Chapter 1273: Chapter 1272: The Truth Behind the Truth

Master Kamel quietly observed the interference patterns displayed on the silver-white alloy sheet, and on the other end of the communication device, Grand Astrologer Vilania also quietly watched the images presented on the sheet.

It was the ”truth” she had pursued for half a century.

In this world, every corner was filled with ”magic background interference.” This ubiquitous interference made it impossible for scholars to directly observe the interference phenomena of magic under specific conditions. Noise would cause the observation devices to be overexposed. To solve this problem, scholars needed to create an ”Ideal Dark Room” that could completely isolate magic background interference. However, in the real world, Vilania and her team had spent half a century trying to achieve this goal—until today.

The entire War God’s Divine Realm was like a giant ”Dark Room”—its ”darkness” wasn’t in the optical sense, but a state of magic vacuum. And in this dark room where the underlying magic interference was isolated, explorers who had been seeking the truth for so long finally glimpsed the true secret of this world’s essence.

After a moment of silence, Kamel finally spoke softly, ”It really has the properties of waves...”

He hadn’t expected that when this moment truly arrived, his tone would be so calm. In the next second, he suddenly seemed to hear a cheering sound like mountains and seas echoing from all directions—the cheering overlapped, like a roaring wave, prompting this ancient Master Mage to instinctively look up and around an empty arena where rows of empty seats sat, a phantom projection of the War God sat high on a throne, as if invisible cheered for a miracle, even the gods cast approving glances, yet the next moment, these illusions vanished into smoke, leaving the arena still barren, and the phantom on the throne remained an illusion.

Kamel seemed to awaken from a dream, seeking confirmation from those around him if those visions had just occurred, receiving only confused and tense responses—that was just an illusion.

But even if it was an illusion, this ancient Master Mage remained deeply affected. He looked at the nearby phantom figure, Malm Dunite, who stood quietly, this War God Pope seemed to have a slight smile on his face, nodding gently after noticing Kamel’s gaze.

”I don’t quite understand what you are doing, but I suppose it is very important. If the Lord were still here, He would most certainly smile at the mortals’ courage and success.”

Far away, in the Sacred Stars Temple, Vilania finally withdrew from the holographic projection. This elf Grand Astrologer stood silently on the platform for a long time, until the apprentices nearby became nervously confused. Only then did she take a long breath, suddenly blooming on her face was a radiant, beautiful smile—a smile the apprentices hadn’t seen in a thousand years.

The young apprentice standing nearby (six hundred and fifty years old) couldn’t help but let a strange thought seep into his mind: If this smile was shown to any gentleman, the mentor could have married long ago...

”Go bring out my best wine!” The Grand Astrologer suddenly turned her head, her enthusiastic tone startling the apprentices, ”I want to celebrate! I want to celebrate properly!!”

”Y-yes, Mentor...” The apprentice hastily replied, but as he was about to leave, the mentor continued to call out, ”Oh, and tell Sodalim, didn’t he want to see me the day before? Tell him to wait for me on the upper platform! This time, I plan to have a good talk with him!”

The apprentice was suddenly caught off guard, as if she couldn’t believe what she had just heard. She stared blankly at the famous Grand Astrologer, ignoring how inappropriate it was to look at one’s mentor in this manner: ”You mean... Mr. Sodalim? You ultimately chose Mr. Sodalim?! This is truly surprising... ah, alright, I will inform him immediately! Is there anything else you want me to convey to Mr. Sodalim?”

”Nothing else to convey. He’s already my defeated adversary—after all, we’ve argued over this matter for thirty years. It’s time to make that fool recognize reality,” Lady Vilania smiled happily, her smile brighter than ever, ”I will shove the fact of magic’s wave properties into his face, and just like the bet we made thirty years ago in our first argument—he must jump off the highest tower of the Sacred Stars Temple!”

The young apprentice instantly realized their judgment was skewed: ”...Ah?”

Yet the Grand Astrologer was already glaring, ”What are you waiting for!? Go quickly!”

The little episode in the Silver Empire didn’t affect Kamel’s experiment on-site. The experiment to unveil the veil of truth has concluded, the hum inside the Arcane Energy Source slowly subsiding, but the bright and dark stripes left on the alloy sheet remain as witness, permanently impressed on the metal surface. Kamel walks forward, reaching out to caress the sheet, a dim blue light covering the surface, the microstructure inside the metal altered, turning from activity to inertia state.

This way, even when it’s back in a normal magic-pervasive environment, the patterns on its surface will continue to persist stably.

”We’ve finally unveiled a critical truth... Regarding numerous phenomena during the propagation and transformation of magic power, there are now concrete theoretical supports,” Kamel’s body issued a low hum, he turned his gaze towards the direction of Emilmna, ”Lady, if magic power is affirmed to have wave properties, then my calculation formula regarding the magical power field... Lady?”

Emilmna seemed not to hear Kamel’s words, this ”Goddess of Magic” standing there dazed by the experimentation device, unblinking at the bright and dark stripes on the alloy sheet, her eyes flickered with faint purple flames that seemed ready to extinguish at any moment, this unusual state finally drew attention from others, standing along, not saying much Windsor Maple immediately nervously stepped forward, ”Lady ’Tower’, are you...”

Halfway through her words, her foot hasn’t even stepped forward, Emilmna’s eyes suddenly twinkled, she seemed to have woken from a long dream, returning from an unknowable journey, she raised her hand, observing her fingertips, a light murmur floated from beneath her veil, ”Wave nature... confirmed, so my essence is... ripples.”

A moment later, Emilmna’s figure turned from solid to virtual. It started from her fingertips as her entire being was enveloped by a water wave-like glow, dispersing in all directions, Kamel didn’t even manage to extend his hand before this former Goddess of Magic vanished in front of everyone.

A former god disappearing before mortal eyes may not be much, but witnessing this and feeling the unusual surrounding magic wave right after, Kamel recognized this wasn’t simply ”hiding in plain sight” or ”spatial transit,” but something much more... unimaginable, something perhaps only Emilmna could understand.

Nearby technical assistants instantly became tense, several trained technicians instinctively activated the nearby detectors to collect data, while Windsor Maple delicately questioned as she widened eyes to sense the magic around, ”Lady ’Tower’? Are you still here? Please tell us exactly what happened?”

”I’m here.” A voice suddenly sounded beside Kamel, prompting the latter to promptly turn toward it, only to see nothing within his vision.

He didn’t perceive any effects of spells like position distortion Force Field that conceal one’s figure.

”I’m not invisible,” as if guessing what Kamel was thinking, Goddess of Magic’s voice came again, this time next to Windsor Maple, ”nor have I done anything to manipulate your perception... I’m just here, walking beside you, sharing the same space. It’s hard to explain what I’m seeing now; everything has changed, everything is... different.”

”Everything has changed?” Windsor Maple’s face was filled with confusion. She couldn’t fully understand what this former god was saying but couldn’t help asking, ”What did you see? What did you do? Did something happen to you?”

”I’m still unclear on how it all happened, I just see... ripples,” Goddess of Magic’s voice came again, this time simultaneously from behind Kamel and Windsor Maple’s left side—completely different locations, with two different sources of sound, ”Ripples of all things, the magic power escaping from these magical devices, the echoes of thoughts rising from every corner of the kingdom, and... you all.”

”Us?” Kamel and Windsor Maple said in unison.

”Yes, you all, and everyone here. I can still distinguish you, but... I can no longer accurately define you, your boundaries are so blurred and entangled with the ever-present ripples, as if...”

Goddess of Magic’s voice suddenly stopped. She paused for a full thirty seconds, until Kamel and Windsor Maple nearly asked her again, before her voice suddenly resumed:

”As if... you were also part of the disturbance.”

Kamel and Lady Windsor exchanged glances.

They are part of the disturbance? How should one understand this logic-defying statement?

And at that moment, a pale purple arc of light suddenly erupted in front of them, as the arc light leaped, a figure rapidly formed from the illusion, re-condensing into the three-meter-high ”high-ranked Advisor” Goddess of Magic.

All eyes instantly focused on this ”high-ranked Advisor,” yet the concerned individual seemed still entrapped in a strange ”Observer” state, she stared confusedly at a non-existent point for a long while before her gaze finally re-converged to one point. Then this ”Supreme Magus” lightly shook her head, looking around with an unfamiliar expression, and softly said, ”It’s over... I’ve returned.”

”Are you okay?” Kamel couldn’t help but ask with some concern—he never imagined one day he would worry about a god, ”What exactly happened just now?”

”I don’t know, but I suspect... what we glimpsed today might not be just the truth behind magic power,” Goddess of Magic said while staring at Kamel for a long time, as if trying hard to see certain other ”modes of existence” from the substantial contour before her, ”Kamel, we know too little about this world.”

”It’s really hard to imagine these words coming from a former god,” Kamel had countless doubts but couldn’t help but first express a sigh at this moment, ”You look now... truly like a mortal.”

”Really?” Goddess of Magic blinked, seemingly only truly waking up at this point, ”perhaps that’s not a bad thing either...”

Then she lightly shook her head again, using this very human gesture to dispel the chaotic sense of dislocation in her mind: ”I think... I need some time to slowly sort through that special ’vision’ I saw... to understand the scene where everything has lost its clear boundaries, as if it’s a chaotic but orderly disorder mixed together. Sorry, I might need to withdraw from this action early—I must return and adjust my state.”

”Was it already serious to this extent?” Kamel looked at her unexpectedly but after brief thought nodded, ”No problem, this outpost on our side is already stable, the situation inside the kingdom is roughly understood, you can rest assured to go back and rest.”

Initially, Goddess of Magic’s involvement in this project, apart from providing guidance as an ”Advisor,” her greatest function was serving as a layer of ”insurance,” if the War God’s Divine Realm had residual divine contamination she could help the scouting teams avoid risks, but now the basic situation of the War God’s Divine Realm has been clarified, the contamination of mortals here indeed has disappeared, Goddess of Magic’s layer of ”insurance” can also be withdrawn.

Everyone present understood this point.

After making the decision, Goddess of Magic didn’t linger; she simply nodded slightly to the exploring personnel remaining here, then was enveloped by a layer of spinning mist of light. Moments later, the mist of light surged towards the nearby Magic Web Terminal—like when she initially descended upon this space, her incarnation followed the network back to the defied Court.

”She really left just like that...” Windsor Maple watched Goddess of Magic leave, waiting until the massive fluctuation of magic power completely departed from this space before whispering softly. Then she looked up, directing her gaze at Kamel, ”Master Kamel, do you think this issue...”

”Regarding the deep secrets of magic power... it seems we still have much to do, but at least today we’ve unveiled the most important corner of its veil,” Kamel’s tone was steady, perhaps because as a being of energy he’s no longer hindered by the frail and changeable flesh, he quickly controlled his thoughts and emotions, ”’Lady Tower’ described that bizarre scene that sparked many associations for me, I believe you and Master Vilanya feel the same—we should continue to study this issue in-depth and maintain constant contact and share ideas, but... that’s a matter for later.”

The Arcane Master gently shook his head, his gaze directed towards the distance.

That was in the direction of where the ”boundary” lay.

”As for what we should do now, it still involves continuing to unearth this space’s secrets and waiting for His Majesty Gawain Cecil to personally handle the mysterious ’Steel Ground.’”
