Chapter List (151)
Kael stood in the middle of the forest, staring at the countless monsters surrounding him.
His breathing was heavy.
His clothes were torn in several places, and blood covered his arms, chest, and legs. Some of the blood belonged to him, while most of it belonged to the monsters lying unconscious around him.
He had lost track of how long he had been fighting.
Hours?
Maybe longer.
At this point, Kael wasn’t even sure.
His body was exhausted.
Every muscle hurt.
His legs felt like they could collapse at any moment, and his fists were swollen from repeatedly punching monsters without the protection of mana.
Yet somehow, he was still standing.
Kael slowly looked around.
The battlefield was littered with bodies.
He had already fought Hounds, horned wolves, giant spiders, stone-skinned creatures, flying monsters, and countless other creatures that he couldn’t even identify.
Each one had forced him to adjust.
Each battle had been different.
And each battle had made him better.
That was the strange thing about Infinite Adaptation.
Kael didn’t have to consciously activate it.
It simply happened.
His body adapted to what it experienced.
His movements became more efficient.
His reactions became faster.
His understanding of his opponents deepened.
The things that had surprised him earlier no longer worked as well the second time.
Kael wiped the blood from his forehead.
”Wow...”
He looked around at the destruction.
”That was hard. Glad it’s done.”
He smiled tiredly.
Then—
GRRRRRRRRRR...
A deep growl echoed through the forest.
Kael’s smile froze.
His shoulders slowly dropped.
”...Don’t tell me that I jinxed this for myself.”
The ground trembled.
Kael sighed.
”Of course I did.”
Something moved in the distance.
The trees shook violently.
Then several massive trees were knocked down one after another.
CRASH!
CRASH!
CRASH!
Kael narrowed his eyes.
A massive silhouette emerged from the forest.
The creature was enormous.
Nearly four meters tall, with a heavily muscular body covered in dark gray scales.
Its arms were thick enough to resemble tree trunks, and two enormous horns curved backward from its head.
Unlike the other monsters, however, this creature didn’t immediately charge.
It simply stared at Kael.
Kael stared back.
”...You’re the boss, aren’t you?”
The monster roared.
ROOOOOAR!
Kael covered one ear.
”Yeah, yeah. I get it.”
The creature suddenly disappeared.
Kael’s eyes widened.
Fast!
He moved instinctively.
BOOM!
A massive fist slammed into the ground where Kael had been standing.
The impact created a crater.
Kael landed several meters away.
His expression became serious.
That speed shouldn’t belong to something that big.
The monster pulled its fist from the ground and charged again.
Kael moved.
The creature swung.
Kael ducked.
A second punch followed immediately.
Kael blocked with both arms.
BOOM!
He was pushed backward.
Kael’s feet carved lines into the dirt.
He gritted his teeth.
Strong.
The creature continued attacking.
Kael dodged the next strike.
Then another.
He stepped inside its reach and punched its stomach.
BANG!
The monster barely reacted.
Kael’s eyes widened.
”You’ve got to be kidding me.”
The creature swung its elbow.
Kael jumped backward.
The elbow passed inches from his face.
He landed and immediately rushed forward.
He attacked its knee.
Then its ribs.
Then its jaw.
None of his attacks seemed to do much.
The monster turned.
Its fist came toward Kael’s face.
Kael twisted his body.
The fist grazed his cheek.
Blood appeared.
Kael landed.
I’m going to have to hit harder.
He charged again.
This time, he focused completely on his physical strength.
No mana.
No techniques.
No shortcuts.
Just his body.
He jumped and drove his knee into the monster’s chin.
BANG!
The monster’s head moved slightly.
Kael landed.
He smiled.
”Got you.”
The monster looked down at him.
Kael’s smile disappeared.
”...That barely did anything.”
The monster swung.
Kael jumped backward.
The creature’s fist destroyed a tree.
Kael looked at the shattered trunk.
”Okay.”
He cracked his neck.
”I need a better plan.”
The monster charged.
Kael waited.
At the last second, he stepped aside.
The monster passed him.
Kael grabbed its arm.
Using its momentum, he pulled.
The monster stumbled.
Kael jumped onto its back.
He wrapped one arm around its neck.
Then he punched the side of its head.
Once.
Twice.
Three times.
The creature reached backward.
Kael released it and jumped away.
The monster turned.
It roared.
Kael smiled.
”You’re annoying.”
The creature charged again.
This time Kael didn’t wait.
He charged too.
Their fists collided.
BOOM!
The impact shook Kael’s entire body.
The monster’s fist was stronger.
Kael was pushed backward.
But this time, he didn’t stumble.
He immediately stepped forward.
The monster swung again.
Kael ducked.
He struck its ribs.
The monster countered.
Kael blocked.
Another attack.
Kael dodged.
Another.
He moved.
Something was changing.
Kael’s body was starting to understand the monster.
He could feel it.
The timing of its attacks.
The slight shift of its shoulders.
The movement of its feet.
The way its muscles tightened before every strike.
Infinite Adaptation was doing what it did best.
Learning.
Kael ducked beneath another punch.
Too slow.
He moved before the creature completed its swing.
The monster’s fist passed harmlessly over him.
Kael countered.
BANG!
His fist struck the monster’s ribs.
This time, the creature actually staggered.
Kael’s eyes widened.
It worked.
He attacked again.
BANG!
The monster staggered backward.
Kael followed.
Punch.
Kick.
Elbow.
The creature blocked some attacks but couldn’t stop all of them.
Kael was beginning to understand its movements.
He wasn’t stronger than the creature.
Not yet.
But he was becoming harder to hit.
The monster roared and slammed both fists into the ground.
BOOM!
The shockwave threw Kael into the air.
Kael flipped backward.
He landed badly.
Pain shot through his ankle.
He nearly fell.
”Ah...”
Kael looked down.
His ankle was injured.
He flexed it.
Pain immediately returned.
”Great.”
The monster charged.
Kael forced himself to move.
He couldn’t afford to stop.
The creature swung.
Kael dodged.
His injured ankle nearly gave out.
He stumbled.
The monster’s fist grazed his shoulder.
BANG!
Kael was thrown sideways.
He crashed into a tree.
The bark cracked.
Kael slid down.
His breathing became heavier.
His body was reaching its physical limit.
But Infinite Adaptation continued.
It didn’t care whether Kael was tired.
It didn’t care whether his muscles were hurting.
Every movement was another lesson.
Every attack was another piece of information.
Kael slowly stood.
The monster charged.
Kael watched it.
The world seemed to slow.
Not literally.
His perception had simply become sharper.
He saw the monster’s right foot move.
Then its shoulder.
Then its hip.
Right punch.
Kael moved before the fist came.
He slipped underneath it.
Left.
He moved again.
The monster swung.
Kael ducked.
Kick.
Kael jumped.
The creature’s leg passed underneath him.
Kael landed behind it.
He immediately attacked the back of its knee.
BANG!
The monster dropped slightly.
Kael grabbed its horn.
He pulled.
The creature lost balance.
Kael drove his forehead into its face.
CRACK!
The monster staggered.
Kael didn’t stop.
He punched.
Again.
Again.
Again.
His fists were bleeding.
But the monster was finally being pushed back.
It swung wildly.
Kael dodged.
The monster attacked again.
Kael dodged.
Again.
Kael moved.
Again.
Kael stepped aside.
The creature was becoming predictable.
Kael was adapting faster than it could change.
Finally, the monster roared and charged with everything it had.
Kael stood still.
His breathing slowed.
His body was exhausted.
His vision blurred slightly.
But his instincts were clear.
The monster raised its fist.
Kael stepped forward.
He slipped beneath the punch.
Then he drove his entire body into one attack.
His fist struck directly beneath the monster’s ribs.
BOOOOOOM!
The creature’s body lifted from the ground.
Its eyes widened.
Kael twisted his waist.
He put everything he had left into the strike.
The monster flew backward.
It crashed through several trees before finally slamming into the ground.
BOOM!
Kael stood still.
His fist trembled.
He could barely feel his fingers.
The monster didn’t move.
Kael waited.
One second.
Two.
Three.
Nothing.
He slowly walked toward it.
The creature was lying in a crater.
Its body was covered in wounds.
Kael stood over it.
”You’re finally done.”
The monster’s fingers twitched.
Kael’s eyes widened.
”...Seriously?”
The creature tried to stand.
Kael sighed.
”You’re stubborn.”
He raised his fist.
The monster roared weakly.
Kael punched.
BANG!
The creature collapsed.
This time, it didn’t move.
Kael remained standing over it for several seconds.
Then he fell backward.
THUD.
He stared at the ceiling of the underground forest.
”I hate this floor.”
He closed his eyes.
For several minutes, he simply lay there.
Then a familiar sound echoed through the fourth floor.
DING.
Kael opened his eyes.
A system notification appeared.
[Fourth Floor Trial Complete.]
Kael stared at the message.
His exhausted expression slowly changed.
”...Finally.”
Another notification appeared.
[Endurance Trial Complete.]
Kael blinked.
He didn’t immediately understand what that meant.
But before he could inspect it, the ground began trembling.
A massive staircase appeared at the far end of the forest.
Kael slowly sat up.
He stared at it.
The staircase led upward.
Kael rubbed his tired face.
”So that’s it.”
He looked back at the battlefield behind him.
The fourth floor had nearly broken him.
But somehow, he had survived.
He pushed himself to his feet.
His legs trembled.
”One more floor.”
Kael stared up at the staircase.
He didn’t know what waited for him on the fifth floor.
He didn’t know what kind of monster he’d face.
But after everything he’d endured here, turning back wasn’t an option.
Kael began walking.
One step at a time.
Until he reached the staircase.
He placed one foot on the first step.
Then another.
As he climbed higher, the fourth floor slowly disappeared behind him.
Kael reached the top.
A massive stone doorway stood before him.
Unlike the previous floors, there was no forest beyond it.
There was only darkness.
Kael stared into it.
Then he smiled tiredly.
”Fifth floor...”
He took a breath.
”Let’s get this over with.”
And Kael stepped through the doorway.
