Reborn as a Weak Beauty Pampered by All

Chapter 706: Chapter 706: I Just Find it a Bit Strange

”Get up and walk around the living room in a bit, so your stomach doesn’t feel upset.”

Kang Li made an acknowledging sound.

Cai Xiufen went to the kitchen.

”Mom...” Kang Li followed her into the kitchen, leaning against the doorframe, watching her mother wash the dishes, bowls, and chopsticks she had used, and said, ”You’ve been working hard these days!”

”What’s this about working hard or not?!”

Cai Xiufen glanced at her beloved daughter and said, ”Isn’t the reason I’m here in North City to take care of you? Besides, it’s not like our old home where there’s endless chores to do. Aside from cooking for Ruirui and taking them to and from school, I’m mostly free.”

”Free? I saw the sweater you’re knitting on the couch.”

Kang Li pouted rather petulantly and said, ”I’ve told you more than once not to tire yourself out knitting sweaters, but you never listen, always keeping yourself busy.”

Cai Xiufen dried the dishes and chopsticks and put them away in their places. She said, ”You know, when you get to a certain age, if you sit around doing nothing all day, not only will you feel uncomfortable, but it’s also quite easy to fall ill.”

After tidying up the kitchen, the mother and daughter returned to the living room.

”Mom, is there something you want to talk to me about?”

Sitting down on the sofa, Kang Li saw her mother hesitating to speak and couldn’t help but look puzzled.

”Today, at lunchtime, a young couple came to the gate of the compound, claiming they were Yanqing’s brother and sister-in-law...”

Cai Xiufen told her about Meng Xingsheng and Cui Shuicao appearing at the compound gate earlier that day. In the end, she said, ”However, Yanqing told me not to bother with them, and ultimately they didn’t manage to come in.”

Kang Li frowned, ”What did they want with Luo Yanqing?”

Cai Xiufen: ”They were simply reaching out for money.”

”But Luo Yanqing had already agreed with his mother that when she reached the age to be cared for, he would send her living expenses according to legal provisions.”

Kang Li said this and paused briefly before continuing, ”Moreover, his mother didn’t come this time, which suggests that today’s matter probably doesn’t have much to do with her... So where does that half-brother of his get the audacity to bring his wife to North City to look for Luo Yanqing?”

”Let it be, don’t think about it. Yanqing said there’s no need to deal with it. If they come looking again, you don’t have to agree to meet, and the security guards at the main gate definitely won’t let them in.”

”I just find it a bit strange.”

”There’s nothing strange about it. It’s common everywhere. When a family suddenly has a relative who’s capable, some people think about clinging to that relative, hoping to reap some benefits from time to time, like a windfall.”

”A windfall?”

Kang Li paused, then said, ”Actually, as long as they’re not clinging to us for a constant bloodsucking, I don’t mind giving them a hand from time to time.”

Cai Xiufen: ”Don’t be soft-hearted. Once some people latch onto you, it’s very hard to shake them off.”

Upon hearing this, Kang Li didn’t respond but asked her mother, ”Mom, do you think they will come again?”

Cai Xiufen: ”Only they know that.”

The two people being discussed by Kang Li and her mother, namely Meng Xingsheng and Cui Shuicao, were at this moment standing face to face in a secluded part of the park, giving each other the silent treatment.

Well, to call it a silent treatment isn’t entirely accurate; it’s more like Cui Shuicao giving Meng Xingsheng the silent treatment by herself—she had been glaring at him in anger for about four or five minutes without a word.

Meng Xingsheng licked his lips, mustered up the courage, and said, ”Before coming to North City... I told you that even if we found the compound where Big Brother Luo lives, Big Brother Luo... Luo wouldn’t see us. You were the one who didn’t listen and insisted on coming...”
