Sword of Dawnbreaker

Chapter 482 - 481: Widespread Dissemination

A new war has begun.

If she were the same naive adventurer who used to spend her days deceiving people in the countryside bar, she probably wouldn’t grasp the profundity of this statement. But now Giply realizes in an instant the astounding feat she is about to undertake.

If her voice truly could carry across the entire southern borders.

If the information here could truly be delivered to every person’s eyes and ears.

Then... the Holy Light Church’s bad days are coming.

The Holy Light Church’s extremist actions have persisted for many days, their suppression of heterodoxies and exploitation of commoners have worsened in recent years. Yet countless ordinary people silently tolerate all this, some even finding it customary, giving the impression that ordinary people truly don’t feel the pain or understand resistance. However, Giply, once an ordinary person herself, knows that’s not the case at all.

The populace may be numb, but they’re not thoughtless; they’ve grown accustomed to accepting fate, but that doesn’t mean they desire this fate.

They tolerate the status quo due to their lack of information and knowledge, preventing them from seeing the church’s dark truth, or considering other ways of living. Moreover, there has never been a voice speaking for them.

But once her initial excitement faded slightly, Giply quickly realized a problem: ”Lord, these materials may indeed give a great blow to the Holy Light Church, but the southern borders have many believers of the Holy Light. Many commoners truly and sincerely believe in it, so...”

”Indeed, which is why my aim isn’t to eradicate the Holy Light, only the Holy Light Church,” Gawain nodded. ”For those who sincerely follow the light, I will give them just that. I’ll arrange for you to meet with Wright, the Grand Shepherd of the New Holy Light Faith, so you can understand what Cecil’s own faith should look like.”

”Grand Shepherd... Wright?” Giply blinked in shock, ”That priest?”

”Yes, though he is no longer a priest,” Gawain chuckled, looking forward to Giply’s reaction upon seeing the white knights being trained in the territory. ”Miss Giply, you’ve been away too long; the changes here are beyond your imagination—witness it with your own eyes.”

Witch Giply departed, leaving the reception room with only Gawain and Betty holding a large tea pot, who seemed lost in thought. After contemplating silently for a moment, Gawain turned to the little maid who was daydreaming. ”Go call Rebecca.”

The maid jolted awake: ”Oh! Okay!”

Betty left, and shortly after, the room door swung open, a lively voice called from the doorway: ”Ancestor~~ Were you looking for me?!”

”Indeed, I wanted to ask—” Gawain began to respond while turning his head to face the door, only to exclaim in shock upon seeing Rebecca, ”Did you finally burn down the house?!”

He stared wide-eyed at his little granddaughter—her half face blackened by soot, along with her clothes and hands, resembling someone who just blew up the Magic Guide Technology Research Institute.

Gawain recalled the last time Rebecca appeared in this state was when she almost blew up a lab—this foolhardy girl tried to use a fireball to mold an ancestor’s statue. It blew up when she got to the left leg... Gawain still wonders whether to be surprised at her bizarre thinking or her persistence until three-quarters of the statue was done before it exploded...

Did this girl treat fireballs like playdough from a young age?

Upon hearing her ancestor’s remark, Rebecca shyly stuck out her tongue: ”Well... I was in the kitchen just now...”

”What were you doing in the kitchen?” Gawain was puzzled, ”Stealing food and accidentally dropped it in the stove?”

Rebecca stood confidently with hands on hips, ”I’m making bone broth for you!”

Gawain was even more perplexed: ”Why bone broth?”

”Aunt Heidi said you’re getting older, your bones aren’t good,” Rebecca unknowingly sold out her aunt before realizing, ”Oh right, Aunt didn’t want me to tell you. But I thought if I cook for you myself, you’ll be pleased!”

Gawain: ”???”

What a mess!

Even combining the experience of a time traveler and a satellite spirit, Gawain couldn’t fathom what his great-great-granddaughter was thinking, and could only accept Rebecca’s mind was squeezed by a castle gate and that even Aunt Heidi decided to cause trouble...

It finally dawned on him whose idea it was he had bone broth every night lately.

Though surprised and puzzled, Gawain knows this was the young one’s way of expressing herself—despite the usual clumsiness that ruined everything, the intention was commendable. He could only suppress his despair and maintain his composure, speaking calmly, ”Okay, I understand your intentions, but try not to be so hasty next time. So where’s the soup you made?”

”It smelled so good, I couldn’t resist.”

Gawain: ”...”

This seems to have nothing to do with sincerity...

After holding back for a while, striving to maintain a stern expression on his face, Gawain almost rigidly steered the topic in the direction he initially intended: ”Let’s not talk about this for now—I’ve called you here to confirm the implementation status of the Magic Web Broadcasting System. Where can we currently cover with the Magic Web signal?”

Hearing it was about serious business, Rebecca quickly wiped her face and earnestly reported: ”On the Cross Axis Line centering around the Kant territory, we’ve constructed a backbone network using Magic Energy Relay Towers. Now, the Magic Webs of four newly built cities are connected to the backbone network, basically achieving coverage. Besides this, in some satellite towns along the Cross Axis Line, we’ve ensured that each small town has at least one Magic Web Broadcasting Terminal, and they’ve already passed test operations.”

After a brief pause, she continued with a hint of embarrassment: ”Areas outside this Cross Axis Line have not been covered yet. On one hand, the construction teams cannot keep up given limited human and material resources. On the other hand, populations are sparse in remote areas, villages have not yet merged, and the cost of laying the Magic Web and setting up broadcasting facilities is not justifiable. Moreover, there’s a production issue with the Magic Web Terminals. Only half of the production lines at the newly built Magic Web Terminal manufacturing factory have completed acceptance...”

The problems brought about by the overexpansion of the territory have existed from the start and continue to ferment. Limited human resources and factory capacity in the Cecil industrial zone constrain the promotion of new technology in the southern borders and the construction of infrastructure.

But fortunately, the village and township mergers and population migration, vigorously promoted by Gawain from the beginning, have been proceeding smoothly. After population concentration in developed areas, the shortcomings in construction capacity and production can be alleviated to some extent. Gawain was actually quite satisfied with Rebecca’s report.

”Arrange another warm-up and test of the broadcasting system within three days—it’s almost time to put it to official use.”

The Magic Web Broadcasting System has always been a project Gawain highly valued, but its complexity and high infrastructure requirements have resulted in a longer testing and perfection period compared to other Magic Guide Technology products. Ever since the end of the Fire Moon Boulder Fortress campaign, after Gawain conducted the first ”trial broadcast” with this system, the entire Magic Web Broadcasting System has been undergoing prolonged and difficult adjustments and tests—parallel to this, the development of Magic Web Communication has also been gradually perfected.

And today, the time has finally arrived for this system to be put into use.

Gawain carefully thought about what the first program should be once the Magic Web broadcasting became practical, and launching a public opinion attack on the remnants of the Holy Light Church in the southern borders was the best use he could think of. However, he initially did not plan to find someone from the Intelligence Agency to do this. Instead, he thought of letting Wright, a professional missionary, take the stage himself—when people’s faith is in crisis, and the corrupt and degenerate church goes astray, to save the declining Faith of Holy Light, the first White Knight in human history stood up and became an idol. Just thinking about this script excited him.

But later, Amber recommended an even more suitable talent—Giply, who is eloquent and good at dealing with anyone.

He still remembers Amber, who rarely said something quite reasonable at the time:

”If you want to use words to strike at the opponent, then a smooth-talker is more effective than someone who is straightforward and sincere.”

Simply put, only people without concern for face can sling mud effectively.

Gawain wholeheartedly agreed—although what the Holy Light Church did was dirty in itself, adding mud wouldn’t make it any less dirty; still, Giply was more suitable than Wright to become a professional ”news host.”

Of course, by Gawain’s standards, Giply doesn’t entirely meet his requirements; he aims to build a ”media” that efficiently and widely spreads information to the public. What he requires goes beyond so-called ”eloquence,” but there’s no broadcasting school in this world... True professionals have to be cultivated by themselves.

Rebecca, thrilled with the new task, left happily.

One can anticipate that the truly practical Magic Web Broadcasting System will soon showcase its unparalleled power thereafter.

But the Magic Web Broadcasting is still an unperfected entity. Its currently limited coverage area and the limited hours of operation each day restrict its effectiveness. Hence, outside of the Magic Web Broadcasting, the elements Gawain initially planned that genuinely impact the strike against the Holy Light Church still hold primary importance:

Newspapers, flyers, pamphlets, and missionaries in remote areas.

He glanced at the ”photos” transmitted from Lu’an City on the table and then had them delivered to Godwin Orlando.

Soon, those pieces of information and images from Lu’an City will transform into tens of thousands of newspapers and pamphlets, accompanied by explanations sufficient to resonate with the public and reveal the truth. Using the Magic Web document transmission system, they will be printed in synchronization in the printing factories of the Cecil Main City and the four newly established industrial cities. As the courier teams travel to various parts of the southern borders, those materials capable of shaking the Holy Light Church will quickly spread throughout the Cecil Principality.

Before the priests in Lu’an City become desperate, Gawain will not use a single soldier, not even maintain the nearest military blockade line, within five miles outside the city walls.

He won’t attack there because he’s well aware that the priests are awaiting his assault—the sound of every shot from his magic cannons would provide the Holy Light Church with a new batch of martyr saints.

The priests won’t get this chance; instead, they will face another layer of ”attack.” Before this kind of ”attack,” they are destined to have no connection with ”nobility.”

Ultimately, they won’t be driven away by the Cecil clan’s guns and cannons; they will be driven away by indignant people.

On that day, the influence of the Holy Light Church in the southern borders will be completely removed.
