Sword of Dawnbreaker

Chapter 1085: Chapter 1084: Reaching a Consensus

In the Shadow Courtyard, shrouded in endless chaos and darkness, Amoen, the Giant Stag, faced the dormant Magic Web Terminal.

”I think this thing is broken,” finally concluded the God of Nature of yore after a long silence, ”it wasn’t lit when they sent it over.”

”...I’ve said it several times, the Magic Web Terminal can’t be delivered turned on; it needs to be placed in an energy field to operate,” sighed the lady beside Amoen, a giant figure formed of clouds and arcane symbols. Her sigh created an arcane cyclone of moderate size in the shadow realm, causing countless flashes of lightning at the courtyard’s edge, ”Didn’t the person responsible for installing it tell you how to use it?”

”It was that mortal named ’Kamel’ who delivered it, he didn’t say, and I didn’t ask,” said Amoen sulkily, ”he looked very busy, and seemed unwilling to stay around me for long.”

”...I can imagine. I’ve heard about him, his feelings towards you must be complicated,” the Goddess of Magic, Milmina, lowered her head, her eyes filled with arcane glow and glanced between Amoen and the Magic Web Terminal, ”and I suppose it would be similar with anyone else—after all, you were a god once, how could a mortal expect you’d need someone to teach you how to use this thing...”

”It’s not my fault. My domain is natural power, not magical mysteries, besides, I’ve been away from the prime material world for three thousand years—three thousand years, you know how I’ve spent these three thousand years? Just lying here...”

Milmina interrupted Amoen before he could finish: ”So do you need my help or not?”

Amoen replied without hesitation: ”No, I can do it myself!”

Milmina seemed somewhat indifferent. She shook her head, stood up: ”Alright then, since you don’t need help, I’ll go for a walk.”

As soon as her words fell, this lady who mastered secrets and magic transformed into a fierce swirl of Magic Power, sweeping over the vast Gravel Plains and endless darkness like a storm, quickly vanishing from Amoen’s sight.

Amoen remained motionless, lying quietly between the stones and metal structures, but his gaze seemed always directed towards where Milmina disappeared, until she completely vanished into the darkness, he let out a light sigh: ”Actually, if you were to help...”

In an instant, a gust of wind swept over from afar, carrying powerful Magic Power fluctuations and shadowing Arcane Lightning, Milmina returned to stand before Amoen as swiftly as she had left. Bending slightly, her graceful figure covered in a thin mist, seemed to carry a hint of a smile: ”See, I told you you’d need help?”

Amoen: ”...”

”No need to be polite, it’s just a simple task for me,” Milmina’s smile became more pronounced. Before Amoen could protest, she bent down, gently reaching her hand towards the Magic Web Terminal affixed on a floating boulder—this terminal was of large-scale city public facility grade, yet before her, appeared as a small portable device, ”You see, it only requires this...”

A small arcane spark burst forth from the void. Milmina’s finger hadn’t touched the device, yet the magic resonance activated the intricate array within the terminal, accompanied by a faint buzzing and the sequential lighting of the magic circle, the Projection Crystal on the Magic Web Terminal brightened, while a clear holographic image appeared above the crystal.

A lady with a sweet smile was introducing the newly opened neural network distribution station in the city. In the background of the image, rows of neatly arranged Immersion Capsules awaited the citizens’ experience.

”...Ah, it lit up.” Amoen suddenly said a few seconds later.

”Don’t talk, watch the program,” Milmina interrupted him directly.

”So you just wanted to use my Magic Web Terminal,” Amoen said lightly, his tone revealing little emotion, ”why don’t you get a set yourself from that human? He likely wouldn’t mind...”

”I do mind, I still need to act cautiously—for now, I must avoid any contact with mortals, as I’m uncertain whether any unintentional contact would restart my connection with the prime material world, nor am I sure I’ve truly completed my isolation purification, and there’s also the most crucial point...I am still observing that ’human’ you spoke of, until I’m sure he’s truly reliable, I won’t risk anything.”

”In my view, you aren’t as cautious as you claim, but since this is your choice, I will refrain from further comment,” Amoen said calmly, ”I just want to remind you...our time is not abundant. This era’s civilization has peacefully survived for a long time, and in this world, tranquil days are never long-lasting.”

Milmina silently glanced at the Giant Stag Amoen beside her, those eyes filled with arcane shine seemed to flicker a few times as if pondering something, yet ultimately said nothing.

Amoen also fell silent, as if frozen in time for years—though unlike the past, now there was joyous and lively sound echoing in this dark chaotic courtyard, the world once lifeless gained a hint of vitality.

The two Gods of old quietly sat or lay in the courtyard of the defied Fortress, guarding a diminutive magical device. The achievements of civilization created by the Mortal Races in this era accompanied them, appearing trivial yet seemingly captivating them entirely—it remains unknown whether they were enchanted by the ”program” created by mortals, or the tranquility of this moment.

”How do I switch channels?” Amoen suddenly said.

”Don’t switch yet, let me finish watching this segment and then I’ll teach you.”

...

Gawain’s story came to an end—after omitting descriptions of the dragon civilization’s glories and historical details unrelated to the Loren Continent, the dragons’ long endurance over millions of years and eventual liberation didn’t take long to tell. Considering the audience’s worldview and the difficulty of laying out technical details, he also omitted the final part regarding Omega’s launch and voyage. Nevertheless, this thrilling story still shook the Emperor Rosetta and Matilda before him.

”This is the story of Talronde,” Gawain exhaled deeply and spoke as if summarizing, ”now they have gained freedom, this civilization, which has spanned unimaginably long years and once reached the pinnacle of glory, is reborn through fire, returning to the mortal world - they are not just the legends of bards, not non-human monsters from the Otherworld, dragons also have flesh and blood, they are mortal species just like us, they too encounter difficulties, and now they have decided to seek help from the mortal world.”

”...It’s really unimaginable that such things are happening beyond the ’world’ we are familiar with,” Matilda couldn’t help but murmur softly, ”the fusion of the gods... the destructive ’breaking away’... I originally thought that everything we experienced on the Winterhold Fort Battlefield was the pinnacle of all historic legends, but now it seems... there are still many things in this world that exceed our imagination.”

”You just mentioned that the dragons, in the final stage, completely broke free from the gods’ restraints by breaking out of our planet?” Emperor Rosetta, on the other hand, obviously noticed a more crucial piece of information, ”The Dragonkin’s ambassador described this as an ’ultimate act of defying’?”

”Yes,” Gawain nodded, ”according to the Dragonkin, this is a critical ’ceremonial symbol,’ a key move for mortal races to step out of the cradle and move towards maturity. And according to my understanding, it is related to the birth mechanism of the gods - the specific details involve very complex theoretical models, if we conduct technical exchanges in this area later, I can discuss it with you in detail.”

Rosetta looked into Gawain’s eyes, speaking slowly, word by word: ”You mean that all the ideological foundations of the gods’ birth are based on the cognitive level of mortal races on ’this planet’, and the cosmic starry sky is a realm completely beyond our old worldview, all the religious scriptures of mortals have never considered how to explain the order among the stars, therefore once in the starry sky, the gods lose the doctrinal foundation for their existence?”

”...” Gawain couldn’t help but pause for a moment and his gaze towards Rosetta suddenly became very profound, ”You understand these things?”

”The Augustus Clan once co-existed with something that claimed to be God for two centuries,” Rosetta smiled, pointing at his own forehead, ”whether it can still be called a god is another matter, but at least its knowledge is real... it saps mental nourishment from us, and we are constantly secretly extracting forbidden knowledge and ancient memories from it.”

”...You have been ’stealing’ knowledge from that ’Eye of the God’ all along?” Gawain said in some astonishment, ”How much have you gained through this method?”

”Not a lot, after all, it’s just a fragment, but not too little either - that fragment ultimately belongs to the gods,” Rosetta seemed intentionally to create suspense on this topic, ”fortunately, that ’eye’ once thrived in a period of advanced civilization, a lot of secrets unknown in our era weren’t secrets in its era... unfortunately, this knowledge for a long time was just a kind of perplexity, under the constraint of that eye, we from generation to generation were unable to put these knowledge to use.”

At this point, Rosetta suddenly paused, spreading out a hand: ”So you see, we indeed have the necessity to proceed with further technical exchanges.”

Gawain laughed, this time his smile was heartfelt, a smile of unexpected joy: ”It seems so, the theocracy Authority Council needs this valuable information.”

He raised his glass again to Rosetta, and the latter, after a ceremonial sip, seemed to fall into thought. The Typhon Ruler was silent for a moment, then lifted his eyes to stare at Gawain for a long time until the gaze was about to exceed the etiquette, then he broke the silence with an extremely serious expression: ”So, have you always been dealing with such matters?”

Gawain quickly understood the implication in the other party’s words, he displayed a hint of a complicated smile, his voice sounded weathered: ”If possible, I don’t want to either - but as someone who has even experienced resurrection, I’m probably destined to deal with many unimaginable things. Divine relics, chaotic wave, mad god countdown... there are too many things that could destroy our fragile kingdoms.”

”Indeed, there are too many things that could destroy our fragile kingdoms... the luck of ordinary people lies in their ignorance of these, as long as the apocalypse hasn’t arrived, they can continue to enjoy a last moment of peace,” Rosetta shook his head, suddenly looked at Gawain and made a joke, ”and your misfortune lies in knowing all of this, and even having to watch them getting closer and closer every day.”

”Now this is also your misfortune.” Gawain said calmly.

Rosetta ignored the teasing in Gawain’s words, he just suddenly sighed: ”Now I believe more in your concept of a ’community of shared destiny’ and your plans to promote world change.”

Gawain felt curious: ”Why do you suddenly say that?”

”...Someone who stands in front of the apocalypse truth doesn’t have extra energy to calculate the bread in someone else’s pocket.”

Gawain couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow: ”That sounds like a very high evaluation - so will you therefore unconditionally support the Cecil Clan?”

”Of course not, I won’t even trust you too much,” Rosetta said without hesitation, ”I only believe in your ideology and plan, and I believe more that you would go to any lengths for this ideology - Typhon may become your partner, but it could also be used by you as a consumable or nourishment to resist the apocalypse, isn’t it?”

Gawain laughed a little without answering this question.

After two seconds of silence, he brought the topic back: ”So, regarding the situation in Talronde...”

”Of course, on this issue, I will stand on the side of the Cecil Clan, although Typhon has experienced this battle, we are not short of food at home - we will also issue calls to the southern Highmountain Kingdom and those large and small tropical kingdoms, and assist the Cecil Clan in quickly establishing and launching the Food Committee.”

At this point, Rosetta couldn’t help but shake his head, sighing: ”As you just said, the greatest luck in this matter is that the dragons faced a great catastrophe and held onto the bottom line of their civilizational group, choosing positive self-rescue and peaceful assistance to get through the difficulties, so we don’t have to face a ’dragon disaster’ after the divine disaster, but in my view... nothing in the world is absolute.”

”You worry that some Dragonkin might lose control and cross the ocean to plunder the weaker human territories?”

”Not worry, it will absolutely happen,” Rosetta nodded, ”although I’m not very clear about the situation in Talronde, nor have I had contact with the dragons, I can infer a lot of things from your description. Dragonkin, like us, have human weaknesses, limits to their abilities, and after their society’s collapse, how much can their provisional government control of the wasteland? How many refugees can they gather and restrain? There will definitely be out-of-control dragons, and these dragons are strong enough to cross the endless ocean with just their bodies to harass human borders... in such a case, it might be hard to handle, how should we repatriate such ’refugees’ who do not follow the rules? Not to mention that this would greatly dampen the enthusiasm of member countries involved in food aid.”

Gawain looked at Rosetta, spoke slowly: ”... After three warnings, fire at will.”
