grabbing the heavy wooden platter from Kira and the carved clay bowl from Zeyra, stacking them together.

“In fact,” Sol chuckled, leaning back in his wooden chair and crossing his arms comfortably behind his head. “I don’t think I’ve ever felt better in my entire life.”

He looked between the two girls, his eyes flashing with a playful, highly proactive spark that instantly made both of them slightly nervous.

“But you know,” Sol continued, his grin widening as he actively decided to shift the dynamic in the room. “Listening to you two argue is starting to give me a headache. If you’re going to fight over me, you could at least make it interesting.”

Kira’s face instantly flushed a bright, furious red, the tips of her ears burning. “Nobody is fighting over you, you arrogant idiot!”

“Oh, really?” Sol teased mercilessly, leaning forward and resting his elbows on the table, locking his eyes directly on Kira’s. “Then why did you practically sprint here with the best cut of meat in the entire settlement the absolute second you heard I was out of bed?”

Kira’s mouth opened and closed twice, totally completely stumped for an excuse, her warrior composure completely shattering.

Zeyra let out a highly amused, triumphant laugh, clearly enjoying Kira’s embarrassment.

“Don’t laugh too hard, snake,” Sol quickly pivoted, turning his sharp gaze directly onto Zeyra. “You brought me fruits that take five years to grow in the sacred, secret little grove. I didn’t realize the ambitious genius of the Veynar tribe was so desperate for my attention.”

Zeyra’s triumphant laugh caught right in her throat. The smug, sultry confidence on her face faltered instantly, a faint, rare blush dusting her flawless cheeks.

“It was merely a… a tactical investment in a tribal asset,” Zeyra stammered, crossing her arms defensively and looking away, her massive green snake spirit practically tying itself in a knot around her neck.

Sol threw his head back and laughed out loud. It was a real, booming laugh that echoed in the small room, completely shattering the heavy, oppressive tension of the Great Orrath.

He wasn’t the scared kid from Earth anymore. He was Sol. Layer 2 Spirit Warrior. And he was finally, absolutely ready to start living.
