Genetic Ascension

Chapter 2155: Highest Branches

The number of golden monkeys only seemed to be growing. When Sylas first cast his gaze over, there had only been a few dozen, but now it was a few hundred, and in the distance there seemed to be hundreds more gearing up.

They had seemingly enraged the entire city.

Sylas came to a sudden stop.

What must have been at least 50 monkeys jumped at Gogo, their staffs at the ready. They pulled them back as far as they went, their bodies about to slash down all at once.

But Gogo unleashed a roar that froze every one of them in the air. Then, a blast of telekinesis sent them all flying.

His body snaked through the air, every pump of his muscles shattering the wind and ripping apart at space. But at other angles, it did the opposite, making the space stronger, more sturdy, more unmoveable.

And it was within this space that his enemies froze and he attacked, ripping them apart.

Gogo bit down, ripping a trio of monkeys to pieces. Then he swiped out his tail, wiping out another half dozen. Every moment came with the utmost carnage and violence.

Sylas rarely let Gogo fight on his own without direction, and often when he needed Gogoʼs power he would just Fuse. Though, he hadnʼt done that in a very long while.

But seeing the evolution of his abilities, Sylas could tell that Gogo had been studying the memories within his bloodline.

As his master, Sylas understood the best fighting tactics of the Basilisk Kings. They were commanders of the sky in their heyday, but their ability to fly went beyond just their telekinesis. It was instead in the powerful abilities of Kingʼs Bind and Kingʼs Shift.

In the distant past, these abilities had been invaluable to Sylas. He used them less often now, but only because there was no need to disturb Gogo during most of his battles these days.

Kingʼs Bind froze enemies in place, and Kingʼs Shift allowed Gogo to break the laws of causality and momentum, essentially changing an attack mid-swing without losing any momentum at all.

When those abilities were applied to the flight of a creature this large, it was devastating.

Even with wings, a creature as large as Gogo should have had very poor agility and it should have taken a very long time to gear up to his full speed.

But watching Gogo fight, one would have thought that he was actually the little Ruby Ouroboros attached to Sylasʼ ear right now.

He stopped and started, dodged and jerked, slashed and cut with the fluidity of an ambidextrous swallow.

By now, Gogo was well over a hundred meters long, but one would have thought his size was a hundredth of that. And when his speed alone wasnʼt enough, heʼd use Kingʼs Shield to stifle enemies and then pierce his tail right through it and their bodies.

Sylas didnʼt know when Kingʼs Shield had become a defensive ability capable of polarized defense like that, but it had killed more golden monkeys than he cared to count at this point.

The ability to attack and defend at the same time, to raise a shield and attack right through it while your enemy could not… that was devastating.

But that didnʼt seem to be a natural form of Kingʼs Shield at all, that was instead a mutation Gogo had formed himself.

All of the Basilisk Kingʼs Abilities were formed with their Will as a basis. Because of that, they were an existence with the most variability between their species as how they battled was highly dependent on their form of Pride.

It seemed that this shifty, clever, and tactical form of battle was something that Gogo had picked up after watching Sylas fight for so long, and Sylas had to say that it was effective.

No one ever expected a creature of this size and power to fight with such well-thought-out tactics. Gogo could already battle those far above his strength level, but now… It was even more exaggerated.

These were all things that Sylas knew, but it was almost like they didnʼt come to the foreground until he was forced to sit by and watch as Gogo fought.

However, the numbers of the golden monkeys were starting to become too much. There was only so much that they could fight at once. And, as clever as Gogoʼs battle style was, Sylas realized something he had actually missed at that moment.

ʼThereʼs so much pressure on his Will…ʼ

Gogoʼs Will was enormous, but it was draining much faster than it should have. The world was putting more pressure on his companion than it did even on him, pressuring him to the point he had to expend ten times as much energy just for the same result.

The world… did not like Basilisk Kings soaring through the skies.

However, Sylas could tell that Gogo was still not showing everything he could do. After seeing Sylas holding back his own strength, Gogo realized that he should do the same.

Even his horns were not there.

And yet, despite this, Gogo, a little E-tier, was rampaging through C-tier Demi-Gods as though mowing grass.

ʼThis canʼt continue.ʼ Sylas thought.

The golden monkeys would just keep coming and eventually they would be overwhelmed. If things went far enough, depending on whose side these monkeys were on, the choice in this Split Realm would be forced upon them.

Sylasʼ eyes narrowed.

The question was, did he want this to continue, or did he want to pivot and take a different approach?

Usually, in a Split Realm, you needed to follow a storyline, to find the pressure points and press them, until you got the ultimate result you wanted.

But there was another way to do Split Realms as well, and that was with overwhelming power.

If he had just had the strength to go and kill Aki right from the start of the Mountains of Giza Split Realm, it wouldnʼt have made a difference whether he did the other things or not.

A Split Realm wasnʼt a game, it was a reflection of history. And in the real world, if you had enough power, you didnʼt need to follow the rules either.

Sylasʼ gaze shifted up until he laid eyes on the palace at the top of the city, perched on the highest of the branches.
