Reincarnated as an Energy with a System

Chapter 1826: A Day of Research

Ning really only had work to do when Larissa had work to do, so while she took the day off, he did as well. The whole previous day had been long and arduous, so he wasn’t in a hurry to go out and get his powers tested.

Besides, he needed to do some further investigation on this matter before he decided just how strong he was.

That was not to say he did nothing at all. He teleported to the hospital to give the old man in a coma a burst of healing. While it didn’t wake him up immediately, according to the system, it wouldn’t be more than a few days.

And he would also be waking up to no pain at all.

Ning didn’t really need sleep, but he still liked it when he could. The bed wasn’t the softest he had ever slept on, but it did enough. It was better than the bed back in Shara’s home world at least.

He wondered how she was doing, but it had been years since he had left her, so there was no point in worrying about her, really.

The next morning, he got up early and began investigating the superheroes in the city. It would have been a simple enough task to ask the system for all information, but he liked playing detective and tried to find the information himself.

That only made him waste three minutes in total, as information about the heroes was not just public but also trending information. The internet was full of it.

From what Ning could tell, the tech of this world was still in its early phases compared to the Earth he was on before he died. He had been to many places that had technologies since then, but this truly was the first one that he could say was similar in terms of technology, or at least the vein of technology that had been developed.

’Well, there was that one world that had been taken over by zombies. They had cars, didn’t they?’ he thought to himself before dismissing those thoughts. He hated zombies, and just like in that world, he wouldn’t mind obliterating each one he came upon that was infested with them.

The poorly made website on his screen with flashing images drew his attention, and Ning began reading the descriptions about the heroes. From what he could see, there were two different lists.

One was a ranking list of all heroes, and the other a list of heroes based on each country.

New Limaro City was a massive city with eight different zones, taking one hour to get from one end to another by car. It was also one of the cities with the stronger heroes.

And yet, the strongest hero in this city, Balefrost, was only the second strongest inside this country of Conjora and ranked fifth overall among all the countries.

The strongest in all the countries was a man by the name of Void, given the name because of his appearance—he was fully clad in darkness wherever he appeared, defeating any enemy he faced.

He came from Sisania to the east.

As for the strongest inside Conjora, it was ’The Ruler,’ who was also the second strongest in the whole world.

As Ning researched, he quickly realized that the ranking for New Limaro City itself didn’t matter as much as he had thought. Waveshot, who was twenty-second overall, would barely make it into the top one hundred in the entire country of Conjora and would not even be ranked overall.

”And here I thought I had done something surprising,” he said softly with a sigh. He had asked for all information regarding Valen Jassens when he shapeshifted into him, but because the man had been a depressed alcoholic who barely cared about the world for the past five years, Ning barely got much of the current goings-on from his memories.

Ning still needed to know how much strength was acceptable for a superhero to be decently high in the rankings, but the more he searched, the more convoluted the system seemed.

”It’s based on public perception?” he thought with a weird expression. ”So nothing about the strength itself?”

And here he had truly thought it would’ve been strength. Strength was surely a part of it, but not a direct part from the looks of it. After some thought, he decided to wing his upcoming test that he had registered for.

Once Ning was done, he was ready to move away from the computer, but after a thought, he got back onto it, searching for Tritus.

The Constellation of this world had hidden itself well enough that Ning hadn’t the faintest clue where to even begin looking for it. Thankfully, it left victims behind after attacking them.

There were many cases of people being in comas all over the world.

Ning searched up Tritus, and it quickly came up with a few thousand search results. The thing was clearly not attempting to hide itself, so most people already knew about it.

The latest victim had been from a city in Bronveria, a country northeast of Conjora. Ning tried to see if there was a pattern there, but he couldn’t find one.

Frustrated, Ning knew that all he could do was wait.

He lay back on his bed, thinking back to the question Larissa had asked him the other day. Was he going to give up on being a detective to become a superhero?

He had quite liked working as a detective. Solving mysteries always gave him a rush, which was hard to get a lot of the time when the system answered all questions without hiding anything from him.

Sadly, he understood that the man who was good at being a detective was Valen Jassens. He had the man’s memories, but not his talents. He wasn’t Valen Jassens.

As such, he wondered if it would be wise to step away from detective work.

”Although, it would be really great if I could do both of those together.”
