Genshin Impact: Joining the Genius Society

Chapter 408: Chapter 408: Chiyo Wants to Expose Kitsune Saiguu’s Embarrassing Past

”R-Rest for a whole day?”

Thinking about how Kamisato Ayaka had been dragged off for training first thing in the morning, then looking at Su Ran, who hadn’t even left his room until the afternoon, Chiyo couldn’t help but wonder if he was intentionally trying to make her lose.

Is Benefactor planning to favor Ayaka?

”Of course. But don’t worry—I’m a very competitive person. Even if my opponent is Ayaka, I won’t go easy on her.”

After all, in this universe, geniuses didn’t spend their free time inventing cheat codes for people.

But Su Ran was different.

Compared to other members of the Genius Society, he was clearly an odd one out.

When he was free...

he was really free.

Unlike the others, who were constantly busy with research.

”...That’s good.”

Even though she no longer had to worry about favoritism, Chiyo was still curious.

What exactly was Su Ran planning to do to help her improve her swordsmanship?

”So... does that mean I don’t have to do anything today?”

If she really was supposed to spend the entire day doing nothing, she couldn’t help feeling uneasy.

Jingliu was incredibly strong.

Even stronger than Ei.

The thought that a single day’s difference in training might leave her hopelessly behind made her anxious.

”Just come with me.”

”We’ll take a walk outside.”

”And hopefully find some inspiration.”

Making a cheat naturally required inspiration as well.

He couldn’t exactly give her invincibility, infinite health, and unlimited energy.

That would be far too obvious.

Even if the rules hadn’t explicitly forbidden using cheats, Su Ran didn’t want to win in such an unsportsmanlike manner.

So in the end...

Chiyo would still have to defeat Ayaka through swordsmanship itself.

”Just the two of us?”

”What about Kitsune Saiguu?”

The moment she heard they would be going out alone, Chiyo couldn’t help feeling excited.

If Kitsune Saiguu wasn’t coming...

then it’d just be the two of them.

Surely Ei and Makoto wouldn’t tag along either?

”Kitsune Saiguu...”

”She’s probably still curled up inside sleeping.”

Su Ran glanced toward his room.

As someone of the Hakushin bloodline, Saiguu was a yokai.

That little bit of exercise alone wouldn’t physically tire her out.

If anything...

she was probably mentally exhausted.

When he’d left earlier,

he could clearly tell she’d still had energy to spare.

As expected of the body I created.

”No way. That’s not like her.”

”She’s usually an early riser.”

Chiyo couldn’t understand.

She and Ei were martial artists, so they regularly set aside time to train.

Back then,

Kitsune Saiguu had been the Guuji of the shrine.

Her responsibilities had been enormous.

Getting up early had simply been part of her routine.

How could someone like her suddenly start sleeping in?

It was one thing now, before she was married.

But what about afterward?

Surely she wouldn’t have to personally drag Saiguu out of bed every morning?

”Maybe she had something important to do last night, so she went to bed late.”

Chiyo accepted the explanation.

Still...

she remained puzzled.

Even if she’d stayed up all night,

a yokai shouldn’t have any trouble going without sleep.

If anything,

disrupting her normal routine was the real problem.

Chiyo wasn’t one to gossip.

Since Su Ran clearly wanted to defend Kitsune Saiguu,

she had no intention of pressing the matter.

Better to mind my own business.

Why concern herself with Saiguu’s sleeping habits?

”Benefactor...”

”Where exactly are we going to look for inspiration?”

Chiyo still didn’t understand what method Su Ran intended to use to help her.

But she trusted him completely.

Why?

Because he’d resurrected her...

Kitsune Saiguu...

and Raiden Makoto.

That alone was nothing short of a miracle.

If Su Ran could accomplish something so divine,

then naturally his abilities must be beyond imagination.

That was precisely why Chiyo genuinely believed he had some way to make her stronger.

”Out into the countryside, of course.”

”The city is too noisy.”

”Too many voices.”

”They only make it harder for me to think.”

With the oni girl beside him,

Su Ran leisurely walked down Mt. Yougou.

The scene happened to catch Ayaka’s eye.

A surge of envy filled her heart.

She had no idea where they were going, but she truly envied Chiyo for being able to accompany Su Ran.

If it had been her instead, she would’ve gladly endured training ten times harder.

”Focus.”

Jingliu’s stern voice interrupted her thoughts.

The greatest obstacle to learning was allowing one’s mind to wander.

If she couldn’t devote herself wholeheartedly, then what difference would another month make?

Ayaka felt wronged.

But she said nothing.

She simply resolved to train even harder.

Then, one month later, she would astonish Su Ran.

Walking down the mountain alone with Su Ran, Chiyo suddenly felt a little nervous.

”Benefactor...”

”If Kitsune Saiguu finds out you brought me down the mountain alone...”

”...do you think she’ll get angry?”

Su Ran: ”???”

Wait.

Chiyo, aren’t you an oni?

That doesn’t sound like something an oni would say.

That’s the sort of thing Kitsune Saiguu or Yae Miko would say.

”...Would she?”

Noticing the strange look on his face, Chiyo asked again, sounding far less confident.

”...Probably not.”

Thinking about it, Kitsune Saiguu was already ahead of everyone else.

There was no reason for her to care about something so trivial.

Unless...she happened to be the jealous type.

Though somehow, Su Ran didn’t think a fox spirit would be.

”So Benefactor trusts her that much?”

Chiyo sounded unconvinced.

She and Kitsune Saiguu had spent almost the same amount of time with Su Ran.

Even she could imagine Saiguu complaining once they got back.

Yet Su Ran trusted her so completely?

”I know her pretty well, I think.”

”She’s cheerful and outgoing.”

”I doubt she’s the jealous type.”

As long as nobody teased her to her face, Saiguu was fairly generous.

Besides...who exactly would she even be jealous of?

”If Benefactor trusts Kitsune Saiguu that much...”

”Then perhaps...”

”I should tell you a few of her secrets.”

Chiyo felt it was necessary for Su Ran to understand Kitsune Saiguu a little better.

His strength might be unrivaled beneath the heavens, but as a person...he seemed a little too trusting.

To keep him from being completely wrapped around Saiguu’s finger, perhaps it was time to reveal a few of her embarrassing stories.

Better he learned now...than ended up being eaten alive without even a bone left.

Chiyo meant well.
