She Lives without Regret in This Life

Chapter 189: Chapter 190 Team Competition Begins

“Second place? You even have the cheek to ask for second place? Even second place is better than your first,” someone said.

“Just a bunch of big men losing to two girls, how embarrassing!”

Everyone was arguing intensely.

Shen Feihu’s smile disappeared and with a fierce frown he said, “Are you really trying to poach someone right in front of me?” They were quite bold, as only he poached others, never the other way around. His Rescue Association and the General Union have always had a good relationship, yet he still hadn’t managed to lure Sheng Ning away from the General Union.

“Such talent is wasted in the General Union Dance Troupe.”

“I think transferring to our association would be a good move.”

“Go to hell?”

“President, look, Old Shen is talking dirty again, it’s so uncivilized.” Kong Jie found the right moment to tattle, “It’s this one rotten apple that spoils the whole barrel, you have to discipline him, President, or else it could badly influence the younger members.” Being referred to as President too, Shen Feihu and Meng Xingzhi held different statuses, Meng Xingzhi from the Provincial Rescue Center was a level higher than Shen Feihu.

“I’ve barely said a word all morning, and you’re just holding it in to rat on me, you little rat!”

The crowd burst into laughter.

The afternoon held the team event, a ten-kilometer weighted cross-country race. The Third Rescue Team was also located near the mountains, belonging to the same mountain range as the War Wolf Rescue Team. Starting from the team’s front gate, following a pre-planned route forming a small semicircle back to the start, the total distance was exactly ten kilometers.

At one o’clock in the afternoon, all the female comrades lined up, radiant and ready to start.

“Let me repeat the rules of the competition: In the team event, the first team to arrive wins. We will have people checking along the way, no cheating allowed!”

“Yes!” everyone responded loudly.

“All the leaders are watching! Don’t disgrace our Third Rescue Team.” The coach added lastly and then shouted, “Alright! Go!”

At the sound of the whistle, over a dozen teams charged forth. The General Union Dance Troupe was in the middle, with the communications team on the left and the Main Hospital team on the right. From the very start, everyone felt the hostility from both sides.

“It looks like we’re getting wrapped up like dumplings! This is very disadvantageous for us,” Chen Huaying declared, eyes sparkling with excitement, clearly eager for the challenge.

“Hmph, just a defeated underling,” Liu Yilan snorted as she ran.

“Defeated underling?” Chen Huaying retorted sarcastically, “You talk as if you were the victor.”

“You won, so you must be amazing!” Huaying’s chin pointed skyward as if to poke a hole in the sky.

“I’m exhausted, can you two stop bickering?” Wu Youli panted heavily, her forehead beaded with sweat despite the cold weather.

The race weight was 20 pounds, packed into a bag carried on the back. It felt manageable at first. But as time went on, and stamina drained, it felt like carrying a mountain.

The three bickered, while Sheng Ning stayed silent. It wasn’t that she was in a bad mood, but she just wasn’t in the mood to talk; she was focused on regulating her breathing.

After her rebirth, apart from doing yoga every morning, she doubled down on her dance practice, particularly the basics, transforming herself entirely.

This was already paying off. She had covered ten miles with a pace that was neither fast nor slow, staying in the middle of the pack.

“I can’t do this anymore! I’m done for!” Members of the General Union Dance Troupe started to fall behind, some ahead, others trailing at the back.

Sheng Ning wiped her forehead and looked ahead, realizing she could no longer see Lu Dabao in front of her.

“How does someone so small have so much stamina?” Sheng Ning marveled.
