Xavier stood at the entrance of the dungeon, waiting.
He had been there for some time, leaning casually against the stone wall as he watched the entrance.
Then, finally, someone stepped out.
Kael.
Xavier’s smile widened.
”Well, well.”
Kael slowly walked out of the dungeon.
Something about him was different.
His eyes were blank.
The crimson pupils that usually stared back at anyone who met his gaze were gone. Instead, a strange demonic symbol stretched across his eyes, glowing faintly against the darkness surrounding them.
His steps were uneven.
He staggered forward as if his body was barely keeping itself upright.
Xavier pushed himself away from the wall.
”I guess you survived the dungeon.”
Kael stopped.
His head slowly turned toward Xavier.
There was no recognition in his expression.
His gaze was feral.
Xavier’s smile became even wider.
”I guess your demonic side has fully come out.”
He studied Kael for a few seconds.
”Although I was hoping for this, I expected you to still have a bit of control over your demonic form.”
Xavier scratched the side of his head.
”But alas, this is your first time truly delving deeply into your demonic side.”
Kael suddenly vanished.
Xavier’s expression didn’t change.
He turned around.
A black scythe appeared in Kael’s hand as he reappeared behind Xavier, the weapon already descending toward his head.
Xavier casually stepped to the side.
The scythe struck the ground.
BOOM!
The stone beneath Kael’s weapon cracked.
Kael immediately turned.
He swung the scythe horizontally.
Xavier ducked underneath it.
”You’re fast.”
Kael didn’t respond.
He disappeared again.
Xavier glanced over his shoulder.
Kael appeared above him.
The scythe came down once more.
Xavier moved away.
”You’re not even talking.”
Kael landed.
His head tilted slightly.
Then he raised his hand.
The scenery around them suddenly changed.
Xavier’s eyes narrowed with interest.
Xavier looked around.
”Oh?”
Kael had completely mimicked Auriella Voss’s Minor domain
They were surrounded by a black circle similar to Voss’s domain he surrounded Xavier as blade attacks attacks came towards Xavier from every direction.
Xavier remained completely still.
The attacks struck him.
Again.
And again.
And again.
Yet none of them caused even a scratch on his clothing.
Xavier looked down at his attire.
”Still clean.”
Another wave of attacks came.
He didn’t bother moving.
They passed through him or struck his body without producing any meaningful damage.
Eventually, the attacks stopped.
Xavier looked toward Kael.
”If this is all you can do, I guess—”
He suddenly vanished.
Kael barely reacted before Xavier appeared directly in front of him.
Xavier’s fist stopped just before Kael’s face.
The pressure alone pushed Kael backward.
Kael slid across the ground.
Xavier lowered his hand.
”I’m still disappointed.”
Kael stared at him.
”With the same way you still resort to copying first-year students.”
His smile disappeared.
”Which means that after going through this dungeon, you haven’t considered yourself the strongest even while standing a whole above them in this form.”
Xavier shook his head.
”Truly disappointing.”
Kael suddenly charged.
Xavier raised an eyebrow.
”Still?”
Kael’s body accelerated.
His weapon moved.
”First Form: Celestial Moon Style.”
A powerful slash tore through the air.
Xavier casually dodged.
”Now that’s new.”
His eyes followed Kael’s movement.
However, Xavier immediately noticed something.
Kael’s body was suffering from the technique.
His muscles were straining.
His breathing became rough.
Blood slowly trickled from the corner of his mouth.
That technique is hurting him.
Kael didn’t care.
He attacked again.
”Second Form!”
Xavier raised his arm.
The attack collided with his defense.
CLANG!
The force of the impact shattered Kael’s dual blade.
Fragments flew through the air.
Kael stared at the broken weapon for barely a second before rushing forward again.
Xavier sighed.
”You really don’t know when to stop.”
Kael swung his remaining weapon.
Xavier casually dodged.
He threw a simple punch.
Kael moved his head just enough to avoid it.
But the punch itself wasn’t the real attack.
Mana erupted from Xavier’s fist.
BOOM!
Kael was launched backward.
His body crashed into the ground.
The impact cracked several ribs at once.
Kael coughed.
Blood spilled from his mouth.
For a moment, he remained on the ground.
Xavier watched silently.
He expected Kael to stay down.
Instead, Kael slowly pushed himself back onto his feet.
His entire body trembled.
Yet his eyes remained focused on Xavier.
He charged again.
”Third Form.”
The blade moved.
The slash was faster than before.
Xavier casually stepped aside.
The attack missed him completely.
But Xavier’s eyes remained on Kael.
The boy was barely standing.
”I guess this technique is one of those suicide techniques.”
Kael turned around and attacked again.
Xavier dodged.
”I don’t see you properly using it until you step into Rank 3.”
Kael’s breathing became heavier.
”And with how damaged you are, your technique might actually kill you.”
Kael continued attacking.
Xavier kept avoiding him.
”Still...”
Xavier smiled.
”Since you’ve come this far, I guess I’ll let you copy a technique from me.”
Kael stopped.
For the first time, his feral expression seemed to change.
Xavier raised one hand.
”Come on.”
His smile widened.
”Copy me.”
Kael stared at him.
Then his ability activated.
A strange sensation spread through his body.
His vision blurred.
The world seemed to slow down.
Xavier’s aura became visible to him.
Kael’s eyes widened slightly.
Then his body suddenly trembled.
The overwhelming power he had copied surged through him.
Xavier watched with interest.
”Interesting.”
Kael’s knees weakened.
His injuries finally caught up with him.
His vision became darker.
He tried to remain standing.
But his body refused.
The last thing he saw was Xavier standing before him.
Then everything went black.
Kael’s eyes snapped open.
Cold.
That was the first thing he felt.
A brutal mountain wind struck his face.
Kael instinctively tried to move.
Pain immediately shot through his entire body.
”Ah...”
He stopped.
His breathing became uneven.
He looked around.
The mountains.
He was back at the mountain.
Kael blinked several times.
His memory was foggy.
The last thing he could clearly remember was stepping into the fifth floor.
After that...
Nothing.
Did I black out?
He slowly sat up.
His entire body ached.
Every muscle felt as though it had been torn apart and stitched back together.
Kael looked toward the dungeon entrance.
He remembered the first four floors.
He remembered fighting countless monsters.
He remembered entering the fifth floor.
And then darkness.
At least I know there were only five floors.
Kael sighed.
”If it had a sixth...”
He looked at his hands.
”...I don’t know if I would’ve survived.”
”I don’t advise you to move.”
Xavier’s voice came from nearby.
Kael turned his head.
Xavier was standing a short distance away.
”Especially when you just received an attack from me.”
Kael frowned.
Xavier crossed his arms.
”You should be dead.”
Kael stared at him.
Xavier shrugged.
”So be grateful you’re still alive and just rest.”
Kael slowly leaned back.
His body wasn’t in any condition to argue.
Xavier stared at him for a moment.
”But I do have a question for you.”
Kael looked at him.
”Where exactly did you obtain the Celestial Moon Style?”
Kael’s expression changed.
Xavier continued.
”And how did you obtain it?”
His gaze became serious.
”For what I know, there are only three Celestial Styles in existence.”
Kael remained silent.
”Only one survived long enough to be passed down.”
Xavier stared directly at him.
”The rest were lost in time.”
Kael rubbed his forehead.
He had expected Xavier to ask.
There was no way someone like him wouldn’t recognize the technique.
Kael thought for a moment.
Then he gave the simplest answer he could.
”Well...”
He shrugged.
”Could the way I obtained it just be that my mom gave it to me?”
Silence.
Xavier stared at Kael.
Kael stared back.
Neither said anything.
A cold wind passed between them.
Then Xavier’s expression suddenly changed.
”Oh.”
Kael raised an eyebrow.
”I guess that explains it.”
Xavier burst into loud laughter.
Kael sighed.
He actually bought that?
Or perhaps he didn’t.
Knowing Xavier, it was impossible to tell.
Kael leaned back against the stone.
His body still hurt badly.
But his mind was already working.
He couldn’t tell Xavier the truth.
He couldn’t exactly say that he had obtained the technique through memories from another life.
Even if he explained where he had originally encountered it, Xavier would undoubtedly start digging deeper.
And Kael wasn’t interested in answering questions about things he couldn’t properly explain.
His mother’s name was good enough.
At least for now.
Xavier eventually stopped laughing.
Kael looked at him.
He could still feel the effects of the technique he had copied.
And there was something else.
Something about Xavier’s attack.
Kael couldn’t remember everything that happened after he entered the fifth floor.
But whatever had happened had pushed his body further than it had ever gone before.
He looked at Xavier again.
What a monster.
Kael had already considered Xavier absurd after seeing his strength before.
But now...
After everything that had happened inside the dungeon, Kael finally understood the difference between himself and someone like Xavier.
He had grown stronger.
Much stronger.
Yet Xavier had still defeated him without even appearing serious.
Kael clenched his fist.
He wasn’t discouraged.
If anything, he felt more motivated.
Because someday, he intended to close that gap.
And when that day came, Xavier wouldn’t be able to look at him like he was still a child.
For now, though...
Kael closed his eyes.
He needed to recover.
His body had been through enough.
