Stronger by Paying Salaries and I Have 1 Billion Employees

Chapter 138: Chapter 128: New Home, Aurora Countdown

Gao Weilin stood outside the interview room and called his boss at Zhaoye, asking for another three days off.

”Dylan, is something wrong at home? Do you need any help?”

His boss asked with concern. Given that Gao Weilin had already taken two days off and was now asking for another three, he assumed something serious must have happened at home.

”Thanks, boss. Nothing’s wrong at home, I just have some personal business to take care of.”

Gao Weilin responded vaguely. He had wanted to resign directly, but considering the kindness and mentorship his boss had shown him, he decided to go back to Hong Kong Island and tell him in person.

After hanging up, Gao Weilin returned to Room 206 and walked over to Chen Yansen.

”This is Xu Xingxing, FoxTao’s administration team... leader. When it’s time to lease the office space, you two will go together.”

Chen Yansen looked up and gestured toward Xu Xingxing as he introduced her to Gao Weilin.

”Class President, does this mean I’m getting a promotion?” Xu Xingxing was slightly taken aback, then asked with a grin.

”It’s temporary. Whether you can make it permanent depends on your performance.”

Chen Yansen said with a smile.

Xu Xingxing usually handled miscellaneous tasks for the project team, like organizing team-building activities, arranging dinners, and purchasing office supplies. In reality, her skillset was a far cry from what was required for an administrative director.

Normally, leasing office space would be the job of the administration department, but Chen Yansen knew Xu Xingxing couldn’t handle it alone.

So he was having Gao Weilin take her along, which was basically like finding her a mentor.

Choosing an office area and negotiating the lease price with landlords or agents were just the basics.

On top of that, one had to understand budget control and calculate a whole series of expenses, such as property management fees, utilities, renovation costs, and taxes.

Gao Weilin turned and greeted Xu Xingxing. He understood Chen Yansen’s intention: he was meant to mentor her.

He and Xu Xingxing smiled as they walked out.

As they went, Gao Weilin asked about the location and environment of the Zhuxianzhuang Science and Technology Park, as well as FoxTao’s development status.

Watching them leave, Chen Yansen leaned back in his chair. ’Once Gao gets the Orange Technology office building sorted out,’ he thought, ’the plan to build a phone can get on the right track.’

’Based on the R&D progress of Wang Teng’s team, they should be able to launch a beta version in early June.’

’At that point, we can leverage FoxTao’s traffic to build an initial user base and promote Aurora OS.’

’After all, whether a sophisticated mobile operating system is any good or not heavily depends on user testing and feedback.’

Chen Yansen stayed at the Innovation Park until 6 PM, then called Wang Zihao and Wang Teng to go to dinner.

During the meal, Wang Teng reported on their R&D progress. In another week, they could package some of the core modules and move into the black-box testing phase to identify any functional defects.

As he spoke, a flash of reverence crossed Wang Teng’s eyes when he looked at Chen Yansen.

In an era that was gradually transitioning toward the worship of money, extraordinary talent could still command genuine admiration.

In Wang Teng’s eyes, Chen Yansen’s programming talent was god-tier!

In less than two months, he had gone from a beginner to a master.

He had seen plenty of computer geniuses from the University of Science and Technology of China and Qingbei at the OPPO Research and Development Center, but compared to Chen Yansen, all of them paled in comparison.

If Chen Yansen hadn’t provided so many ideas and solutions during the development process, they probably wouldn’t even be halfway done by now.

Wang Teng had originally come for the high salary, but now he felt that by following Chen Yansen, he had a real chance to soar to incredible heights!

The previous problem of a fund shortage was also gone, now that the 800 million from Augusta had arrived.

After listening, Chen Yansen nodded and told Wang Teng that the recruitment for hardware and industrial design engineers was already more than halfway complete.

In early June, he would move the entire Orange Technology team to the nearby Zhuxianzhuang Science and Technology Park.

Since the R&D team members all lived near Xuyuan, the company would rent two large buses.

They would shuttle back and forth between Xuyuan and the Science and Technology Park to ease everyone’s commute.

Of course, if anyone found it too troublesome and wanted to move closer to the Science and Technology Park, that was their own choice.

Wang Teng chuckled. ”I’ve gotten used to living on campus. I’d actually be sad to move out.”

”It’s not the campus you’d miss. I think you’d miss the pretty junior students.”

Chen Yansen teased playfully.

Wang Teng gave a couple of dry laughs and waved his hands awkwardly, saying he was already 24 and wouldn’t date girls who were eighteen or nineteen.

Wang Zihao suddenly felt like he’d found a kindred spirit. He let out a long sigh. ”I like older women too.”

Chen Yansen just smiled and said nothing more.

After dinner, Wang Zihao and Wang Teng walked back to the Innovation Park with their arms slung over each other’s shoulders.

Chen Yansen, on the other hand, went to the library and borrowed another six books.

”Hey, student, are you deliberately trying to mess with me?” the librarian, who had been holding it in for a month, finally asked.

A Xuyuan student ID allowed you to borrow six books at a time.

Typically, 90% of students would choose to borrow two or three books and only return them a month or two later.

But Chen Yansen was something else entirely. He would borrow six books in the morning, return them by noon, and be back in the evening to borrow another six.

Borrowing twelve books a day—it was hard for the librarian not to have a deep impression of him.

”I’m borrowing them for my classmates too,” Chen Yansen said, offering a casual excuse.

”Fine,” the librarian grumbled internally. ’Your classmates must be some really fast readers.’

But Chen Yansen hadn’t broken any borrowing rules, so all he could do was complain to himself.

Chen Yansen took the books and headed for 0418.

...

...

Two days later, Gao Weilin had completed the task of leasing the office space.

Orange Technology’s new office was located in Building 8 of the Zhuxianzhuang Science and Technology Park.

The entire building had five floors. The first floor was the front desk area, equipped with meeting rooms, a multimedia conference hall, and a guest reception area.

The four floors above each had over 600 square meters of office space and could accommodate 60 to 75 workstations.

There were elevators and stairs on both the left and right sides, and each floor had two restrooms.

The top floor featured a Sky Garden, a gift from the Science and Technology Park, planted with some potted purple bamboo and various flowers.

The second-floor balcony extended out two meters, creating a rest area of over thirty square meters.

The total floor area was 3,000 square meters. Although it was 1,000 square meters more than Chen Yansen had requested, the environment was genuinely excellent.

Gao Weilin brought the documents to Chen Yansen for approval, and Chen Yansen approved it after a brief look.

Using FoxTao’s name, Gao Weilin had also managed to secure some perks from the Science and Technology Park: property management fees waived for the first three years, parking fees waived for the first year, and a rent of 0.4 yuan per square meter per day.

As soon as Xu Xingxing got back, she went online to research the responsibilities and necessary skills of an administration team lead, planning to cram extensively.

This was because Gao Weilin had unintentionally told her that work like leasing office space was originally a job for administrative staff, with finance only needing to provide support.

Only then did she realize that she, as a temporary team lead, was still a long way from becoming permanent.

”I remember you still have one day of leave. Come with me to Yanjing tomorrow.”

Chen Yansen said to Gao Weilin.

”No problem.” Gao Weilin gave a wry smile. Although he felt a bit resigned, he still nodded in agreement.

Chen Yansen had previously promised Zhou Hongyi that he would attend the Internet Open Conference hosted by 360. In any case, it was just to make an appearance, and he could take the opportunity to have Gao Weilin meet some venture capitalists.

Before the end of the workday, Xu Xingxing had booked round-trip tickets for Chen Yansen, Gao Weilin, and Song Yuncheng.
