Genetic Ascension

Chapter 2324: Ownership

A spill.

Milky white light streaked across the skies, stretching farther than the eye could follow, thin in some places and dense in others, like something vast had reached out too quickly and lost control of what it was trying to hold.

Milk.

Nurturing... Care... But maybe most importantly, youth. Potential, lacking in time and even more so in restraint Sylas finally understood.

The Milky Way World had never been greedy in the way he had assumed. It hadnʼt swallowed surrounding Sectors and Horizons because consumption itself was the goal. It had simply wanted too much, too quickly, stretching itself across every path it could reach without possessing the maturity to understand that potential meant little if it was spread too thin.

Sylas could see the image of a youth blessed with enough athletic talent and coordination to reach the peak of almost any sport they chose. Basketball, soccer, tennis, football, it hardly mattered.

If they could become great at one, why settle there? Why not two? Why not all four? Why shouldnʼt the world experience everything they were capable of? Why shouldnʼt they spread themselves as far as they could possibly reach?

Why shouldnʼt they spill? Why shouldnʼt they push themselves to go further, to ask and want for more?

But... stretch across enough paths and eventually none received everything they deserved.

The Milky Way World had possessed extraordinary potential, so much that remaining confined to a single road must have felt almost insulting. It reached farther, claimed more, widened its influence again and again until the act of proving how much it could become began damaging what it already was.

It was a child with endless promise that had finally burned its hand against the stove.

And the fact it was always being attacked by outside influences certainly didnʼt help either.

Sylas had never understood his world more clearly. And because he understood it, something else became obvious.

The Grimblades werenʼt so different.

They had barely begun, but already there were too many things Sylas wanted. Too many powers worth taking, too many inheritances worth understanding, too many enemies worth Reaping and territories worth commanding.

Restriction had never suited him. If something useful existed, he wanted it. If something stood in his way, he would remove it. If there was another path available, there was no reason he should pretend only one deserved to be walked.

The Milky Way World wanted its potential known.

The Grimblades wanted the same.

One reached outward because it refused to believe it should be limited by a single identity, while the other carried a scythe precisely because anything worth possessing could be harvested and made their own. The similarity between them ran so deeply that, for a moment, Sylas wondered how it had taken him this long to see it.

From this day forward, the Milky Way World would no longer be the world of the First Race.

It would be the World of the Grimblades.

Sylas reached behind himself and pulled the calligraphy brush free. Its enormous shaft stood taller than even he did, the dark hairs at its head shifting through empty space while thin, foggy wisps curled away from them. He didnʼt hesitate over what came next because there was nothing left to decide.

The Milky Way World needed restraint, but restraint didnʼt mean weakness.

It needed structure.

It would become the fuel beneath everything the Grimblades built, the engine hidden at their center, the foundation feeding power upward while something else took responsibility for deciding where that power went.

The Grimblades would be that something. They would stand at the front, they would be the scythe.

They would reap what needed to be reaped, harvest what deserved to be taken, claim land, destroy enemies, and decide which paths were worth pursuing before handing everything behind them to the Milky Way World to consume, digest, and make its own.

The Milky Way would no longer stretch itself thin trying to reach everything at once.

The Grimblades would reach first. And when the Will of the Grimblades grew, the Will of the Milky Way would grow alongside it.

Sylas lifted the brush.

”You will be named the Milky Way,” he spoke softly to the world beneath him, his voice carrying through their perfected connection. ”And this galaxy, your shield and your vanguard... will be the Galaxy of the Grimblades.”

For a brief instant, nothing happened.

Then came the sound.

SHIIING.

The echo of a sharpening blade swept across the cosmos.

It didnʼt descend from above, nor did it cut through the overlapping galaxies from one edge to another. Instead, it seemed to pass along their width, an invisible scythe carving through the layers where one galaxy pressed against the other and forcing them into a new arrangement.

Space screamed.

A violent wind erupted around Sylas despite the emptiness of the void, striking hard enough that the folds of his clothes snapped against his body. His hair whipped behind him as the pressure intensified, strong enough that lesser existences would have been hurled across the stars.

Sylas didnʼt move.

He stood tall with the brush in hand, his expression carrying the same cold indifference as the galaxy rearranged itself around his words.

The overlapping structures began to separate and settle, not as two independent galaxies fighting for the same territory, but as pieces being forced into something new. The Milky Way World remained at the center of it all, no longer reaching blindly for everything it could touch. Around it, the galaxy took shape like armor, territory given true purpose.

Then the notifications arrived.

Every living being across the galaxy received the same message. The change had been acknowledged and the galaxy had been renamed.

But the name wasnʼt what most would have expected.

Galaxy of the Grimblades... it didnʼt follow the normal naming convention at all.

The distinction was subtle enough that someone careless might have dismissed it as wording. But words carried meaning. They always had, and always would.

To name it Grimblade Galaxy implied a place bearing a name. But to name it Galaxy of the Grimblades... declared ownership.

And that difference carried the weight of a thousand worlds.
