Genetic Ascension

Chapter 2221: Mandatory

Sylas sat and stared at the Quest for a long while.

It had only taken him less than two years to reach his current level, and he had even had to overcome the Summoning first before he could really start steamrolling to higher levels of power.

But even if he managed to keep up this same level of pace, at this rate, it would take him probably 10 times that amount of time before he managed to be as untouchable on the Demi-God Plane as he had been on the Mortal Plane.

As though that assessment wasnʼt already bad enough, that was just a measure of being untouchable in the Skai Heaven. Whether or not Sylas had actually been untouchable in the other Heavens, Heavens that would surely be his enemies this time if he wanted to clear this quest, wasnʼt up for debate.

He wasnʼt.

Even their B-tiers had a chance of being somewhat dangerous to him depending on their talent, let alone their A-tiers.

Even Sylasʼ 20 year assessment was assuming that he found ways to continue to accelerate his rate of growth like he had back on the Mortal Plane as well. And it also factored in ensuring that he managed to claim all the secrets of the Sanctum himself as well, expunging the influence of Rhykan and taking all the rewards.

But the timeline he had for doing that was already about a year alone, how was he going to grow strong enough to wipe out a Clan like this in a year?

Could he just use the system again?

There was no way that the system would allow him to clear a Demerit Quest using its power. Even it couldnʼt possibly be that stupid.

Plus, if the system had already labeled Sylasʼ targets as Sin Clans, that was to say that it was already aware of their misdeeds.

Usually, Sylas destroyed people with the system by making the system acknowledge their wrongdoings. But if the system was already aware enough to label them Sin Clans, then Sylas wouldnʼt be telling it anything it didnʼt already know.

Which by extension also meant that the only reason those Clans werenʼt destroyed already was because of other worries the system had or, in the case of the Demons… That it couldnʼt overextend itself and do it.

Sylas continued to read the description of the Quest over and over again, slowly coming to a realization.

The system here… was angry with him.

And it wasnʼt livid because he had wiped out the Efivara, it couldnʼt care less about something like that. In fact, to the system, the Efivara were practically a parasite to the world.

They jumped from world to world, laying waste and destroying things the system had spent millions, billions, sometimes in rare instances trillions of years nurturing.

These werenʼt a Clan of people that the system would ever give Sylas a Demerit for destroying. In fact, the Merit Reward seemed a lot more aligned with it in this case.

The real reason Sylas was receiving this Quest was because the system was angry that he had separated from it, and yet here he was accepting its rewards.

It couldnʼt learn from Sylas like it had in the past, it couldnʼt continue to perfect the Path of Will through his insights and breakthroughs. And because of that, it was furious.

Then, to top it all off, Sylas didnʼt respect it at all while taking its rewards without blinking an eye. Of course it was furious.

However, a system wouldnʼt just lash out without reason. But by the same token, it could do risk and management assessments all the time.

This quest was its way of saying something pretty simple.

If Sylas wanted to break off and do his own thing, while also benefitting from its blood, sweat, and tears…

Then he better prove himself worthy of such a permission.

And he had a year to do it.

When Sylas understood that, he actually grew calmer.

This was just how the world was. No one would allow you to gain benefits from them for nothing in exchange. In fact, he thought that something like this might happen.

His break from the system wasnʼt clean. He was too weak for a truly clean break. So right now, he was trying to have his cake and eat it too.

As much as people liked to make fun of the system, it was still a creation that was well beyond Sylas right now, and well beyond most of those that made fun of it, for that matter.

The Rune Master that crafted it could run circles around Sylas right now, and would likely be able to for a much longer while still.

There was simply no way for Sylas to bridge such a gap anytime soon.

So, if he wanted to keep having his cake and eating it too, then he was going to have to change his approach. But the first step was going to have to be clearing this quest within the year he was given.

As for how he was going to do it, he didnʼt know just yet. But he was confident that he would be able to figure it out.

Sylas reached for his final reward, the Merit Reward.

A heavy tome fell from above. This time, he caught it without a problem, his gaze flickering as he read it.

ʼInteresting.ʼ

Sylas didnʼt bother looking into it too deeply. With a twist of his hands, the tome vanished. As for where it appeared, that was obvious enough.

It was sent right to his grandfather.

Sylas had seen tomes like this before. He had seen one for his Space Path and another for his Time Path. He hadnʼt really relied on them in a very long time, but they were still there. He had just graduated beyond the point of needing them.

That tome was for the Path of Death.

The only trouble was that it accompanied the Hell Creation Path. But that was also exactly what Sylas wanted his grandfather to do.

After all, if he was going to form the Tri Class Constitution he wanted, it was going to have to be mandatory.
