She Lives without Regret in This Life

Chapter 1296: Chapter 1366: Finding a Midwife

Sheng Ning’s belly grew bigger by the day. Initially, she could still go with Lin En to collect bottles, but later, when her belly had grown so large that she couldn’t see her toes, she had no choice but to stay home.

Moreover, her calves were severely swollen, almost to the point where she couldn’t walk.

At night, her belly pressed against her heart and other organs, causing her to toss and turn restlessly in bed. Sometimes, even breathing was difficult, and she often sat up crying from the makeshift floor bed in the middle of the night.

During the day, she always appeared strong and optimistic, with a smile on her face. But only heaven knew she was nearing her breaking point. She missed the Living Yama, missed everything about home.

Sheng Ning covered her face with both hands, sobbing softly.

The suppressed sobs awakened Lin En, who slept opposite her, and he also sat up.

Faint light shone through the gaps in the shack, revealing the worried look in Lin En’s blue eyes.

”Auntie!” he called her softly.

Sheng Ning lifted her head blankly, realizing she’d woken Lin En. She quickly wiped away her tears and apologized, ”Sorry, did I wake you?”

”You’re homesick, aren’t you?” Lin En propped his right hand under his chin, looking at her with a feigned serious expression. ”I know you’re homesick, right?”

”Yes, I miss home.” There was nothing shameful in admitting it. Sheng Ning propped her chin with her left hand, looking at Lin En. ”Auntie was kidnapped and brought here. Now no one at home knows where I am or even if I’m alive.”

”Who’s at your home?” Lin En showed a hint of longing. He had been with his grandmother since he was young, and after she passed away, he was with Lin Lisha. Besides the two of them, he hadn’t seen any relatives.

He didn’t even know who his father was, which made him especially envious of other children who had many relatives.

”I have lots of relatives.” Thinking about her family, Sheng Ning smiled with a hint of pride. ”I have a husband, parents, in-laws, a sister, an uncle, a cousin, and many, many close friends.”

”Wow...” The little guy was dumbfounded. ”Auntie, take me with you when you go back home!”

”Can you?”

”I have no family left.” Lin En sighed, ”My mom, she’s drunk all day, lost in her own world.”

”Alright!”

”It’s settled then.”

The next morning, Sheng Ning went with Lin En to sell bottles. It was the first time going out with him during the day because she would soon give birth, and she needed to find someone to help with the delivery.

Because Julian hadn’t given up searching for her yet, Sheng Ning would disguise herself before going out.

She wrapped a wide scarf around her and, with her belly protruding, took the bottles they collected the night before to sell.

Usually, most of these bottles were collected in Chinatown, which was about an hour’s walk through the winding streets to the famous Chinatown. Lin En used to live there with his grandmother.

After his grandmother passed away, Lin Lisha sold the house to pay off debts and moved to the current place.

”Lin En, selling bottles again?”

”Not bad recently, huh!”

Familiar faces would greet Lin En warmly when they saw him. The little guy, a bit shy, would nod bashfully and not say much.

”Hey? Who’s this? Haven’t seen her before.”

”My auntie.” Lin En proudly straightened his small frame; it was evident he really liked Sheng Ning.

She was an auntie who made him feel warm.

”She’s really pretty.”

”She looks more like your real mom!” Those who knew them naturally understood what Lin Lisha was like. Such a woman was not fit to be Lin En’s mom.
